Mike….you are a drain on everything and one around you. You’ve been blessed with an ability to play a “GAME” for a living and you haven’t stopped complaining about it since.
Thanks for the video. It seems everyone is pissed off that Mike won't shut up or that the announcers won't. I'm just happy to see these two play again.
These guys with their comments brought a tear to my eye. I love em both. I switched from your typical bar tables to diamonds and 4 months later I started getting the hang of em. So I completely understand all the things they are saying. Respect to these to legends and their comedic entertainment. This match was still quality and they could still crush most of us, if not all of us in pool. Great match
I’d rather watch these guys play and banter any day over watching 2 emotionless robots silently walk around a table for an hour…..these guys came from the GOOD days of pool. Those are long gone!
My favorite thing about Mike Sigal is the play by play he gives of his own game. If he and Earl are in their usual characters, the Mic should be big entertainment.
Jesus christ between the mouth breathing and the guy that sounds like he just woke up every time he talks i’d MUCH rather listen to Mike. And that says a lot.
Read most of the comments. I loved it all never laughed as much funny comments reminded me of my own senior center pool room. Fun to see the sharkiyng going on.thanks for up loading this “Classic to be”
Saw Earl walk in Taylor's Pool Hall in Richmond, Ky. around 30 years ago. My cousin was a well known 9 ball player in the community and surrounding areas. My cousin looked over at his Dad and asked about him. My Uncle replied, "He's one of the best." Well my cousin just had to ask Earl if he wanted to play a game which he did. Earl replied, "I'm going to go back here with these guys". Implying he was going to continue walking towards the back of the pool where they were. Would have loved to have seen them play. Something my cousin could have always remembered and who knows, learned that much more than he already knew to become an even greater player. 👍
For those of you in the back row: Earl's Resume speaks for itself! He has won the US open 5 times and he is the only Player to consecutively win the WPA World Nine-ball championship twice..player of the year multiple times and is ranked the 6th greatest player of all times. He has had a wonderful career. He has had more wins than losses. But like Buddy, age has a way of slowing one down. Regardless of his temper, all that will NEVER be taken away. Medically there is more going on with Earl than you know!
@@maurojr19851 he suffers from bi-polar disorder and a little OCD (as someone who suffers from mental illness it's not hard to see) and that's why he can seem volatile and self destructive at times. He doesnt mean to, hes a really nice guy it's just bi-polar disorder basically gives you 2 different personalities. Also it's the way earl was raised in pool, it was very cutthroat where he is from.
Mad respect for you these two legends. Even in their time, both were very eccentric and their eccentricity seems to have become more prevalent in old age 😂. But still major respect and a joy to see them still playing today. 🙏
C'mon people don't be piss off, this match is just for fun and entertaiment Siegel - talking and talking (with jokes) Strickland - wearing a fancy suit...
Love the fact I could hear Mike the Mouth talk like me and the boys at the local pool hall... makes this experience even more like a round of power league! Thanks for the upload and keep up the epic content 🤘
It is nice to watch old timers play. You also get to see the problems of being in a sport and getting older. These guys are not that old. Wait time they hit their 70s and see what the issues are. The fact is, even if you are not playing like you did when you were young, you get a lot of benefit playing pool in your golden years. If you think some pool players chatter too much, try listening to some chess players that never shut up and say irritating things while you try to move. Its just part of the game. When I play games I try to say nothing. Why let people know what you are thinking when you are doing things?
The first 19 min is two hall of famers looking more or less like rank amateurs...then Sigel finally seems to find 1st gear at the light. I was seriously starting to wonder if this match was worth continuing to watch just before that point. Mike was clowning around about having solids...then he stars whining about the rails being inaccurate, on a DIAMOND table. And then his break at 22:43...I thought he was going to start complaining that the cloth was inaccurate, too. The pockets look pretty agressively cut, but other than that, the Diamond is a FINE table. Game starting 22:44, Earl FINALLY shows up...now THAT looked like a pro going through a table, he classic Earl freight trained that one. Sigel's shot @ 1:25:57 is worth the whole match. Beautiful shot. Actually, he took a few chances on that 10 rack run...specifically to MAKE the ten rack run...he said as much in an interview I watched afterward. That was an AMAZING accomplishment....ESPECIALLY given the pressure that he must have been feeling when he was getting close. When Mike said he was going to go behind the three before he hit it to himself, I thought, yup, near sure way to get there. Even 'DON'T end up behind the three', to my subconscious, apparently gets interpreted as 'squat it behind the three'. Earl's "twenty years ago it would'a gone here" was funny...probably true, too. You talked about them forgetting their past errors. If you watch when Efren dogs a shot badly during a match, he almost always set that shot up after the match and shot it two or three times, I assume at least part of that was to leave the shot COMPLETED properly in his mind, rather than dogged. I've seen him do it many many times. Used to have fun picking the shot he would set up beforehand. One player I REALLY miss watching...but he's still killing it at one pocket...pro level wins still, against guys 40 years his junior. And some of his solutions...looked like WTH, then the ball was in and he was dead on line...so much fun to watch. Later they were talking about the table again. I think what they're saying is they play differently from the brunswicks, etc. and they do...they play truer on the cushions, and set up right, with the single piece slate, they are dead flat. I've got a Crown I, but I would have gotten a Diamond, if I could have found one cheap enough. The crown is an excellent table though, these guys would be very at home on my table.
the rubber is harder and there is less grip spin doesnt have as much effect and the ball does not sink in long or deep even on hard shots so there is less options and less variety and completely different game ... especially for these guys to adapt is asking a lot after millions of balls with different rubber on older tables ... they should mever have changed them imo
@@ohsoleohmio Not sure what you mean by effect, I assume you mean to English 'taking' off of the cushions. I have never tested that, so I can't comment as to the accuracy of that statement. But as for geometrical TRUENESS of banking, the Diamond cushions are far better. On my (or any I've played on) Brunswick, the cushions bank notably short..typically a tip of running English will pocket a ball at medium speeds. The Diamonds I have played on (several) banks from two diamonds cross side ON the appropriate 1st diamond across the table hit center ball, when rolling. Just my experience. IMHO, the table should bank accurately, geometry wise, I'm guessing that is what Diamond was aiming for, since they achieved it. I have never played on one, but I would suspect the expensive snooker tables bank accurately, as well. Again, no experience on them, though, so just a guess.
@@MrJdsenior if you mean geometry wise is like a mirror reflection then maybe the diamonds are truer , however in all my experience with older tables a double will reflect more the bigger the angle so that you can add a third to every shot ie the double reflects from one diamond across comes back another 1 diamond and a third or from 2 diamonds across comes back 2 diamonds again plus one third of 2 diamonds, hard to explain but many doubles and bank tutorials explain the third rule.. another way to explain is that the american tables now behave much more like british tables 7 foot pool or 12 foot snooker ... shots like cockhat shot are even possible with new cloth on diamond type tables with harder cushions where older tables this shot was always impossible as the running side would be accumulative ... I always saw American balls and tables as an exaggeration of everything on british game however new tables are a step backwards taking away the exageration slightly and much more limited shot making even if its more consistent in a way its more difficult also and suits pros because they have to do much more to move the balls around many banks are impossible also now as they double kiss very easily where before even frozen balls you could double long virtually straight shots sometimes considered a trick shot with enough force and side. Hope they return to the softer rubber but im guessing this is a cheaper option or more resilient rubber like the new shims and we will have to endure and adapt :/
It's weird how Strickland relishes on another blabbermouth. You would think he'd be irritated hearing another one like him but no, he likes that kind of playing environment. Sort of calms his nerves.
This was hard to watch not because of the players talking or because of Mike taking long its because I just came from watching their 1988 championship and you can see the difference these were two gladiators that played great and it's hard to see your heros grow old and missing shots they would have easily made in their prime. These are two of my favorite players of all time Goats along with Efren
Sigel and Strickland. Pretty entertaining. Sigel is irritating when he yaps on and on when he's playing in some of the other tournaments but in a match against someone else that yaps like he does it's not so bad.
I'm convinced Mike Sigel still can play world class pool if he would put the time in but I understand the desire to stay at home and not live out of a hotel at his age.
