My best friend at the time had this and I was so jealous. I remember seeing LOTS of Robotech toys for sale at the local flea market back in 85 but I never had any money :(. I also remember seeing all three versions of the Alpha for sale at Toys R Us. Wish I could time travel
Hey, I dun blame ya... These toys were HELLA EXPENSIVE back then in those days when the Robotech cartoons were quite popular on TV, and EVERYBODY wanted to collect them. ALL of the kids in my class were literally begging their parents to DEATH to buy these fer 'em! Transformers, Gobots, G.I. Joe, Dukes of Hazard, He-Man, Voltron and Robotech were the HOTTEST franchises around.
I loved Robotech as a kid. We used to jump off of our bikes mid ride and say we transformed into the Cyclone armor. I watch the transformation on the toy and think that it could not have changed as quick and seemlessly as on the show.
Thank you so much for posting this, I got one for my birthday as a kid. It was my favourite toy, i got it from Fenwicks in Newcastle. I remember one of my older brothers and dad trying to put the bike on the figures back and getting really frustrated. Then told me never take the bike off again 😂
I was able to buy one a couple of years ago. Some lady that was selling his son toys (his son, now grownup, doesn't even live in my country anymore), sold it at a very cheap price ! She actually investigated how much it did cost, and decided that it was way to expensive for a toy (at least half the market price). One of the best pieces of my collection !
You HELLA lucky that you could even find one of these things anymore; at ANY price... Private collections (in good condition and reasonable prices) are the best way to go!
@@OtomoTenzi I know. I was very skeptical at first. It's now one of the best pieces in my collection. Sturdy as a brick. I now have 3 Cyclone toys : this one, a modern one, and a 3d printed one :)
My cousins ex-boyfriend who I am still in contact with had this many years ago. He sold it in the mid 90's and it funded all of his glass blowing equipment. We still talk about this Ride Armor and how he introduced me to anime and model building during that time. Was a lucky kid.
Wow, props for keeping this in such good condition! I remember owning a much more simplistic version of the bike from Matchbox that didn't tranform... I never could find the Scott Bernard figure, so I would just have my G.I. Joes ride it. Haha.
I had that one too. Always wished I could morph it. Same thing with the Varitech Fighter. And yes they were kungfu grip compatible. Just like Captain Power, M.Pact, and Silverhawks.
You better keep it in a safe place, and take real good good care of it like it's a family heirloom... These things are gonna be worth LOTSA $$$ a few more years from now!
Bro! My favorite toy of all time net to the Matchbox SDF=1. I never realized that Scott had extendable legs. I'm going to check this out tomorrow. Thanks for sharing and Aloha.
I was saving up my meal money for this toy when i was young, and when i had enough money, the shopping centre raised the price😭 When i finally saved enough money to buy it, it was sold out.
Same thing happened to me too! Back then in '85 or '86 when these things had just came out, my local toy store wanted at least $25-$30 fer one of these things... Everytime I went there, they would jack up the price a little more. I tried my best to haggle with the saleslady who worked there, but she would NOT yield. I almost ROBBED that goddamn place cuz I wanted one so badly! 🔪
Back in the 70's and 80's toys that fired little missiles were disabled because kids couldn't stop firing them down their throats or into their eyes. Never mind Nerf and those things. lol.
Always loved this toy as a kid, i still have two complete ones.and was lucky to get six of the figures without the bike from a model shop that was closing down for 5$ each..
I loved this thing to death as a kid (literally - I think I only have one piece of it left!). Really fun but not super durable, unfortunately, but possibly my favorite toy in my later childhood years...
That is such a CHEAP price to pay, for a chance to recapture and relive those great childhood days all over again... Everything STINKS nowadays, and you know it my friend!
No matter who I show this toy to IRL they go nuts. Even people with modern Japanese gokin, Macross, 3rd party transformers, etc cant deny it. We were lucky to have something this cool as kids!
This is going to be a lengthy post, so I apologize in advance, but it is for the love of robotech so you understand. I just won an eBay auction for my first cyclone as an adult. It is in good condition but missing the kickstand and has a couple of slightly peeling stickers. I had one when I was five, but I desintegrated it with love. I have been waiting patiently but Easter Sunday is in the middle of my of my shipment wait time....... So I still wait. Also I have a Scott Bernard Masterpiece collection blue Alpha fighter, which had its right hand broken on its first trip out of the box. I also have a Maia sterling Shadow Alpha masterpiece. I first got the H. ICHIJO VF1J Mcross 1/55 Valkyrie. I am waiting on a Mospeada Legioss green Aoshima 1/48 from Robotech.com. The Aoshima 1/48 is the exact same as the Robotech Masterpiece 1/55 model, in fact the Aoshima is the model that Harmony gold used for the masterpiece Alpha, don't know why one is 1/48 and one 1/55 if they are the same size. Through some confusion I thought Robotech.com was out of stock so I ordered a second green Legioss from Tisinc99.com, I later found out from research that Tisinc99 is very untrustworthy....... Anyway, I plan on taking the right hand off of my second green Aoshima Legioss and trading it for the broken Blue Alpha's hand with it. (because the parts are interchangeable), I could really use some advice on how to change the hands out, and how to calm an angry wife for spending all of our money on Robotech and Mospeada toys, ha! Please message me with any advice on the fix, thanks man, this was a great and comprehensive cyclone review! Sorry about the very lengthy comment.
Great review and video AAA+++...thanks to you... I was able to buy my own..your video does alot of justice for this toy. I love the mospeada anime..my version says made in Japan and box as well. I notice online photos show 3 boxes with copyright made in japan, made in Singapore . And a Robotech box with both Japan and Singapore copyright..very interesting...I seen this scott bernard go up to $1000 dollars. I can only admit this toy is legendary..a must have for a true Robotech fan or collector of genesis mospeada.
The saddest part is that since the 80's they have the technological idea of making the HBT power fuels that are portable , easy to be replaced and can be used amongst all vehicles and even their legioss. But electric cars nowadays each with their own battery design so huge that is not portable because of business rivalry and market domination.
mantis999999999, that was fun, man. Thank you. I’d like to get one some day. Can you tell me anything about where to find one or what to get or not get? Sounds like the matchbox one doesn’t transform, and there are new versions that you say are not good... I was such a young fan that I didn’t start looking for toys until it was off the air, having found those bulbous little Max and Miriya veritechs for my brother. I eventually inherited the SDF1, and an Alpha fighter, and even found a Battlepod many years later, but they all are falling to pieces. Wish I had my Jetfire in perfect condition with all the armor again. I’m looking at it now, and it’s seen better days. Cheers.
I actually have both of these toys brand new in it's orig box (opened but never used) the Gakken Ride Armor Mospeada robotech vr-052f and the Transformer Jetfire in my collection and I'm thinking of selling them for the right price if you or anyone is interested. :)
Do you know what the differences are between the painted face version and the non-painted version? I always thought most had the blank face until I recently got a Stick/Scott Bernard with paint apps, which I initially thought was custom.
I had one or two of the toy Mecha items not what was just posted but I did have RDF figures to state more clearly I was really into Dana Max Sterling's daughter I am only disappointed about not claiming any other figure or armor sets as I was so poor I did not have the money I hope my circumstances change?!.
I had a couple of these when I was younger but I sold mine to a collector in the Netherlands. He stopped buying from me after I sold him an alpha and the douchebags in customs broke the radar assembly when they tried to transform it (looking for contraband?). The guy thought I had sold him something broken. Thanks, customs
Mantis nine 9's what's good brother!? 😆 I fucking love this thing and your review was really really cool! The only part that I got SUPER bummed about was you sped up the transformation :( I thought that's why we watch reviews. That aside this toy is SUPER RAD! You should do a newer video showing the transformation. I loved Robotech when I was kid I'm getting the Mospeada Legioss AFC -01H end of the month :)
Cdog Cdog i agree this old toy is still one of the coolest I have! love it. if you want to see the full transformation you can watch it here ruclips.net/video/mLnYK4fl0xE/видео.html
mantis999999999 Thanks bro! I.dont know how many times I watched this video 😂 I'm buying a vintage one like this this year. Already paid for the new one
This is my unicorn. My holy grail. One of my friends got it for christmas when we were kids and I've hated him ever since.
Ryan Gunwitch-Black LoL
Same here. As a kid, I would have committed war crimes if I could get my hands on it.
*The 80s* : it did things to us.
Hahaha, I felt the same exact way when my cousin got this and also Voltron.

The funny thing is ya probably could find these in Japan in a bargain bin in some vintage toy place.
This thing was EXPENSIVE back then we were kids... Even the smallest version (cheap Hong Kong knock-offs) costed around $25 back in the 80's!
Beautiful!! Beautiful piece keep it for ever.

Scott Benard! I remember this in the stores, loved Robotech..i also remember the game zillion the triformation!
I had the Cyclone, the hovercraft, Varitech Fighter and Zentradi Pod as a kid.

I owned this when I was young. I also had the green alphatech. I don’t think I did the full transformation too much. It was difficult for me.
And they BROKE easily too... The parts were just held together by those cheap little plastic joints!
For an old toy, it's pretty nice! I still have one of those and it's still in good condition......
You better keep it in a safe place, and take real good good care of it like it's a family heirloom... These things are gonna be worth LOTSA $$$ a few more years from now!

yeah, can't even get the charging stations to be a proper uniform standard for that reason. it's a shame

Scott Bernard is that figures name
He transformed so much faster in the cartoon
The only issue is the figure has problems riding the cyclone in motorcycle mode.
Macross / Robotech and M.A.S.K series toys were sough after.

I have a toy Gakken Mospeada from the 80s hugs

Slow the transformation part so we can know how with breaking anything
i had to pass one up at the botcon complete in box ran out of cash or i wouldve gotten it :( next time im sure i will

Speeding up the video while transforming it does nothing to show us how it transforms.
