He was at his most serious as Frank Bullitt. Only twice did Frank let the veil drop, when the nurse brought him a sandwich and when he met his girlfriend at her job and tried to help her with figures from a book. Remembering Steve McQueen born on March 24, 1930. He was an American actor. His antihero persona, emphasized during the height of the counterculture of the 1960's, made him a top box-office draw for his films of the late 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. He was nicknamed the "King of Cool" and used the alias Harvey Mushman in motor races. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_McQueen

He was in a lot of ensemble films: Great Escape, Magnificent 7, Towering Inferno. I prefer the others: Thomas Crown, Cincinnati Kid, Bullitt.

If you haven't seen the movie The Hell With Heroes starring this icon actor then your missing his best acting ever. And that's the bottom line cause Stone Cold said so (from 976-CREOLEMAN)!

"The Great Escape is perhaps one of the best war epic war films of all time." Sorry, but it's not even close. It's a great flick, but it's not in the same class as Paths of Glory, Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, Stalag 17, The Longest Day, Enemy at the Gates, Glory, Go Tell the Spartans, etc... My top favorite McQueen movies are Papillon, The Sand Pebbles and The Getaway (not in any particular order). I also liked his last film The Hunter.

Two lesser-known movies with great Steve McQueen performances are The War Lover and Hell is for Heroes, both WW2 dramas. McQueen plays a similar misanthropic character in each film, but they are gripping performances.
