The great actor Joe Pesci is interviewed by Tom Snyder during this rare 1998 appearance on The Late Late Show with Tom Snyder. Among many other things, Pesci talks about Mel Gibson, the Lethal Weapon movie, sparring with Roberto Duran, Frank Sinatra, and getting great movie part with Robert DeNiro and Martin Scorcese, while working in a restaurant in the Bronx. A great interview between two classy guys.
Joseph Pesci (b.1943) is an American actor and musician. He is known for portraying tough, volatile characters in a variety of genres and for his collaborations with Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese in the films Raging Bull (1980), Goodfellas (1990), Casino (1995), and The Irishman (2019).
Tom Snyder (1936 -2007) was an American television personality, news anchor, and radio personality best known for his late night talk shows Tomorrow, on the NBC television network in the 1970s and 1980s, and The Late Late Show, on the CBS Television Network in the 1990s. The Late Late Show with Tom Snyder aired live in the Eastern and Central Time Zones, and was simulcast to other time zones on radio to allow everyone a chance to call in.

I'm a Brit, so I never saw the likes of Tom Snyder or Dick Cavett doing their interviews back in the day, but I really enjoy watching them on RUclips. Both absolutely consummate interviewers, closest we got in Britain was Michael Parkinson, who also seemed to have a natural ability to engage a guest and get the best out of them.
Parkinson is the best comparison. I’m American but I’ve watched British television since I was a child.
Tom Snyder was a class act. Loved his infectious laugh
The respect each one had for the other is palpable. I also see how Snyder's thoughtful interviewing style was appealing to so many, including people like Pesci who normally didn't do chat shows. I miss seeing guys like Snyder on television. The shortened attention span of viewers, the quick pace of television offerings, and the increasingly dumbing down of America these days would make a Tom Snyder implausible were he to emerge today. I miss this sort of television -- thoughtful, sincere conversation without gimmicks or penchant for the salacious.
Tom was the best interviewer in his day.
I miss Snyder so damn much! Pesci is so elegant in real life, and calmly spoken that it is so hard to imagine him playing a role like Tommy in GoodFellas. Man, that role was scary as Hell!
I wanted this show to continue. Tom Snyder was therapy for my insomnia. RIP
He was a Godsend for us late nighters. It was like having a good friend over for quiet coffee late at night.✌
Same. I was in late high school and early college when this show ran. I rarely missed an episode. What an absolute treasure.
@@jkt4748 Oh, gosh is THAT right? Oh, DEAR! :( :(
I loved him and his interviewing style, not to mention his raucous laughter, SO MUCH! :) :)
1st time i saw Mr Pesci was on Home Alone as a kid. As I grew older I enjoyed his "heavier" roles & thoroughly enjoyed each & everyone. RIP Mr Snyder
God bless Joe’s dad, he sounds like an amazing man!
All interviewers should take notes… Tom Snyder is outstanding…. and Joe Pesci is a hell of a great actor. Much ❤️ to them both.
what a great interview only Tom can do this...
Tom a great host. Always well prepare. No small talk
A living & breathing portrait in the art of superb conversation. I’ve always liked Tom and his guests and the great stories that Tom always brought to life brilliantly.
Joe himself is brilliant at his craft and never pretentious and is always very humble about being a celebrity which makes him a fun and kind person to interview and listen to.
Jersey guy!!! Old school Italian tradition
Although a tough man in his own right, as a nonprofessional boxer, Joe Pesci showed a lot of courage stepping in a ring with Roberto "Manos de Piedra" Duran, one of the greatest in the sport, even if it was under a non-agression kind of pact. I bet Mr. Pesci learnt quite a few tricks from the "Hands of Stone (lucky him)." He deserves respect for that. Thank you for posting.
It is so nice to see that Joe Pesci is such a nice and very humble guy!
Tom was so good at late night TV. Great conversation. Funny. Intimate. These shows were like having friends over for coffee at 1:00 am. What happened to slow paced, interesting, intimate, conversation ? Quiet, dim light, late night, coffee, and Carson and Snyder. Those were great nights for television.
One of my favourite actor of all-time...a genuine guy and truly a legend. 👍
I think that Mr. Pesci sort of looks like another "Joe" in this particular video... former NY Yankees manager and now baseball executive Joe Torre. This is a superb interview. I respect both gentlemen.
Joe's a good sport! He played the underdog in this where other times that man kicked ass. That's a range of roles I'll respect to my last breath. All the best, sir. And to Tom too. Life in these days is incomplete without you. I always search for morals; and I find them.
He was underused as a comedian because he was very funny.
holy hell you come up with all these rare gems, thanks!
Your welcome/My pleasure!
Thanks for the rare gem! What a great Sinatra story at the end. Lol
What a treat. Too bad we rarely see such conversations these days.
“When fans see you on the street, how do they react to the characters you play?”
“It depends on the movie they saw last, and I can usually tell by the way they approach me”
Now that’s the sign of a talented actor!
Thomas James Snyder (May 12, 1936 - July 29, 2007) was an American television personality, news anchor, and radio personality best known for his late night talk shows Tomorrow, on NBC in the 1970s and 1980s, and The Late Late Show, on CBS in the 1990s.[1] Snyder was also the pioneer anchor of the prime time NBC News Update, in the 1970s and early 1980s, which was a one-minute capsule of news updates.
thank you so much for sharing this...Mr. Pesci seems like such an authentic man. Also, you can see that the set-up is like an actual 1-1 interview (as opposed to the current late night talk shows)...
Thank you for watching. The host Tom Snyder was one of the best at his profession & with Pesci they had great chemistry together.
we need talk show host like tom back!
I know some people have ripped Tom Snyder for interrupting guests, but I think he's a fantastic interviewer with a soothing cadence. Didnt discover him until some years ago, but can't get enough of his interviews on RUclips.
Joe's interviews are gold
The more I see Tom Snyder the more I see what a great interviewer and fun interviewer he was. I saw in a couple of places Johnny Carson thought he had no talent and once went up to his table and let him gave it. Snyder was in shock. Must have beev insecurity. Johnny was great in his venue and Tom in his. Tom was really great to watch.
Yes he was one of the best at what he did and gets overlooked over Carson, Letterman and others. Snyder was sincere and a real as they come.
@@advids5572 He wasn't overlioked by Letterman for sire because World Wide Pants which was owned by Letterman hired Tom for 5 years. I heard Dave and Conan praise him. There is no way Johnny was right . His insecurity told him how grwat Ton was. Thanks for putting these up. It's reallt a treasure to keep enjoying him.
Overlooked by the viewers not Letterman & Carson.
That Sinatra story is crazy. People you think would have never crossed paths. Pesci, Pacino & Sinatra...3 of the greatest Italian artists ever.
Joe was the man-Great Italian
well, _that_ was the fastest 24 minutes!
I loved Brad Pitt in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, but I think Pesci should have won an Oscar from his performance in The Irishman.
Yeah, I know its 'tough guy' Joe Pesci but at 16:26 have you ever seen a sweeter more glorious smile.
EXCELLENT INTERVIEW- ITS SAD THAT TOM SNYDER IS NOT AROUND ANYMORE- I ALWAYS LOVED HIM
Yes he was one of the best ever.
Tom Snyder RIP. Miss Old TS. Thanks Tom.
TV Gold
Only the second interview available of Pesci on RUclips, the other one being on Letterman where he's smoking a cigar. Thanks uploader!

@@advids5572 Brilliant! Appreciate it man.
Joe pesci another great legend
Right after this promotion for Lethal Weapon 4 in July of 1998, Joe Pesci went into hiding for 8 and a half years and reappeared in December 2006 with a new movie called "The Good Shepherd."
Guess I shouldn't care what it would be like to meet Mr. Pesci as that will never happen BUT he seems like a great guy. Lots of talent and personable!
Yeah and he's a riot. A very funny guy.
Pesci has so much class!
EXCELLENT INTERVIEW 😎👍🏻👍🏻
Joe pesci seems like such a good person. Amazing actor
Great questions. It could go on another hour.
Tom was an exceptional interviewer. I'll never understand why Johnny Carson disliked him so much.
I never knew Johnny disliked him. That’s a shame.
I felt like the fly on the wall just listening to this great conversation. Another time period I missed out on
Solid interview
Joe is suffering from being above an beyond intelligent. He sees world in the most advanced way of human behavior, emotions, and thought process. The most advanced human being he is. Undisputed thinker, wisdom whisperer!
where is the film of pesci sparring with roberto duran? :) i'd love to see that
I think Mr. Pesci would be a great guy to go to dinner with.
Pure, class! Joe Pesci one of the great film actors. ever! Melb Australia
What suburb?
The Bobby D phone call story is amazing.
Television at its best!!!
They thought the news was crazy back then? Some things never change.
Hilarious. Sparring Duran, and he's still ALIVE!!!
Gone fishing it my favorite. I watch over and over.
Tom Snyder was GREAT!! Definitely, 1 of a kind............
Can't watch any Pesci interview without laughing my ass off. The guy is a pistol. A very funny guy.
He’s here to amuse you? He makes you laugh?
@@iacovoskritz4896 it's just the way he talks you know?
Joe pesci knew many heavy hitters. He never
Mention any names. True Street guy!
the big difference with this generation of actors is that their parents were working folks, who actually respected work and ethics (mostly) and that comes through much more than todays fakes.
Great interview
Okay I’m lit but is anyone else laughing because Joe looks like Mel in this vid..... 😭😭😭
I always liked Tom Snyder.
Love this!
Excellent interview.
if it wasnt for the title i would have thought this interview was from the 70´s
How many actors have you heard say they go to church and talk to our Lord? That blows my mind. My Cousin Vinny is his best movie in my opinion
Casino
@@hennagaijin100 he was funny in that
Joe is an icon...
Mr.Pesci is truly a class act. 👍🇺🇲
Magic
i like how cool and calm joe is compared to his movies lol
He’s the goat IMO greatest ever

"nice seein'ya tommy"
Joe Pesci is fantastic but Tom Snyder was great.
16:00 He's a funny guy.
At 0:01 it starts with the 'J' in Joe Pesci is panned left, and the right channel goes "-oe Pesci..."
Anyone see The Public Eye?
16:19 You think that's funny huh? Am I a clown? Do I amuse you?
You are funny Joe.
Hard to believe this soft spoken man has Nicky Santoro or Tommy Devito deep down inside of him.
He's also a good comedian. A very funny guy.
@@peternagy-im4be What do you mean I’m funny? Funny how?
@@sdot5389 the things you say you know?
@Collen Flarity it's just well you're a funny guy. You know?
The best Movie EVER!!! Easy Money
How many careers are thanks to deniro? Meryl streep, joe pesci, dicaprio...
Love Joe Pesci one of my favorite actors but it's too bad he didn't do anything else after 2000. Oh well the movie world was pretty much in quicksand for everything and everyone and it's still in quicksand.
Love ya Joe, but Bill Clinton lied about Monica. You can’t simply dismiss it with “who cares?” It IS a big deal, especially if you’re the president of the U.S. For many people, his integrity was damaged beyond repair. Other than that, I thought this interview was great.
He asked Joe what he watched on TV as a kid, and Joe was starting to answer and then he cut him off for the break...never got to hear the answer!!
Tom redirects that question again at: 10:24
Fonzy?
Wow, I don't understand how God was able to put a man that big in a body that small.
WOW !! THAT WAS AN "AWESOME INTERVIEW"❗
WHO DOESN'T LOVE ,
JOE PESCI...
I NEVER SAW PESCI DOING AN INTERVIEW❗
A HELLAVA AN ACTOR❗
"DRAMAS OR COMEDIES"❗
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
THANK YOU ❗
I GOTTA SUBSCRIBE❗😂
Thanks for watching.
👍
"...it's the strings that hurt.." !
It's always strange to hear a tobacco smoker lament using drugs. For decades smoking has killed 300-400 thousand people a year. Robert Palmer, RIP.
3RDTIMEAROUND XD
CNN had to retract a story? That can't be true? Bwwwhahahahaha!
Snyder is too hyper with his guest, Joe couldn't relax....
Snyder is as good as there ever was. This Joe Pesci interview is of the best done for both men. Great chemistry between them.
