- Our German, Greek and Italian political parties MERA25 launched their European Election campaign on Nakba Day, May 15, in Athens, at the event ‘European Nakba: How the EU is covering up the genocide’.
The event featured key speeches from Irish MEP Clare Daly, MeRA25 Greece leader Yanis Varoufakis, MeRA25 Greece candidate Faizal Zacharia El Masr, Jewish peace activist Iris Hefets and candidates of the MERA25 political parties in Germany (Karin De Rigo) and Italy (Elettra Stamboulis and Federico Dolce) were also present for the event.
DiEM25 was in attendance in Athens for the official launch of the European Elections campaign of MERA25 Germany, MERA25 Italy, and MeRA25 Greece. Ahead of the event, speakers gathered at Eleftheria Square at 19:00 local time, for a demonstration against the ongoing genocide of Palestinians by the Israeli regime.
May 15 served as a rallying cry for those who dream of an independent, peaceful, just, and sustainable Europe, where every citizen can lead a dignified life.
On June 9, at the EU elections, let's make our governments pay at the ballot box. Vote for us so that we can call them out and unmask their hypocrisy.

Plight of the Palestinians?
The Arabs imprisoned their brothers in refugee camps and gave them no citizenship or other civil rights. They use the poverty and anger of the so-called Palestinian Arabs as a means to wage terror against Israel. The Palestinians were only useful politically and militarily. These 700,000 refugees, who have now grown to tens of millions, could have long since been integrated into Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, etc. But the Arab leaders didn't want that and only created the nonsense under which both peoples ( Israel and Arabs) suffer.
The conflict could have been resolved elegantly as early as 1948, as the partition plan envisaged. But even after that, there were enough options that the Arabs themselves never accepted; they were even offered East Jerusalem as their capital twice. They have chosen suffering and blood, but the window of opportunity is closing. Soon there won't be much left. The Arab countries are starting to lose interest in this conflict - the EU does not have to worry about it.

Not really. There is no doubt that Varoufakis and MERA25 would betray the Palestinian masses, just as Syriza betrayed the Greek workers, if they had the opportunity to do so as a ruling party. Just as it was not possible to end the austerity dictates against Greece by appealing to Brussels and Berlin, it is not possible to stop the genocide in Gaza by appealing to the leading imperialist powers.

Yanis Varoufakis, did not go along with his party's stance when he was part of Syriza, that was the leader of the party's decision against Yanis' expressed wishes. Add to that the fact that the leader in question is now a nobody whereas Yanis is now an internationally known influential person of high renown. It would be extremely strange given his whistle blowing v global elites and his years of open discussions making crystal clear his positions if Yanis would ever capitulate to any outside force, however powerful. There would be riots if anyone messed with Yanis.
Secondly I don't see how you can claim that MERA25 is trying to appeal to imperialist powers, they are apparently standing firmly in stark opposition to them.
