It was matchup time again for Mike Sigel and Earl Strickland, two living legends. This time, the game was 10-Ball at the 2018 “Living Legends Challenge”. The 55-year-old Strickland, who was still on tour competing, was up against his old-time foe, the retired 63-year-old Mike Sigel. Both of these Hall of Famers had nothing to prove, but since they were mic’d, you can bet that it was entertaining!
John Bender and Bill Hendrixson shared the booth.

Sigel is one of the most obnoxious pool players to ever live. Annoying asf
Sigel is the one opponent that makes Earl look like a taciturn guy, and makes Earl look like the picture of good sportsmanship to boot.
Mike talks a lot... BUT... I submit to you that most people misdirect their feelings about him talking so much in the incorrect way. Why? Because everyone is used to playing with people that bitch and moan etc etc, so it's a common feeling we all have. And we silently direct our displeasure with the person bitching because we know they aren't that great.
Problem with using that same logic when listening to Sigel is he talks so much smack that he suspends your memory and makes you almost forget where you are and who you are watching bitch and moan. Make no mistake though... It's Mike Segal. He's for sure one of the top 10 pool players that ever lived. I say that if you can't bitch and moan all the while becoming one of the greatest pool players of all time then just go ahead and shoot me in the head now and put me out of my misery because I have no liberties to exercise if I ever become good at something to such a high level.
I think he's earned the right I guess what I'm saying and out of fairness we all need to take it... because there are statistically relatively few people in the world that can make Mike Segal eat his own words.
Earl wearing headphones changes the whole situation. I was hoping to see his face as Mike talked the whole time.
When Mike starts complaining, I start looking for my noise canceling head phones!!! Glad Earle can prepared.
If you have to worry about a man's commentary and cannot focus on what you need to do, you are a real-life loser.

Never wanted anyone to win a game of pool as much as I wanted Earl to win this.
Earl didn't want anything to do with Sigel this match. Sigel's slow play, that time out he called, talking about how his breaks compared to Earls will win tournaments every time, talking while Earl is shooting, and (above all) his claims of being the best player of all time, were nothing more than attempts to upset Earl. He's been using these tactics his whole career. He is the greatest example of poor sportsmanship in all of sports.

Nice to see Mike still playing and of course Earl too. Great legends of the game. Mike's definitely a character and must of pissed off alot of players back in the day. Mike's kids must be so embarrassed by their fathers constant need for a approval and attention.

Earl won’t hesitate to whip out some magic when he needs to though. He’s made some of the greatest shots I’ve ever seen; right up there with Efren.

I can totally relate to Earl with the headphones. I keep a pair in my car and wear them everywhere. I don't want to hear anybody or anything 90% of the time. We live in a noisy world.

There's a lot going on in this game : First of all, Earl Strickland looks like he's trying to land a plane with his Lucky Air Traffic Control Headphones. And his arm looks like he's tried to Wrestle a Grizzly Bear, and do his own Medical Bandaging. And on top of it all at 30:50 you can see, a Large Gentleman wearing a Blue or Aqua shirt in the upper left corner. He must think it's Naptime, because he's continuously struggling to stay awake. 💤 LMAO 😆 Cheer's 🍺

Despite Mike being how he is, which is loud, Efren Reyes respects his intelligence on the table and even once said in an interview Mike is the player he admired the most and looked up to. Now that is coming fron the GOAT himself. Mike is a great Legend. Earl too.
When Mike played efrem Reyes, it was a joke, Mike played so bad, looked like school kid,efren just stayed quite, and beat mike pitiful, no contest at all, just making excuses the entire tournament, to me that's very rude to the other player, I believe it was for 500,000 ,one of the largest games ever.

I've seen Earl beat Efren as much as the other way around. I'd say they're ABOUT equal.
Yet when efren first came to the states he lost to nick Varner, Keith McCready, buddy hall, Kim davenport, earl strickland, Johnny archer, etc.

I've always seen Earl listed as one of the best in the history books and pundits, but Siegel rarely. The latter was able to win many tournaments in the 80s (when the participants per tournament were few), but he was not in the 90s when the great players boomed. He saw the threat from Reyes and Earl and retreated. So when he came back at 00 his game had sunk too low and outdated with his delays in executing shots, the game had already gone too far. That's the truth

Mike fouled in the 4th frame. He moved the 9 ball with his sleeve when playing the 1 ball in the side pocket, and didn't call it. He knew he had fouled.
Sigel barking constantly in the backgound would be sharking most places - probably why Earl has on headphones.

I guess that's what makes the GOAT Efren Reyes so special. Not only the most gifted player to ever wield a pool cue, but without doubt THE most humble of all "Goats".
