did you know that Barbra specifically requested to sing this song live during filming so that she could properly caption the emotion? what a pro. what a sensational performer.
She recorded only the first part live. The chorus (for some strange reason) was taken from the previously recorded album "My name is Barbra" (1965). Compare the two chorus versions. They are identical, only that a richer orchestration was added in for the movie.
Still one of the greatest endings of a musical. I cried my eyes out the first time I watched it and everytime I see it I get the chills. What an amazing performer is Miss Barbra. A true icon.
As the critics all agreed, "Streisand gave the performance of a lifetime." Music aside, which was fantastic, it was a great dramatic, comedic performance. Brava Barbra.
That exquisite moment alone won her the Oscar. An actress using the song to express her pain and loss. Her vulnerability was connected to something very real. You feel it with her, as her voice soars. No one recreating the role could ever match that. A truly iconic film moment!
I used to sing this song at the top of my voice when I was 14 years old, Barbra you are incredible love you I used to think you were my mother when I was young, I was adopted when I was 9 days old, I wished you were my mom . I was Bab's age when I first saw this exquisite show. My boyfriend of 3 years had just broken up with me so I decided to go to a movie. Funny Girl. That would boost my spirits, right? Oh, my, gawd, after this song, I couldn't even walk out of the theater. They swept the puddle that used to be me off the floor and I would never be the same.
There's something I particularly like about the way this scene is shot. Her dress is relatively simple and dark black, such that we can almost only see her head and her hands. There is no costume to this. It's just her. As she has grown as a star, she no longer needs to perform a character, but rather, showing the depths of her true self makes for her greatest performance of all.

Breathtaking moment
I am crying as I type this, Babs singing this song catapults me back to when I was TRULY in love! I'll never love like that again but when STREISAND belts out THIS SONG, I'm back in love again. Thank you, Barbra, thank you~
Nobody does it like Babs!! She's absolutely beautiful & her voice (as ALWAYS) is SIMPLY stunning!!! My mom who passed away few years ago LOVED her movies & she took me to see ALL of them!! Love you Barbra !!❤
Brilliant. What a voice 😊 your fabulous. You go girl 2024 . Love you Barbara xx
there are no words for how great her performance is here
Something about this performance just breaks my heart in the best way possible and I watch it all the time just to feel it
First time I heard Streisand sing this song…. I got chills. What a voice.
I didn’t know what I was in for besides seeing her Hollywood debut
One of my all time favorite songs. So emotional. Loved these two movies of her doing Fanny Brice. GREAT!
No one compares to her with this song... totally mind-blowing!
I have been a fan since I was 10 years old; 56 years and have watched Funny girl at least 30 x!
Absolutely love you! ❤
Truly a voice from heaven. Nobody does it better.
❤this song gives me chills so many great memories of people I lost and love ❤
Her signature song; wonderful and flawless.
Such an amazing singer holy moly
Unmatched!!!!
Oh, my man I love him so
He'll never know
All my life is just despair
But I don't care
When he takes me in his arms
The world is bright, all right
What's the difference if I say
I'll go away
When I know I'll come back on my knees some day?
For whatever my man is
I am his forever more
It's cost me a lot
But there's one thing that I've got
It's my man
Cold and wet, tired you bet
But all that I soon forget
With my man
He's not much for looks
And no hero out of books
Is my man
Two or three girls has he
That he likes as well as me
But I love him!
Oh, my man I love him so
He'll never know
All my life is just despair
But I don't care
When he takes me in his arms
The world is bright, all right
What's the difference if I say
I'll go away
When I know I'll come back on my knees some day?
For what ever my man is
I am his forever more
Such amazing voice she has, the movie was so great but sad too 👍👍👍👍
This is just the best musical ever. I just sob.
WOW 👌👏
You've had to have felt real heartache to put THIS amount of emotions in a song.
I'm completely mesmerised by this amazing woman. She could sing the telephone directory and I'd still be enchanted with her unbelievable voice 😍 ✨️ ❤
WOW! your acting ability absolutely ...!!!and the voice that acts and feels. you are my favorite singer and you did capture the emotion!
I can never watch this movie or The Way We Were , without tissues 🤧
Oh, 😭, that movie was heartbreaking…
What a powerfully blessed voice
There's something I particularly like about the way this scene is shot. Her dress is relatively simple and dark black, such that we can almost only see her head and her hands. There is no costume to this. It's just her. As she has grown as a star, she no longer needs to perform a character, but rather, showing the depths of her true self makes for her greatest performance of all.
She is the queen ❤️❤️ pure natural talent
I love when a woman with a strong voice sings a song written for a man.
Babbs iconic Babbs. Beautiful & a blessed voice & yes a great actress
This authentic. I know those tears are real. She really had to pull that out of her soul. Have you ever tried to sing when you were crying? The best.
What a beautiful and very talented woman
I love this movie. I have since I was a kid. Barb is brilliant....the absolute love she had for "Nick", her bravery is exceptional. Get chicks, reckon there's many who have felt this.. I'm 41 lol like the classics but still sort of young ❤❤❤❤be strong heartbroken ladies
Incredible voice with honesty
