Not sure why I decided to go searching for this video today. I just turned 28 and I saw it the first time when I was 15. Bought a Torpedo 40 shortly after. Longboarding became such a major part of my life, skating almost every day up until about 2019 after I graduated college. Most of my friends had given up skating and I started working in an office. I teared up a bit watching this video. Brought back so many fond memories of skating with friends, the lone late night skate seshs, the feeling of the wind hitting my face and the sound of the wheels on asphalt while bombing a hill… the feeling of freedom in your youth.
I’m rambling in the comments here, but this video has me feeling nostalgic.

Yo man you still got that torpedo around someplace? Just randomly ran I to your comment as I was shipping out some of the new surfskate split angle risers. Basically they make any of the old decks from back in the day that have OS trucks about 100x as fun. If I'm lucky I may squeeze a session in before this snow gets us tomorrow back east.
If you need some motivation to get back out there, these risers will make it worth your while... I just wish we made em sooner.
      Hope life is good!
      Scott

@@originalskateboards @JC-dc2ri This comment hit hard and sorry in advance for the block of text but I wanted to share something close to my heart.
I have a very similar story. I was 16 when I got my Torpedo 40 and I'm turning 30 this week. Original got me into longboarding and I will forever be grateful as it changed my life. I'm born, bred and based in Sydney right now but moved to Istanbul when I was 25 and took a board with me. I taught my cousin and his friends how to skate and shared the stoke (they still skate today having revisited them recently). Thinking about the 5am wake ups to meet up with the gang and carve down hills to beat the morning traffic to the coastline... I felt like I found the meaning of it all honestly (if you know what I mean). Don't want to think about what life would have been like without it. I still own my Torpedo 40, I'm actually looking at it right now in the corner of my study haha it's the reason I searched for this video again. Still have the original S8s and I remember changing out the wave cams about a decade ago but they probably need a re-lube (white lithium grease if I remember correctly :P). I just want to say, to Scott and the team (past and present), thank you. Really. Hope you're all well, healthy and wishing you all the best.
      An OG fan,
      Kemal

@@Durmushify thanks for the good word dude, pretty crazy how small things that hit us (a new deck, a video, whatever) at the right moment can have such a big impact. The exact same thing happened to me and that's what got this whole thing started. Small stuff sort of ripples outward sometimes.
I'm pretty healthy and actually having a lot of fun working on making things and trying to stay focused on avoiding my perfectionist nature in favor of hacking together parts pieces and ideas that work. I'm teaching myself to write patents and focusing on improving my modeling and generally happy, albeit frustrated that so far as I can tell it's very hard (impossible for me this far) to do the traveling I want to do and move those projects forward.
That's the challenge for all of us though I guess, so the work that needs to be done and get the time out in the world we need to be who we are.
I actually can't thank you (and everyone else) enough for supporting those projects over the years. I seriously wouldn't have gotten any of the stuff that DID get done and out done without that support and the support of all the crew who worked so hard on everything with me.
I do wish I'd stayed more true to some of the core pieces that I loved so much, but really the Lyme disease stuff hit the number of hours I have in the day and it's taken me a long time to figure out how to manage that in a workable (?) way. Unfortunately those extra hours tend to be where the fun stuff happens as anyone who is trying to do more with less time can attest.
Thanks for taking the time to say what's up and thanks for teaching so many people (creating your own ripples spreading outward). I think if we can all get the opportunity to do just a bit more of that everything will be a lot more fun.
      Cheers dude!

I remember a few years ago I had seen this video. I had picked up a board along with some friends and we did nothing but longboard, it was crazy. Waking up at 3 in the morning to go bomb main street hills without worrying about cars or traffic lights. Then suddenly both college and work came up, I didn't see them as much any more and I just kind of stopped riding. Couple days ago I was heading out to school and decided to run to the basement and grab my board, take her out for the day. I wasn't even riding major hills and yet I was getting HUGE rushes of adrenaline while riding. I had definitely missed it. Takes me back to going down your first hill and (hopefully) recovering from major speed wobbles.
Sadly, now that the snow has come to saty, I probably won't be able to go out for a while now. Definitely gunna get back into it. So many great memories.

I still yearn for the vibration and the warmth of my first skate on a cool dark morning. Its peace. Its adrenaline. Its serenity.
I'm getting back on the board soon, but had to rewatch all the sessions first. Go longboard 2009(this video), PR trip, Hawaii trip, and the loaded long trecks have restored the stoke. Get on the wood sons, before its too late

I found my comment from 14 years ago on this video because when I heard this song again recently I immediately remembered this video,
I'm about to turn 33 and literally watched someone learning to skate for the first time today and there still so much I want to get better at myself as I did try for a bit at skating but gave up on and off. Somehow ended up working at Vans for a few years which was an awesome side mission to be in a place that I got to meet many people who skated and at least have some vicarious experience through them lol. I remember watching "go skate day" videos all the time as a kid but finding this again is really leaving me with more hope rather than a melancholy feeling so thank you for keeping this up yall!

i think that putting the falls in the video makes it real, and lets people know that even when you are really good at something it might still go wrong sometimes, and dont quit if you fail, just keep on it until you dont fail. unlike other videos that only put the things they nail perfectly, it sometimes makes you think, "why do they never fall and i do", truth is they do fall, here's the proof on this video, just get on your board and keep doing it until you don't. keep shredding dudes.

There is few things in this world that make us feel free , better yet few times where we are FREE. The world is all a joke , everybody's always watching your every move to see if you "Qualify" or are "Good Enough" and longboarding is that one thing that makes us all free, no boss breathing down your neck telling you to do better Nothing. Just you , your board your brothers, and the open road going to who knows where like I cant be the only one here who in highschool would get the :crew together to have a sleepover , but not to sleep to wait till all the cars are off the road and at 2:00am go out and just cruise around the city .I am one of the lucky ones who gets to longboard for a living and get payed to do It , but I don't do it for the money its just a bonus. I do it because I know waking up every morning I had to try my hardest to get to where my life is now . just goes to show that if you try hard and never give up that anything is possible . never give up And fuck the world be free everybody

Don't get me wrong all those Grom vids posted by your new riders are legit, but it ain't the same like the core that was portrayed when your company first started out. Nevertheless I have to thank all of you at Original, I'll never forget unwrapping my Apex37 back in '10 and falling in love with skateboarding all over again.

      Hey Zo!
Well the short answer is life happened haha
A lot of times your group of friends changes, since Original has always been made up of friends I think thats the best analogy. Some people move way, some people get married (congrats Bish!), some people get unlucky and into drugs, and some people just want to go their own different direction.
The only thing I know is that you can only move forward. And thank god.
Otherwise we'd all be bored of our best times. Cheers for the good word.

Longboarding just forever gets better and better. You never lose your love for it and that, in my opinion, is the real magic behind it. Hiding behind the freedom and passion that just grabs you and runs through your hair, is the consistency. The foreverness.

Tell me about it. It would be more strange if I weren't still basically the same person doing basically the same stuff. It's a good day to skate and I've done it right if I did. Now if only I can get some of these ideas out of my head and into the pavement (13 years later) that will really be an achievement.
Stoked I'm not the only one still stoked on this video. Thanks for pinging me to watch it all over again hah!

Oh man... I first saw this video in December of 2009, the first year I started skateboarding. I've owned a cheap pintail board in the past, but now a ton of my friends longboard and I miss bombing hills and cruising around town with those dudes/chicks. Now I just might scoop one for beer runs to the corner store and to get around town on! Thank you Original Skateboards for inspiring me to longboard all those years ago! 😁 Y'all rock 10 years later!

Reliving my childhood... I remember discovering this video for the first time when I was 14 and desperately wanting to buy a longboard to do what these guys do. So I saved up my pay from my summer job working at the icecream shop, and bought myself a longboard. And the first time I used it I bombed down this hill, got mad speed wobbles so I bailed, and did a full roll on the pavement and had the worst road rash ever. Then I had to go the rest of the summer hiding it from my mum because if she found out I wasn’t wearing a helmet she would’ve taken the longboard off me hahaha. I’m now 23 and realising that the best times I had were when I would ride my longboard around. It’s still in my cupboard, maybe I need to whip it out again 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

Revisiting since the original watch in 2009 . I’m now 28 , have a daughter , a good family and a great job. I can afford all the longboards in this video and to travel to all these places . Maybe it’s time ? Haven’t talked to my longboard friends in over 14 + years we use to spend everyday after school bombing down the hills of our neighborhood while wearing our homemade slide slices from cutting boards we stole from our kitchen. “I hope you’re well as I am fine” never knew I was talking to my past self until today. I’m going to buy a longboard and hit them up. Let’s see what happens next !
