I'm a piano player, I know the music theory quite well and during the pandemic I decided to learn guitar by myself. It's easy to understand music theory on piano, but it's harder to implement it in practise. For guitar, it's the opposite. It's harder to understand the music theory, but once you learn it, it's like a superpower. It's a worthy investment of your time people. Learn it and learn it well.
I've been playing since age 9, 30 years now....makes me feel old. I was raised rock and classic country, reggae skate punk as a teen, jazz band in HS, performed live my whole life, know theory....I can't play the piano worth a damn lol. My mom played and her dad tuned pianos and gave pro lessons to some famous players but I just can't translate to the ivory as fast.
@antonkonyukhov2667 Patterns are more obscured on piano, at least for me. Example: You learned the phrygian dominant scale in one key and want to play it in every key on piano. On guitar, you just move the shapes. On piano, you need to notice it and apply different fingering for most other keys. You can't rely on muscle memory anymore
@@kamilchosta5526 Yes, it's reasonable for some cases. I think it's a matter of experience and habit, because for me it's easier to build a chord on the piano than on the guitar as all notes are visible and well structured. But I suppose, if you are more comfortable with guitar -- this instrument suits you better
I'm not that familiar with R&B guitar, just whatever I picked up from Hendrix songs/lessons and a teenie tiny bit of jazz, so this was a pretty densely packed lesson for me. I've spent literally hours digesting it. It's what I've been looking for. You're like the StitchMethod of R&B/Neo-soul guitar lessons to his blues. He breaks down the music theory in a blues context exceptionally well the same way you are with these chords and embellishments. Thank you for this! You got another sub. Gonna spend the next week diving into your videos.
Great lesson. To be transparent with you I'm really new when it comes to chord playing/theory. I hardly know the basic A - G chords lol. I do understand others may be a bit more experienced but as a beginner this is too advance for me. Any chance you have a Neo Soul tutorial with a shorter progression and easier chords? Thanks for your content, we really appreciate it!
Great video and lesson. I love the simple way you taught the music theory. If only my college professors made it that simple when I was in school lol. Very easy to follow and straightforward. Maybe a little fast at certain points for beginners but there’s rewind so.... love your channel man! Keep putting out cool stuff like this.
Greetings, i am so glad i came across your work..it has really opened up my fret board...i have never heard of neo soul until months ago..and i am addicted ..your explainatons of options is , for me eady to relate..im trying all your entry level chord progressions..and my fingers are doing things i never thought i could do...im enjoying these lessons..thank you for your hard work and well broken down chord options and discriptions..its so much more than just the chord ..be well.....mahalo
I like your use use of spicy altered chords. I am learning a lot from your videos. having a working knowledge of theory allows me to understand what you are saying/doing. watching and hearing on a video is a better way for me to learn than just from a book or chord charts. thank you!
the cool thing about the 1st inversion triad at @7:45 is the root note one fret up on the 6th string. I like the idea of playing the M4 or the m2 with the xx1113 shape with the tonic in the bass
I think I just came up with a song. It will take me months for playing it fluently, though. Perhaps a couple of tendonitis therapy sessions as well. But it will be worth it :)
Good morning! As always, thank you for your shared videos. Even when I am away from my beloved guitar, the music being played kn the background is always beautiful. I havent finished this morning's video yet, but so you provide tabs for your students and viewers? If you ever need help putting them together, I would be more than willing to help put them in beautiful .PDF and .DOC formats in a pretty and easily legible file with a nice bow on top. Could also convert them to be read on tablets; iPad and Kindle. Could use a break from other things, and I'm sure that it would be a fun experience. Love - Jody & the Kids
Cool lesson but as someone on the newer end of learning guitar this was sort of hard for me to follow. If you had kept up with the chord diagrams throughout the lesson I think it would have been more clear to me. The video started to feel a little music theory heavy the further it went and I got lost.
How can i get this sound from my guitar? I got only guitar and interface and guitar rig, but it lacks for that kind of rnb sound (Its distorted too much or noisy, or just not clean)
Unfortunately I can’t hold half of these chords I’ve been trying finger exercises for months now and I’ve been tryna force myself to practice harder chords bc I like them but I’m just not smooth at transitioning and I don’t have much control of my pinky or ring finger yet but I’m also stuck in a rough spot bc the really beginner lessons are so boring I hate the chords and it’s not really the style of music I like I love neo soul indie folk bedroom pop but I struggle to make any songs are really even play half of the chords ;(
How do you get the notes to ring out with your pinky embellishments? I'm trying to pull-off which rings out okay, but then I can't get the rest. And thank you for your content!
So frustrating. It sounds amazing but this is nothing even near beginners. And I’ve been playing for over a year. Please. We need something for seriously beginning beginners. Not intermediate beginners.

Thanks so much
as a jazz saxophonist the first few notes you played at the start gave me a mini heart attack.
I hope in a good way 😅
@@TheBeardedGuitarist it reminded me of "the lick" lmaooo. Still sounded amazing though!
:)
BRo! You connected the dots in my head that I knew were there, but could not complete!!
Great to hear this!
Wow I'm speechless... All I can say I thank you.
Thank you I am a long time player and have most of this in my tool box. It’s just about stringing “no pun I intended” together
🙌
great lesson - and great beard too!

Wonderful!!!
Man, you're a wizard 🤴🤴🤴
the power of the beard
Very informative video.
Can you be sharing some midi files for these chords for practice?
I think I just came up with a song. It will take me months for playing it fluently, though. Perhaps a couple of tendonitis therapy sessions as well. But it will be worth it :)
😅😅
I like this a LOT :)
Thank you!
Awesome!!! What effects pedal are you using? Thank you
Bro how’s your tone so good
Thanks so much!
8:35
Those chord transitions were smoother than the beard oil you use.
I know right?!

Great! But I can't find the Tabs on Patreon...any idea? Thanks a lot!
I came here for the information, stayed here for the majestic beard :0
That makes you a wise man.
A bit fast, but enjoyed it.
Thanks for your comment
How do you do the “embellishments”? Do you have a video on that?
I do: ruclips.net/video/ksvs1S3R2AA/видео.html
And more on the channel in this playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLFCrVXrNh7iJIFzjSqrNUqkf2Oc6Z8CRL
What's scales can you play over the top?
Start with A min pentatonic

You’re most welcome 🤗
How can i get this sound from my guitar? I got only guitar and interface and guitar rig, but it lacks for that kind of rnb sound (Its distorted too much or noisy, or just not clean)
Can you show the chord images underneath everytime you change, even if you've showed it already it makes it alot easier to follow
In the more recent videos it’s already like that
Really nice video. But, practically I guess you need some pedal to get this kind of sound. What should I purchase to get that kind of effect?
This is what I use: ruclips.net/video/19AXlFmHH_s/видео.html

Me tryna learn thisnshi on acoustic.

Check out my course on Skillshare: there are lessons on that. Free trial skl.sh/3CjsSNv
i cant hit the chords (bar), any suggestions? other then practice because practicing is useless if my technique is wrong. cheers
Use the boney side of your first finger and lower your wrist. Make sure the bar is not too high
@@TheBeardedGuitarist worked cheers
I’m glad!
Good tutorial. Very fast for beginners though.
Thanks for your feedback
whats that strat?

Wonderful...many thanks New Sub.
To fast for me. Hard to catch
Sorry to hear that
why the chords are hard
Life is hard
Beginner?
„I‘ll show you an easy way to play Neosoul guitar“ starts with 1000 chords… 😂
Great video but not for beginners 🫣
This is definitely not for beginners.
lol most definitely not. I’m gonna have to come back in a month or 2.
Literally have no idea what you’re talking about yet people think I’m a good player 😅
Haha
It's funny you think I know music theory
If you don't, you can learn it for free on this channel.
Who in the hell disliked the vid
haha I was wondering that too

It is for beginners of Neo Soul, not for beginner guitarists
this isn't for beginners
Beginners of Neo Soul, not beginner guitarists
How tf is this for beginners?!
Beginners of this style, not beginner guitarists
i did not learn one thing
Off to the next video I guess 👌
im sure 70 percenet of your viewers would agree this video made me want to throw away my guitar
And I believe they wouldn’t agree
Lmfao def not beginner level
