Your Cherokee is AWESOME!!!! I'm currently working on one at my shop. Doing valve cover gasket, coolant overflow bottle, oil pressure switch, both diff services, steering box and oil pan gasket. I had a 2001 Cherokee when I first got out of prison. I loved it and I miss it. This video made me miss it even more. I'm definitely getting one. Thank you for the inspiration.

Good golly! Not sure I can say much more other than looking at you getting it finished & safe enough to actually enjoy everything crammed under the eventual hood. Love the 4l XJ, & the I6. One my daily '00 XJ has 205k on it & looking at my short term & long term options. Woukd love a turbo or even just a fresh build with more cam & a stroker, but a turbo XJ would be sweet.

I’ve always loved and wanted an xj and it just so happened I found one that was mechanically perfect only cosmetic issues, dude originally wanted a grand for it, and he removed the listing from facebook because people were lowballing him bad, a couple weeks went by and when I had a decent amount of money I messaged him and offered him 1,600 for it if he put the wipers and headlights back on. Runs perfect only replaced the brakes system and sound system. And chopped the exhaust off

    Regarding your hood issue...
Figure out the volume of your intake piping, then make rectangular or oval intake piping of the same volume.
This will lower the clearance needed for your hood.
Next option would be to cut/reweld your intake plenum, to lower your intake piping mount....but welding on the cast intake could get hairy.

I was warned against a turbo for my 4.0. Was told it wasn't designed for that much pressure. Anyway, I've decided to supercharge it. LoL. I've got a new Melon torque cam, new lifters and springs, double roller timing chain and gears, 12 port Bosch injectors, Bank's Header's w/duel exhaust, drilled and slotted disc brakes, new shocks and more.. New aluminum radiator.. I love this project.

I'm in the process of installing a 4.0L out of a 1992 XJ into my 1983 CJ5. Currently putting the stainless steel fuel lines from the donor vehicle into my Jeep, handling some issues w/my fuel tank, and fabricating the (in tank) fuel pump/fuel sending unit. Definitely not going to turbo, or stroker it, just keeping it stock. Debating about trying to fabricate some type of mount for the 1994 Wrangler air filter/air intake box I have (for sure, not the most user-friendly shape) or see if I can find something a little easier to use from a pick-pull salvage yard.

Yep I’m about to say it I did that 6.0 LS swap and now when I’m rolling down the street with my 40 inch tires I want to pass somebody and I step on that skinny pedal. I got a grin ear to ear.

Love to drop a straight 6 in my 2010 JK Rubicon, 3.8 ok, but I wish they modernized and kept the 4.0 in the JK/U line. FCA Could easily get 275/300 and 15/20 MPG outta that motor with simple upgrades, compression increase, etc which would be more than fine for me. The 3.6 is a piece of plastic shit, what I call an example of a “disposable” motor, not meant to go beyond a 10 year lifespan whether driven or not, a prime example of “planned obsolescence” At its best.

Put everything in back or atleast the radiator and fan. So you have room for the other shat acan put the sway bar on. And u can put the turbo on the otherside so u can close the hood. The piping looks really rough. Nobody cares about the welds when it looks like a middle school kid piped it. Why spend all that money just to do it quick and simple. Tuck everything off somewhere like a real car you buy new not lia slapped together high-school kid .
