    Love the project.
    I built a minimalist oak desk measured to fit my daughter for a graduation gift 10 years ago. It needed removeable the legs. A first for me. The legs were 2 sided tappers. A first for me. It also needed two draws. Another first for me. I built it with wood channels coated with beeswax, to allow the "wood on wood contact" to slide easily.
    This dest you are building looks like something for my office.
    I'm going to give it a go.

    I envy you guys for your almost effortless glue joints. Whenever I try to glue up something no matter how good I try to clean up squeezeout with water and scrapers it always looks ugly after clearcoating on some parts of my work. I hate it.
    This is a pretty table though! Cheers!

    • @shaunboydmadethis
      @shaunboydmadethis 5 лет назад +2

      Yeah, dealing with squeeze out can be a pain. I usually go with letting it sit for about 20-30 minutes then coming back with a dull chisel and cleaning it up with that. No water, and usually not much of a mess. Thanks for watching!

      Thanks Scott! Yeah I know, I fully intended to shoot attaching the top and get it in there, then just totally forgot as I was hustling to finish the edit, whoops! But to answer your question, the risers are just screwed to the cabinets from below, then the top is attached with brass tabs and threaded inserts to allow for seasonal movement. Nothing too fancy.

    Nice work as ever Shaun. Not sure how this colaberation thing is going to work out but I wish you both the best moving forward. I think maybe it would be helpful to those who are confused if you guys actually gave your adoring public a more detailed explanation of what we can expect moving forward??? Anyway you both have much to offer your subscribers but I would like to say to all those who have made slightly unflattering remarks about Shaun in the comments let me tell you as a professional cabinet maker of 40 years Chris is a decent, honest and entertaining guy who has, in my eyes a good eye for design but if it was my money I was spending on a piece of furniture I'd want Shaun to build it, IMHO the infinately better woodworker.

      Shaun, all I could teach you is how to fix mistakes because i've made more than you. I do have one plea, and yes I do appreciate you guys are in this to make some money. I will endure the toe curling plug in every video for some crap or other (sorry valued sponsor) but please tell me you won't suddenly start using random bits of kit so the company's that have given you this kit get their airtime. One thing that made me realise you were a bit different was when you mentioned you don't own a mitre saw. By all means use what is appropriate but not just because it's there, be faithful to your roots. Oh and please tell me we will still be seeing things like the "One cup of Coffee Table". Sorry one more plea, don't descend into the bearpit that thinks woodworking is about buying $10,000 of tools to make. . . . . . . . . . . .shop fixtures. Trust me the first time you guys post a video about your new rolling workbech router flip station with Carlos Fandango flip stop capability I will personally come over there and clip your ear. So please keep up with what you have both been doing very well being yourselves and presenting us with good come content.

      @shaunboydmadethis 5 лет назад

      @@Dickie2702 Really appreciate all your suggestions, and rest assured all of them are right in line with the way I have always planned to do this whole thing. I am a huge fan of making it work with what you have, and not needing every new tool that hits the market. In the same way a film is about the story and not the camera it was shot with, what we do is about what we are making, not the saw we are making it with.

    Awesome man! No strength test this time? I was curious about the strength of the top to the risers. And whether it was damage when the desk is moved around. But awesome stuff man!

      I know! I shot a strength test and totally forgot to put it into the video! I was editing down to the wire, so it totally slipped my mind. I think if the desk is going to be moved a significant distance, the top will have to be detached, just to be safe.

    How is the tabletop fastened to the spacers ontop of the cabinets?

    • @shaunboydmadethis
      @shaunboydmadethis 5 лет назад +5

      The top is actually attached with some brass tabs and threaded inserts. I meant to shoot that and get it into the edit, and totally forgot before we uploaded, whoops!

      Probably forgot adding the table top fasteners footage because Chris called you back on a hangout during the edit... lol

    Great video Keith. So how is the MFT table shaping up? I saw you did a follow up video but when I went to watch it had been deleted. Is it available on your Patreon channel?
