- Straight Pool. Here we go again. Mike Sigel, 63, and Earl Strickland, 55, match up during The Living Legends Challenge. This time, Sigel had choice of which discipline to play, considering he could have chosen to play either 8-Ball, 9-Ball, 10-Ball, 14.1, Banks, or One-Pocket. Sigel, long in retirement, chose straight pool. Strickland was still competitive and was still a threat at any game. Both of these “living legends” are in the Hall of Fame and dominated pool in different eras, so this was to see who had something left in him for this challenge.
John Bender and Bill Hendrixson were the commentators.

I think the "son of a bitch" was directed at the game and not the referee, but yeah, that sounded really, really bad. At least I hope so. Like his head's so far into the game that he isn't aware of how rude he's being.
Yeah, wasn't directed at the "African - American", as they prefer to be called. Besides, Mike is Jewish, so I doubt one minority that has had issues in this country is gonna be brazen enough to insult another, on a recorded event.

I really miss these guys. I miss the table talk and sharking. It was part of the game. getting inside eachother's head. the new generation of players are amazing technical players that play like robots. Mike, Earl, Rodney Morris and all those great players from the early days are a lost era of fan based pool

I really like watching Earl play lately without all the theatrics, and he seems to be playing much better for it. It's more like the old Earl, just concentrating and executing, putting on a master's class. Good to see.
I really wanted to watch this but 5 minutes into it the commentators just drove me nuts. Not professional at all.

Guys you really need to get a better audio setup. At the very least turn down the gain and put a gate on the input to cut out the really low level sounds like lip smacking and whistling noses and heavy breathing, it’s so hard to watch this great content you guys capture.
And please, please don’t cut their mics for language! The video is advertised as “Living legends: MIC’ED UP!” And then you talk over them and cut their mics.

It's a privilege to be able to display your craft in front of the masses. But I just can't for the life of me understand how anyone can watch Mike play. His theatrics are an embarrassment to this fine sport. Yes, I get upset missing shots as well, but I sure as hell don't act like a buffoon when I do, and then turn around and demand praise from the crowd when I do make a shot.

The commentators were so baised towards mike making it seem like he had all the hard shots and efren was getting all the easy shots. What actually was going on is efren was controlling the cue ball right and giving himself good shots and mike was playing like trash and basically snookering himself every single shot and never shutting up

At 11:45, it looked to me like he put a touch of left spin on the cue ball which caused it to curve just slightly, but more importantly, it threw the 3 ball to the right just a hair... That's why he almost missed the shot. It doesn't take much to throw off a shot. It sounded like he thought the table wasn't level. I played it back a few times in slow motion. the throw is quite apparent.
At 1:31:48, because he's reaching, the back of his cue is coming up ever so slightly as he's hitting the cue ball with outside English. This caused the ball to swerve slightly to the right before it made contact with the 8 ball. This was a slight over-cut and the English threw the ball to the left. If he had used an extension, I think he would have made this shot easily. I'm learning so much from watching these legends. Though nearly God-like in their ability, it's nice to see they are still human! I wish we saw more of Captain Hook in regular competitions.

The comment from someone else is correct. Jim rempe commented on an old match and told viewers that it makes no sense people Mike does everything right handed except shoot pool. Mike was interviewed and had no explanation as to why he picked up a cue and "decided" to shoot left handed. Something along the lines of thinking it was better, but he picked up a cue when he was single digits, so I doubt he understood.

Why won't they ever show David Howard videos I think he was one of the greatest players in the world in his time. Should be a hall of fame for sure. Hell, he won the US open twice and runner up twice and 50 to 100 other world class titles. Don't get it.

Sigel has awful fundamentals. He lifts his head on every shot. And if it's hard shot he lifts his head even more. After watching svb and shaw and filler play, these guys look awful
The old school guys (snooker, as well) had eyes tendencies. "steering", jump up, big shoulder drops, etc. It was a more flamboyant time and hustling made them more arrogant and showmen-like. When the new talent came up around the 2000s, they had videos and training to actually shoot correctly. Back then you just had amazing talent. Now is about perseverance, training, technology. Same with guitar. So many dead on technically perfect players, but no showman.
