      Hey guys, they’re trying to sound like a Beatles Sgt Peppers Song but it may sound a bit off to you & that’s cool. I could tell immediately that Alex was torn but if you give them another listen (Surrender) I think you’ll like their sound & melodies a bit more. But maybe not & that’s ok too ✌🏻❤️ ps, very happy with your A & A- ratings!!

This is an album like Judas Priest's "Unleashed in the East" and Foghat's "Foghat Live," where the live album completely transcends the original tracks. Again, the live album had a massive cultural impact when it came out and this is impossible to convey by just a quick listen. Peace fellas!

  • @JoseChavez-rf4ul
    @JoseChavez-rf4ul 3 года назад +30

    OK, this one is so easy you guys!
    The ordeal Andy faces in listening to the disparate aspects of this song can be summed up in the title and lyrics themselves.
    Because this is a song about nightmares and paranoia, the two (bi-polar) halves of the song swirl in and out of each other from beginning to end. So it’s perfectly OK if it sounds a little schizophrenic.
    But it’s still ear candy through and through.
    Trust me, after a couple more listens, the 2 halves will snap together so perfectly.
    You’ll stop resisting and enjoy the ride. Just simply allow the chocolate and peanut butter to melt in your mind.

    • @christianman73
      @christianman73 3 года назад +3

      Exactly. New Wave and Punk could both be heard in their songs. Cheap Trick are a lyrically intelligent, quirky band with a sound that was lumped in with other '70s/80s rock bands, simply because CT had loud guitars, but especially in the '70s and early '80s, they were really closer to The Ramones than Arerosmith!

Despite us being only about 8 rows back on the floor, he took some incredible close-in shots, preserving that night forever. Somehow, even with being so close, I still didn't manage to snag one of Rick Nielsen's guitar picks he would throw into the crowd every half song or so. Cheap Trick is well worth getting into. Cheap Trick IMO are all about subverting the paradigm of "easy-listening" pop-rock cliches with humor, weirdness, and a touch of dark. So Dream Police is a fine example of them doing all of that packed into one short crazy song. That said, I confess it's not my favorite song by them - that would be I Want You To Want Me, closely followed by Surrender. And I repeat: you HAVE to find a video clip of them performing live - bandleader/lead guitarist/chief songwriter Rick Neilsen is an absolute trip to watch perform! (The whole band is visually funny too - Rick usually presents as punk throwback in his black/white checkerboard gear; Rob Zander and Tom Petersson look like standard pop-rock types, and Bun E. Carlos looks like he's a bored white-collar civil servant who dropped in from a TV sitcom to pound some fierce drums.)

There is a song by Cheap Trick that I couldn’t identify when I saw the movie because it’s very heavy on the metal. This was 1981, before Google. It’s called, “I must be dreaming”. It’s an ass-kicking song. Saw “Heavy Metal” 3 times the week it came out and still love the serious weirdness of it. And if you’re both South Park fans, the episode, “Major Boobage” is based on “Heavy Metal”.
