Thought is not limited to only repeating what one already knows, it ponders how things can be different or work to become more efficient. It turns the wheel into other shapes which can open up new dimensions which can encourage one to create their own way, straying from the beaten path. Thinking is also dreaming. Dreaming is inventing. Invention is the process of the manifestation being born into creation. If I could list it as a favorite hobby, thinking would be number One on my list. Philosophizing comes from thinking. Where would we be without that?
I had a similar thought. "Thinking can create". Like all things a balance is needed but what I think the video was emphasizing (and I'm likely wrong) is that when you're thinking you're placing yourself away from the present and the present is the place with information and the answers you may be seeking.
Thinking is an act, an act is a choice, a choice is to give up on one thing, for something else. When you put thinking on a pedestal, what happens to your senses? Your experience, the life you actually live? Thinking is something which will happen even when you are focusing on the moment, so why put it on a pedestal? Conscious thinking as you are talking about is only a small part of thinking your unconscious brain does, so basically, you are putting a fragment of a function your brain performs as the most important. See how this could be a huge stumbling block to "nirvana"? That's why in the video he quoted Buddha that a monk who is aware is close to nirvana, thinking puts your focus on ideas and symbols, not the physical world around you, or your experience of that world which you live in, which those symbols are only a shadow of. Just something to think about
I knew I wasn’t the only one who disagreed. This video seems to be based in a very fixed belief. Through my thoughts I’ve formed a lot of new things for myself and improved upon myself. I believe there’s power in awareness most definitely! But if I didn’t use conscious thought to create my reality… my reality would go to crap. And I’d sitting there fully aware of it.😂
The part about thinking is a tricky one. The first Jhana is declared by the Buddha as "with thinking and examining" and also has strong awareness/mindfulness. It is just that you are _aware of thoughts_ instead of "thinking them" or being "absorbed in them"
To the *incredible person* seeing this, I wish you all the best in life❤ don't over blame yourself, accept things and go forward. Don't let others define what “success” is for you. Get up, learn the skills needed and get after it, all the keys to a happy life is in your hands. Keep pushing.
this video really is about the dangers of overthinking,we think to much and feel too little ,every universal creation is born of thought ,but those thoughts came as a result of awareness and observation of the world around us, there must be a balance between thoughts and awareness,we must think ,but be open to new ideas.
I have been thinking about awareness a lot lately for my work. It's interesting how freedom and awareness are intertwined. It is true on many planes. I believe that in modern times, one major reason awareness makes us free is because being preoccupied with current cultural media narratives closes your mind to the truth of what is possible for you. It results in a type of learned helplessness.

The absence of thought reflects purity of awareness. I loved the video, when we let go of our thoughts we allow for possibility to enter our lives. -Much love from a growing RUclipsr
I love the point and video but thinking doesn’t stop. It can’t stop. The whole point of mediation and awareness is to know that your mind / thoughts will never stop. You simply have to let them come and go, be aware of them. Come to realize that your thoughts aren’t you. You’re just the person experiencing them. Same with emotions. That’s awareness.
Thought can be stopped. It is a learned skill that requires the determination to learn it. At first it seems like a glimpse or two is all that is possible, but with practice the glimpses turn into seconds and then into minutes. On average a 15 minute meditation usually consists of 10 minutes of focusing and refocusing and 5 minutes of non-thought, and is considered a very productive session. Ultimately, even a few seconds at a time is beneficial. When thought creeps back up, which always eventually will, just catch it in the act and refocus back to only hearing the hum in the room or some other background noise or sensations. A second or two here and there will eventually increase to 5 to 10 seconds at a time which is absolutely beneficial. Unfortunately we weren't taught that our brain is a receiving and transmitting transducer, so we are stuck having teach our brain how to get into the receiving mode - a seemingly impossible task after it's already been filled with junk, left to it's own devices and allowed to runamuck undisciplined in every way.... for decades! But it is not impossible. It's actually a natural state that once started will turn into being highly sought after and eventually become the brains desired default.
Freedom in Thought, this is just excellent! I appreciate the manner with which you have captured this. I loved “the question the mind cannot answer”, also that “when thinking stops awareness starts” and something that was especially important to me being that “the mind repeats the past”. The practicality offered by these is tremendous. Thank you for these videos, I cannot express how valuable they and the benefit they offer for anyone seeking to live well or to develop their Understanding. This video blew me away with how clearly the ideas were defined and expressed, Thank you.
This is very powerful and direct. you can meditate for weeks and months, you watching your meditation objects steps by steps, it is too hard works, you needs the right words to hit people.
I watched this video once, and I thought I understood it. I did… sort of, but upon the 2nd hearing… I just feel like it clicks. Although, it would be nearly impossible to be aware of everything… so this phenomenon is endless. We will think about everything one-by-one … and gain +1 Awareness each time. I enjoy all of your videos! Thank you
I think Awareness and Thinking should go hand in hand. Losing sight of thought makes someone stupid and makes that you can't comprehend what you see. So without thought there is no Awareness. I believe the idea of "letting go of thought" focuses on overthinking. The enlightened person will be aware of their surroundings as well as what happens inside them. They will recognise when they overthink and stop that process. They will let go of their thoughts and find new information inside of them. To find and comprehend new information they should use the information they already know. It is possible to create new ideas out of the things you learned already and besides that it is impossible to learn new, complicated things without using prior knowledge. My conclusion: You shouldn't really "Let go of thought", just of overthinking and you should learn to be aware of your inner self as well as your surroundings. I believe multitasking is part of being enlightened, because there is just so much to "keep in mind" or as I could better say: Be aware of.
I was aware at a point in my life and lost that 1 year ago, and I have been dealing with some kind of psychological crisis, trying to hang on things, not knowing.... anyways I got out of this I am no more in a "crisis" state. But I can't be aware, I can't come to understand what is awareness and I know I was aware at a point in my life, I was happy, beyond happy I was always blissful, and the mere thought of this is driving me crazy and makes me want to scream my lungs out right now, at this moment because I know I have been in a state of awareness most of my life, and that I can't find it back I can't get back there I feel f**king helpless and want to cry out everything I got, ironically I could fall back into this psychological crisis at the point I am but I don't because I am aware of this, just like at some point I couldn't conceive the possibility of being depressed (for myself) because- ah yeah about 10 seconds flew away since I wrote "because" I can't fu**ing remember. F*ck.
Man this really breaks it down and gives new insight. I’ve read a lot of self help/ spirituality books and never learned about the limitation of our thoughts.
It's funny that I find your videos so interesting, that for most of it, I watch them with my whole attention, thus, stopping thinking while I hear/read it (thanks captions). So I guess, your videos make me closer to nirvana
Humans tend to fear the unknown. When we don’t know something, we tend to assume the worst. The more aware we are, the more things are known. The more that we know, the less we fear. Truth will set you free.
I am having a burnout, resulting from anxiety. as I have a mental issue, I really feel I have self-worth. I can keep basic work & daily life activities, but I cant excel.
he is not saying that thinking is not necessary to grow. he is saying that you can not grow by only thinking without new informations. and to realize this you have to pause and stop thinking about the same question over and over without adding new information. and to get new information you have to be aware, you have to stop thinkig the old thougts. you have to be open to the current moment when it comes to personal growth or you have to observe your enviroment and learn more if it comes to for example science. thinking is good if you want to question yourself and find other answers within you, BUT if you get stuck maybe stopping thinking and being open for more information in your present moment will help you to get unstuck.
Just like how a computer has input, cpu and out put devices. For humans awareness is the input device. Once we are aware, we can collect new information, process in the form of thoughts(cpu) and deliver results. More aware we are, more info we can process and manifest in various ways and more productive we can become. So we cannot completely avoid thinking part of process, as this is what earns bread and butter for us. As a child, we are naturally have more awareness of our surroundings. But as we grow up, life happens and society forces us to develop strong ideas and we become rigid and less aware. One way to avoid this trap is to stop taking life very seriously and live a very simple life.
By simple, I mean living with authenticity. Try to remember when is the last time, we did something because we wanted to do it, not because society expects us to do it? I recommend you to go through works of Dr. Gabor mate, to learn more on authenticity.
@@SaiKiran1340 ooow I get It know.. that kind of simple. Then I'm doing terrific and tottaly nailing It. But thank you anyway. But can u tell me what the heck means awareness and mildfullness? Because english is my third language so I'm struggling to find meaning in this concepts by myself
What about creativity? Sure you can't think of anything new, but you can combine things in a way that makes them something new, and thus potentially solve your problem through thought?
Knowledge and wisdom is important, but also thinking is important. Thinking helps us connect the dots, combine multiple ideas to form a new one, realise the things that we haven't noticed in the past(like realising out mistakes and learning from it)... Thinking is not bad. But too much thinking is bad.
@@FreedominThought Ok. Lets say you want to make a film. But no studio will fund your movie, because they don't like your idea. You become stuck on this for months, and you can't think of a movie idea that's good enough to be bought by a studio. One night, you start combining ideas from movies you've seen before, and come up with a totally new film idea, that a studio will likely fund, because it's based on movies that have worked before. You have thought of a brand new movie idea, based on things you already knew (old films) and it solved your problem.
So at point A I don’t have the knowledge to make a movie that the studio will buy. At point B, I do. What happened within that time frame between point A and B that gave rise to these new thoughts (of combining old movies)? Something must’ve happened in that interval, because I was not doing it before.
This is exactly the kind of material Eastern Philosophy is filled with... whether it's Zen Buddhism or Advaita Vedanta, Budhha or Vasistha, Osho or Krishnamurti they all lead to the same awakening.
How it can be true? For example, we all know that educational process is constructed from learning some small parts, and going to bigger ones. A lot of inventions were possible when people thinking about a problem a lot, learning new areas, connect sometimes totally different areas together to achieve something really unpredictable, things that no one is knew before that. etc etc. Awareness = no thoughts. That's all.The only thing that we can achieve by meditation and self awareness I presume - is a realisation of a separations of "I" and chaotic thoughts that triggered by our brain. Am I wrong?
I don't think thinking only gives you answer to questions you already have an answer, I mean you can think (and write) about any problem you have, and the more you think it's likely you will see things you didn't see before, new perspectives that you didn't know existed, of course, this is assuming you are actually thinking and trying to solve the problem, and not just having thoughts, also depends on the type of problem, but imo thinking isn't just a way to navigate through our past experiences. I mean I have had problems, and I start writing about them, and sometimes I'll be surprised I got an answer, and if I knew it already then why did I ask the question?
I love your videos, do they exist in French? I mean, I would love that they're available also for non English speaking audience (I mean for French speaking people as I am), so I would be so glad to make the translation (spokenly for eg) for all non Eng speaking guys that speaks French only. Thanks and I would be so glad to word for you ! 🙂
Interesting. I curious how first principle or axiomatic thinking comes into play with this. Because with first principle thinking you can find out many things through thinking that you didn't know before. Would Buddha say that those are things then that you already knew? But that would means that the whole of physics and engineering is already known for people but they don't know how to access it?
You say thinking can not create anything new, but how would you call to create new connections between existing memories or concepts, leading to a better understanding or more awareness? Is this awareness, or is this thought? Now that i "think" about it, it might be "awareness", but what triggers it? Thought? Or No-Thought?
Question, if thoughts only gving us the same solution then how come we could answer the question that we dont know the answer is? For example, math, science etc
aren’t we also able to use thought to discover the subconscious? if we ask certain questions our intuition might point us to the type of thoughts that can be considered as answers to the prompted question
thank you for this great video, I have a follow up question. what is your opinion then when it comes to finding a solution to your problems? I know this a general question but when you use the statement "thought comes from memory" I get slightly confused since that implies that any solution I have to a problem is not apart of my thinking process and is only due to my observation of the world around me and my ability store that observation in my memory bank. I have not viewed the world in this novel manner, however it does make sense when I meditate on it. If so then would it not be a bit problematic for people since they might be 1) untrained in obersvering the world around them thus lacking the skill necesassry to be aware of their solution 2) be an in enviroment that does not allow them to be aware of the solutions to their problems. Keep in mind that those two factors can interact as well.
what about thinking about a maths problem that is completely new and discovering the solution or trying to play a piece of music and discovering a new way/ hack/ improvement in a method isn't this something new discovered through thought that is not coming from past experience?
what are your thoughts on Einstein? I ask because he used thought experiments almost alone to come up with many of his theories, in particular the theory of special relativity. it has since been proven to be factual with experiments and correct predictions, and this was done by simply thinking, and imagining consequences. He was also flawed in many ways, so close to nirvana would not be my guess. I genuinely want to know what your thoughts are. thank you for the great videos!
Okay, I think I can see the point of this video. But also may question is: are you sure this applies to everything? I mean we should not dispose of thinking from our lives. I believe that "awareness" and "unawareness" must be rather kept in balance than one to dominate over the other. If there were not for thinking, you couldn't have arrived at the idea that thinking is bad in the first place! Thinking is also a function of the mature brain. When we are kids the frontal cortex which is responsible for projecting past and future in our minds, analyse data and facts (observed by the "awareness" for example) and make a lot of other operations is not anatomically developed (that is why time seemed to past slower, because we observed all of it, it was harder for us to dive into planning and future projecting which now cost a lot of time). As we develop, so does our brain, and the thing that causes us frustration is just nature (I guess), and I think you need that. Without them I don't know how you could imagine theories as the one presented in the video. I say that "awareness" and "unawareness" are both instruments, put in place by nature. We think that what comes from our minds is unnatural. But how could nature create something outside of itself? I don't say that this is the truth. This is just my opinion.
“Alas! There comes the time when man will no longer give birth to any star. Alas! There comes the time of the most despicable man, who can no longer despise himself. Lo! I show you the Last Man. "What is love? What is creation? What is longing? What is a star?" -- so asks the Last Man, and blinks.” - Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra Toxic positivity and the “good vibes” culture is but a symptom of humanities greater threat: the age of the last man. People no longer search for meaning in their struggle, their hardships nor their suffering because of the so called enlightenment that modern Nihilism has wrought upon the common man and both their superiors and inferiors. They do not ask “what is a star?” For they have already been told! Whether by the lies of collective, outdated astrology or the material truths of scientific composition, and yet they know not what it means to them. For they have no reason to know, for to them, nothing truly matters. They look to the stars above...and all they can do is blink.

This is exactly the kind of material Eastern Philosophy is filled with... whether it's Zen Buddhism or Advaita Vedanta, Budhha or Vasistha, Osho or Krishnamurti they all lead to the same awakening.
I think one of your deepest videos so far. Any sources other than The Dhammapada for this video ?
Magnificent! 🌞
Do you do these videos alone? These are so beautiful
nice!
this is really helpful thank you for this wonderful video 。◕‿◕。
How it can be true? For example, we all know that educational process is constructed from learning some small parts, and going to bigger ones. A lot of inventions were possible when people thinking about a problem a lot, learning new areas, connect sometimes totally different areas together to achieve something really unpredictable, things that no one is knew before that. etc etc. Awareness = no thoughts. That's all.The only thing that we can achieve by meditation and self awareness I presume - is a realisation of a separations of "I" and chaotic thoughts that triggered by our brain. Am I wrong?
Good video 🙌🏻 we are gonna improve with time more and more🔥

I don't think thinking only gives you answer to questions you already have an answer, I mean you can think (and write) about any problem you have, and the more you think it's likely you will see things you didn't see before, new perspectives that you didn't know existed, of course, this is assuming you are actually thinking and trying to solve the problem, and not just having thoughts, also depends on the type of problem, but imo thinking isn't just a way to navigate through our past experiences. I mean I have had problems, and I start writing about them, and sometimes I'll be surprised I got an answer, and if I knew it already then why did I ask the question?
Great video...👍👏
Think as much as you can act.
So thinking is processing that which you already know and awareness is coming to know more?
I love your videos, do they exist in French? I mean, I would love that they're available also for non English speaking audience (I mean for French speaking people as I am), so I would be so glad to make the translation (spokenly for eg) for all non Eng speaking guys that speaks French only. Thanks and I would be so glad to word for you ! 🙂
Wrong thoughts can be new but not always and that creates anxiety, when this happens be aware that its all cinematics
Im just being stupid sry
Can you be aware around something that is not true? can I see something as it is if someone is lying to me? Can I be aware around an illusion?
Interesting.
I curious how first principle or axiomatic thinking comes into play with this. Because with first principle thinking you can find out many things through thinking that you didn't know before. Would Buddha say that those are things then that you already knew? But that would means that the whole of physics and engineering is already known for people but they don't know how to access it?
Veryyy nice
You say thinking can not create anything new, but how would you call to create new connections between existing memories or concepts, leading to a better understanding or more awareness? Is this awareness, or is this thought? Now that i "think" about it, it might be "awareness", but what triggers it? Thought? Or No-Thought?
In the video "Buddha - Your thoughts determine your future" you say: "You can combine memories to create something new. We call that imagination."
Question, if thoughts only gving us the same solution then how come we could answer the question that we dont know the answer is? For example, math, science etc
Because this video makes no sense
aren’t we also able to use thought to discover the subconscious?
if we ask certain questions our intuition might point us to the type of thoughts that can be considered as answers to the prompted question
Amazing video. Thanks
Cheers
thank you for this great video, I have a follow up question. what is your opinion then when it comes to finding a solution to your problems?
What about fantasy? If I purposely use imagination for entertainment I am not really aware of my surroundings, but is it better than thought?
So he said ignorance is bliss.

I'm convinced that almost everybody that watches this kind of videos is depressed.
What is a star?" -- so asks the Last Man, and blinks.” - Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra
Toxic positivity and the “good vibes” culture is but a symptom of humanities greater threat: the age of the last man.

My question is.. have you stopped thinking?
