I'm 61 and got back into skateboarding at 50 after 35 years. Was never that good, but loved it...and love it to this day. Street skating through town with my two small boys...what a dream come true. I proficient on a board, but tricks apart from a few are not my forte. I intend to stand up slide before I die....I can speed check ok. Look at your bushings etc as your trucks seem very tippy and wobbly ....ankle and knee strength is really important as is control of weight distribution. Now to go scrape up my gloves! Best to you Sir in 2025!
That’s awesome and congrats on getting back to it. Really cool to skate with your boys-and an inspiration in so many ways. Yeah, I was off balance - oddly in my shoe 😆- my last kick, foot slid in the shoe and ate it. You’ll get the stand up slide much faster than you think. 🤘 Best to you as well in 2025! Scrape the gloves, but don’t scrape skin.
For actual advice keep looking in the direction you're trying to travel in. It will make it easier to bring the coleman slide back to center after passing 90 degrees. Also think about where your hand placement is during the slide. Experiment with moving it around. Your hand actually acts kind of like a rudder and helps direct where your weight is. The more directly behind you you place it, I find the more rotation you get. If you set it farther forward, like in front of your front truck, you rotate a less and are more controlled. That will be important once you start taking turns, or are trying to scrub speed going into a corner.

I'm 33 years old and getting back into longboarding. This video got me stoked. Thanks! Try dropping your hand a bit further from the board. It's better to fall on your butt doing colemans than flying forward. Shout out from the Philippines, Sir!
Thank you and glad it got you stoked. I do now place my hand farther back and drop on my butt-less frequently, but all fun. Welcome back and good luck on your returning sessions.
Cool man . I skated my longboard well into my late fifties . The biggest thing is not giving a shit what the neighbors think . Got into other stuff but after watching this I may pick it up again 🙂
Awesome, and thanks. Mostly doing this to stay active on my rest day from indoor/outdoor climbing. It’s not the speed that excites me, but learning a new skill in athletic ability as well as mobility.
This is very motivating to see! The truth is that for many years I have wanted to learn to skate, but traditional skateboarding did not attract my attention, I wanted a little more speed, and finally at 24 years old I am starting to learn everything about longboarding, sometimes I feel that I can't or won't be able to learn, but watching your videos really motivates me a lot, plus, you're my father's age haha, whatever, incredible progress! I hope to be able to progress in the same way, greetings from Colombia in South America!
Haha awesome! Thank you for the great comment. Never too late to learn new skills especially if it’s painfully fun. 😆 Like everything, it just takes time with commitment to practice-which I had to do myself. Honestly, I’ve only done maybe max 50 hours of actual training - over the year - so it’s not some crazy hours. Just enjoy learning about this sport while learning about yourself. Never stop having fun. Good luck. 🤙
Thank you for making this video, It gave me confidence to keep trying, falling and all. The " that's how yours supposed to do it" replay to the neighbour got me good.
Great video man. I remember it took me a while to learn the shutdown slide but once you get the hang of it, you lose that fear since you know how to spot. More confidence makes it easier to hit those hills.
Thank you and agree. Looking back, I wish I kept training up as opposed to only last 3 months, but maybe my excitement/progress now would not be the same. Thanks for the support and encouragement.

I am on this same journey right now. I was fortunate enough to go to an outlaw downhill event in Asheville recently and really see great skaters in action. It helped me see what I need to work on and how I may modify my board for the way I want to skate it. All of this is very different from the other skating I do, but I am hyped on it. Nice progress. Hype is always good to continue your journey. Good you’re wearing pads and moto jacket: got to keep yourself from injury. Good luck. Next video will be on foot breaking (sloppy & slow), but a start.
Bend your knees low, low, low and focus on making smooth and wide carves across the entire road. Be deliberate about the transition of all of your weight from toeside to heelside. You will feel the board start to shlub slides in your smooth, tight, carves. stay low.

Yes, I believe it is. Various wheel companies have specific “slide formulas” that are good for sliding and wear much better than street wheels. I’ve actually flat spotted a street wheel in 2 tries.
