Great video mate. Clear, concise and no nonsense. I shucked my first oyster around 10 years ago and haven't looked back since. We've got some amazing Scottish and Cornish oysters in my neck of the woods. Some lemon juice or hot sauce goes well with them, but they're still amazing on their own.

Nice job. Chesapeake Bay oysters are my favorite since they're smoother and more buttery than the northern colder water ones.

You should try the East Hampton Shucking tool, it's the safest and easiest way to open oysters. It keeps your hand away from the knife. You won't hurt yourself.

I usually have to chip the front up a bit to get an opening for me to open from the front method which now since learning the hinge method i only do bill method when hinge method fails me . Which I learned bill method from my Dad and Grandpa when I was roughly 7 yrs old which Grandpa was an oysterneer or oyster hunter , if that's what you call them .

Great video thank you - good clear sound for your excellent instructions. What is the best way to avoid little bits of shell in the oyster or to check/remove them. I try to wipe the shucking knife but sometimes there are still bits. Any tips much appreciated. Would rather not take out the oyster and wash it. Btw love your tip for the microwave!

🔹️ Used to live up on a lake within easy walking distance, a few hundred yards from a large oyster farm.. Freshest Oysters eaten straight after opening cannot be beaten ❗ Always added a few drops of Worcestershire sauce or Maggi Special Seasoning sauce to my oysters. I don't care for cooked oysters. I've always eaten them Au Naturel, the best & only way to truely enjoy these salty little delights❗

Is there any reason to go in the front as opposed to the hinge? If you love oysters, I recommend shucking them yourself. It's 10x satisfying.

    • @OysterNinjaPc

front and back is a huge debate. For me it all depends on what the oyster looks like and what knife I'm using.

@@OysterNinjaPc good to know, I personally thought the hinge method looked easiest, but shells don’t grow so evenly.

2 questions? Is it alive when you first cut it? Why isn't it cooked? Oh and before you make fun of me or call me stupid, just to let you know I was born and raised in the Appalachia Mountains of Eastern KY. I know absolutely NOTHING about catching and/or preparing seafood.
