When i was a teenager, many moons ago, i used to love to sit on the rail in my local family billiards room and watch the older gentlemen play straight pool for hours on end. back then i could shoot so straight but i couldn't see a pattern to save my life, now i can't make more than three balls in a row but the patterns come to life before me, LOL Looking forward to this and thinking about my mis-spent youth. Thanks again Pat for all the streams you bring us. Tony C
There is nothing like playing a long set of straight pool in the morning at your local spot and there is nobody else there. The pool room smells so different in the morning for some reason.
john schmidt is a class act and a great straight pool player, but let's not get carried away. i am aware of his 600+ and all of his 400s, but nobody, including john himself, thinks he's ever been in the top five for any period of time, let alone the greatest ever. maybe crane or mosconi. from todays crowd there are better players throughout europe. i'd also put alex ahead of him, thorsten, corey deuel. the high runs in non-competitive atmospheres shows his ability, but far from makes him the best ever. i once watched shane in practice make over 500 balls with only two misses and he looked bored doing it. then he stepped up and lost 3 straight in one pocket to deuel in 45 minutes (you tube us open 2016)
@@steve-km3oo the weirdest thing about John Schdmit is that he excels more in competitive rotation and one pocket tournaments than he ever had in straight pool.
It's funny how John spent the whole match talking about how great Mika and Chris play, and how they are world class players, then they both missed ball after ball, and they each tried to give the match away to the other guy. John said you are lucky to get a 2nd shot, and they both had about 7 shots each.
2017 and Mika still just always seems irritated. I've seen him play in person twice and anytime he misses he gets so aggravated and fussy and I think it affects his game a lot
sorry but it's just not interesting to watch rotation players moving the cue ball all over the place just to run 14 and save one for a break shot....notice I did not say playing straight pool. This isn't straight pool - this is shoot until you miss

Wow John Schmidt along with Mark Wilson....excellent commentary!!
I really enjoyed the commentary from John Schmidt and Mark. They make a good duo.
Yes they do
This is the best announcing I've ever heard.
thanks, i love straight pool games like this.
What great commentary! Schmidt comes across as a class act.
Absolutely!
Terrific match, terrific commentary, all around terrific upload. Thanks! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
"oh god that was fatter than my ex-wife" LOL I love this guy
Laughed my ass of at that point
I think Mr 600 should do more commentary. He seems like a natural, plus who better to comment on 14.1?
This was the best commentary I've heard.
Two things: he's enthusiastic, and he stays focused on the action on the table. Two areas where many commentators are lacking.
John gets a chance to air out his one-liners! Pretty fun + learned some strategy I was unaware of.
John is the best 14.1 commentator in the business.
so relaxing to watch
The commentary is from the best 14.1 player ever as well

Great game
Mika is one of, if not the best straight pool player in the world. His stroke and pattern play is unmatched
Yeah, he's a gem. If he'd pick a game or two (straight and nine?), he might conquer the world (of pool).
Badly played match, but the commentary from Mark and John was great.

When you can call the last 3 balls when all 15 are still on the table it is pretty cool.
Wow
Johns comment @ 59:45 LMAO
If either one of these guys would have been playing Sigel or Rempe or Miz or Nick...they'd be home by now drinking.
cool
I'm always surprised when professionals don't seem to know how to use follow or stop shots. So many pros try to use draw for everything.
I like playing this- don’t love it. But watching is brutal. Not adrenaline producing. But l love pool. Love this game. Just saying.

Yes, he should avail himself of one of the sports psychologists who are becoming so popular lately.
the magician vs the iceman

Lol. Snob. Pool evolves, if he didn't deserve to be there, he wouldn't be there.
Mika grew up playing straight pool. He's acknowledged as being one of the top straight pool players in the world
What do you mean? Melling ran so many of these racks
Only way I could watch was by turning off the commentator...
damn no one asked
these guys shot like George Fels-
At exactly 50 minutes in Mika i kinda think he should have broke a hair softer so then the balls wouldn’t have gone back into the rack
They talk like Melling is a bum.
Melling's got to be the most underrated player around. He's by far my favourite to watch for sure.
they were hyping up melling the entire match
