Breathtaking, devastating, superb, mind-blowing...unforgettable. She's a rare breed of the consummate, method actor with genius talent.
btw, I was convinced until this day it was in fact her singing in the movie, even though rationally I knew she couldn't possibly sound exactly like Piaf, but her lip syncing was so convincing, it fooled my brain LOL

Each role she approaches on its own terms and finds a new process each time. She demands spontaneity and being in the moment from herself and no two takes are identical... she abhors cookie cut out moments and demands to the right to be fresh in each new take. That is how she works. She makes this clear in many interviews. This is why actors adore her and love working with her; she automatically challenges them to be as authentic as she is. They up their game to match hers and give excellent performances as a result. I agree with your conclusions about the quality of Marion's work but not about ascribing Method acting to her. Her method is to have NO repeated method.

I would think he chooses particular people for his couch that he thinks will be a good match for providing entertaining interaction too. He makes it look all very effortless which is a testament to his command of his craft. It seems like just a group of people sitting down for a chat but I'd bet a lot of work goes into planning all of it.

No matter how much I watch Le Vie en Rose, her performance playing Edith Piaf always mesmerizes me. It's so strange and magical and wonderful.
