    This is both a great recipe and video. However, I have a hack that makes making homemade eggnog fast and easy. There are 3 components: Vanilla ice cream, milk, spices. Take softened vanilla ice cream and blend it with milk, using a 2 to 1 ratio of ice cream to milk. Then add spices to taste. You could just add nutmeg and cinnamon, or go all out with allspice, ginger, and cloves along with the nutmeg and cinnamon. It's really up to your pallet. Now you can have eggnog year round made fairly cheap and easy.

    Looks great, one comment, I have seen many chefs recipes that use the egg whites too - at the end (with the heavy whipping cream) they whip the egg whites to a loose peak, and then stir (NOT FOLD) stir those beat egg whites into the mixture to add a bit more airyness...

    • @jbsouthernhands
      @jbsouthernhands  7 месяцев назад

      I like my eggnog on the thicker side and not so foaming which will happen if you add too much air. You also don’t want to over work your eggs that’s why I suggested folding the mixture. Thank you for your comment and watching the video, I love the feedback.

    Protip: If you also have a homemade fruit cake recipe, you can soak the fruit in the same rum you use for the egg nog. Just strain the fruit and save the fruit infused rum in a separate container until you are ready to make the egg nog, and you will have a more flavorful drink.

    I look forward to making it, looks yummy! You can make vaniilla with rum so can i suggest using a vanilla you make with the same type of rum you'll be using to spice it up with. Since its kind of like a cooked custard, i was wondering if you can put it in an ice cream maker to make egg nog ice cream? Thanks for the video!

    • @jbsouthernhands
      @jbsouthernhands  7 месяцев назад +1

    Here’s a hint - if you don’t have a thermometer you can still do this. As you heated gradually, give it a stir and watch how the liquid be behaves when you stop stirring. At 3:39 you can see that it continues to move around in a circle. At 3:52, you give it another stir and it only goes a short distance and stops rather suddenly. That’s your sign that it has reached the perfect temperature and you need to get it off the heat right away. (Any more and you will have scrambled eggs!)

    Just made this and it tastes delicious even lukewarm. However, I do not think that the sugar and vanilla were 1 tbsp. That is a lot of both and in the video it looks like only a tsp of each were used. I used only 1/2 tsp of the vanilla and 1 tsp of the sugar and that was enough. And I love vanilla!
    Also, just as an FYI liquid volume and dry volume are not the same. The liquid ingredients should have been measured differently.

    • @jbsouthernhands
      @jbsouthernhands  Год назад +1

      I used a tbsp of each, even used a measuring spoon in the video but it’s perfectly fine to tweak the recipe
      It’s easier for me to measure things in cups and tbsps. It’s the same volume.
      Thank you for watching
