His demeanor is such a dichotomy of his film characters. On screen, he's loud, obnoxious, and intimidating. Of screen he's so soft spoken and calm. He almost sounds intimidated himself.
It’s not acting. People in that life are equal parts intimidating and caring. Everything they do seems random and chaotic, but is so intentional. I see it in the difference between Pesci, Ray Liotta & De Niro. Apart from acting, you can see it in their demeanor how close they are to that life. You can tell who’s been exposed to what. Ive had people that have a body count, tell me I should never raise my voice to women, “it shows weakness”. Those same people have domestically assaulted women, but have also never missed a birthday for me or anyone they know.
There's also the time Joe 'jokingly' referred to Chicago Outfit Mobster Frank Cullotta, who was working as a technical advisor on a film, as a rat, and got the scare of his life.
The character of Leo Getz in Lethal Weapon showed this guy's range perfectly. He is a genius. I don't think I have ever seen anyone give such flavor to their characters like Pesci. I bet you the script and original ideas were nowhere near what he did with all those characters. Absolute monster.
Joe does not like to be teased or kidded. On the set of ‘Casino’ Don Rickles did what Rickles does, he let the air out of everyone on set, including Scorsese and De Niro, who loved it. Pesce, however, did not like it at all and called Don all manner of foul names!
I like Joe Pesci but he likes to break balls and hates it when you give it back to him which is not a great quality to have. On the Casino set Frank Cullotta threatened him over something Joe said that went over the line, can't recall what it was.
Ik right. I love cigars and wish I could smoke them more conveniently when I go somewhere in public. But you pretty much can’t smoke cigars in any buildings besides some casinos. The lack of freedom is staggering now.
The Public Eye (1992) is a decent film, based loosely on a true story, and clearly Pesci's attempt to elevate his position from supporting to lead roles. But for some reason, the film has disappeared without a trace
Joe spent a long time making it big. I really didn't know about his singing career. He's definitely best in criminal films, and he was in one as Vinnie that did well. Amazingly, he pulled out of acting for the most part for the last decade or more. 2024 now.
Can't believe anyone paid him to record that album. It is so bad, it had to be a vanity project where he paid the studio bills. Like self-publishing? "Raging Bull" is your second film. Holy Cow!
opines, this appearance, only, reinforces, how much I like Mr. Pesci! When Dave reveals, "You know, we have the album, here", Mr. Pesci, instantly, replies, "Can I buy it?"
His partner in the comedy routine he was talking about was Frank Vincent, the guy that played Billy Batts in "Goodfellas". They were close friends at the time.
Frank Culotta ,a real gangster, on the set of the movie Casino as a consultant, tells a story on how he confronted Joe ,because he embarrassed him on set ,...Joe apologized....

Two movies I never get tired of watching Goodfellas and Casino.
the milk fed veal moments one of the best boss moments ever oozes confidence 🤣
Home alone
Goodfellas was great.....Casino was garbage...... believe me.....I lived the life
Even though Casino is 6 years long. Can relate. 😊❤
for me those two as well and scarface (even tho joe isn't in it)
"Hey Joe, you are terrible singer!" 😄
Joe: "Terrible how?"
😂
He's not here to amuse us? LOL 😊❤

😂

Yeah, I'm surprised. It means he's a really good actor. I'm surprised that I like him.
I never realized how soft spoken Joe is.
Little Joe
Same here, it surprised me, maybe given the characters he's played?

And, that was pretty much the end of Billy Batts.

Yes nobody is left now worth watching Leno Carson and letterman were the best of the best!
Okay, boomers
thanks for making their point.
Yeah you solidified their point. Now we are stuck with raw sewage late night shows

My Cousin Vinny! That's my favorite film of his. Thank you Joe Pesci 👏👏
2 youts 🤣🤣🤣
@@henryphilips6563 😀 That entire movie is so great.
My cousin Vinny actually should always be included in any list of "best movies of all time." "Casablanca", then "my cousin Vinny". 🎭📽️🎭

How does such an obviously sensitive and considerate man portray violent and absolutely amoral sociopaths so damned well?!
Apparently he grew up around real gangsters so he witnessed what they were like
It's called acting. What do you do for a living?
It’s his shadow side he gets to express it through his characters and not in real life

This video made me run right to the news…luckily he’s okay.

Joe Pesci is a truly versatile and gifted actor.
I'm glad all of his wounds from Home Alone and Home Alone 2 had healed by the time this interview rolled around.
Saw for kids.
Back in the good ol' days when you could smoke stogies on TV...
He doesn’t have to find a hiding spot, like YOU. Hohoho
Love that they had freedom to smoke
Lowkey it does cause cancer its not freedom just curtious of others i smoke a pod a day but this is simple
It was a better time when you could smoke a cigar on the set of Letterman, I miss the 90’s.
You could smoke cigs, cigars in high school in East TN. In the 70s.😊
If you were a student parents permission no joke.😊
Joe Pesci is one of the greatest ever ❤
How did you forget ... My Cousin Vinnie?!🤪😁
Don’t think he made that one yet.

The first time I saw Joe Pesci was on Home Alone. I thought he was a comedian. I had no idea of his other side.
The character of Leo Getz in Lethal Weapon showed this guy's range perfectly. He is a genius. I don't think I have ever seen anyone give such flavor to their characters like Pesci. I bet you the script and original ideas were nowhere near what he did with all those characters. Absolute monster.
I love Joe Pesci but his singing is awful. Sorry Joe!
I wonder if at the time Letterman knew these clips were going to become so classic.
Guy shoulda won the Oscar for The Irishman..
He was so good. I'm surprised too
Joe does not like to be teased or kidded. On the set of ‘Casino’ Don Rickles did what Rickles does, he let the air out of everyone on set, including Scorsese and De Niro, who loved it. Pesce, however, did not like it at all and called Don all manner of foul names!

thing with pesci is that he thought he was a real wise guy on set instead of an actor playing a part.
