    One of the best moments in the game, it’s there to represent that even in a world as horrifying as the one in the last of us even if it’s fleeting life still has innocence and beautiful moments

    The part that really got me wasn't the giraffe, it was the very beginning of the scene when Joel goes to boost Ellie like the player has done a hundred times and she doesn't respond right away. Its just a moment, but you genuinely see the trauma Ellie has been through and the crushing weight on her.

    • @anatheodoro9596
      @anatheodoro9596 Год назад +31

      Yep. I remember this moment very precisely in my first play through. You did it a million times before, but this time… she’s not there. She’s distracted, traumatized. It’s such a sad little moment and it builds up so well to the giraffe scene. I also love how innocent and happy Ellie sounds when calling Joel, “come on, come on, come on”. And he’s happy with the little giggle “slow down, kid”.

    5:30 idk if its coincidentally, but
    I like the camera angle. You have joel and ellie who have two different wants and in the middle is st Mary's which symbolizes the fireflies.
    Joel wants to go back but the fireflies are what stand between him and ellie being together

    • @nickszune7196

Having this scene right after one of the most disturbing parts of the game (playing as Ellie while Joel is still healing). From a musical perspective, it's really fascinating. It's in the key of D major, but it centers so heavily on the IV chord (G), that it practically makes it the tonal center, making it overall more like G Lydian, which has a distinctive ethereal feel, and the melody exemplifies it beautifully. It's soothing, hopeful, yet unresolved. It's one of those moments where music emotionally transcends what we can describe with words alone. This scene is brilliant.

    People always look at me weird when I say this is one of the saddest non-sad moments in the whole game, maybe even the entire franchise. Why? 5:27 when Joel says “we don’t have to do this…we can go back to Tommy’s and be done with this whole thing” if Ellie had just said okay the chain of events that led to Joel’s death as well as Ellie’s permanent trauma from the entire experience and events that followed would have ceased to exist. They would have went back with Tommy in a stable environment with food, supplies, and more, and they would still have each other. And as much as I despise Abby, even she would still have her father and her close friends that she lost. Don’t get me wrong, this is not me blaming Ellie. I understand that at the time she still had faith in the unknown and couldn’t have possibly known what would follow, but still every time I reach this point in the game I just want to shout at my screen and tell them to turn back. Ah if only…

      Part of the dialogue in this scene is in episode 2 when they were on the roof looking over dilapidated Boston "this everything you were hoping for?" & "you can't deny the view though". I'm hoping they don't ditch it since it's a very impactful scene in the game but I fear it won't be included in the show due to logistics of using live giraffes or making cgi giraffes look realistic enough.

    "Now, there really isn't anything radically wrong with being sick or with dying.Who said you're supposed to survive? Who gave you the idea that it's a gas to go on and on and on?
    And we can’t say that it’s a good thing for everything to go on living from the very simple demonstration that if we enable everybody to go on living, we overcrowd ourselves.
    So therefore, one person who dies in a way is honourable because he’s making room for others.
    We can also look further into and see that if our death could be indefinitely postponed, we would not actually go on postponing it indefinitely, because after a certain point we would realize that isn’t the way in which we wanted to survive.
    *Why else would we have children?* Because children arrange for us to survive in another way by, as it were, passing on a torch so that you don’t have to carry it all the time. There comes a point where you can give it up and say, 'Now you work.'
    It’s a far more amusing arrangement for nature to continue the process of life through different individuals than it is always with the same individual, because as each new individual approaches life, life is renewed. And one remembers how fascinating the most ordinary everyday things are to a child, because they see them all as marvellous - because they see them all in a way that is not related to survival and profit.
    When we get to thinking of everything in terms of survival and profit value, as we do, then the shapes of scratches on the floor cease to have magic. And most things, in fact, cease to have magic.
    So therefore, in the course of nature, once we have ceased to see magic in the world anymore, we are no longer fulfilling nature’s game of being aware of itself.
    There’s no point in it anymore. And so we die. And so something else comes to birth, which gets an entirely new view.
    It is not, therefore, natural for us to wish to prolong life indefinitely. But we live in a culture where it has been rubbed into us in every conceivable way that to die is a terrible thing. And that is a tremendous disease from which our culture, in particular, suffers."

      @@dontneedtoknowmyname5791 I wonder if it had anything to do with budget. I'm sure that HBO saw the potential but still risky since no game has ever had a great show.

    One of my favorite scenes in the game. It really represents Ellie’s innocence, optimism, and humanity. After all she (with and without Joel) has been through, she is still a 14 year old at the end of the day. As mature as she is, she is still a literal kid! So of course she would find giraffes breathtaking. It’s little things like these that reminds people that even though they live in a horrible world, there are still little things in life that are good and positive.

    why are they alive? they are inmune to the infection?

    • @lochness5524
      @lochness5524 Год назад

      The games haven’t really explored wether or not the fungi can affect other species outside of humans, but as the Firefly scientists in Colorado were able to pass the fungi onto a troop of monkeys. However, the fungi didn’t take over them as it does for humans, but they were still carriers of the fungi.
      Each of the 400 RL Cordyceps species are specialised to infect only one insect species, so it stands to reason that this Cordyceps variant is specialised solely for infecting humans. As a result, it has no reason to try and non-human species, including the 🦒, because it won’t have the same affect in their bodies, and therefore would be useless hosts and would fail to help them reproduce. However, that doesn’t change the possibility that someday the Cordyceps could once again mutate to be better able to infect other mammal species, seeing as most other mammals have a similar enough bodily system to humans, that it shouldn’t be too big of a leap. Cordyceps already rapidly mutated twice, first with them jumping to infect humans, but also with the Cordyceps sample that infected Ellie.
      If they can already evolve this fast and radically in such a short span of time, then I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few decades the descendants of those giraffes might one day have to fear the infected just as we do

    I have so many questions right now. What the hell are a bunch of giraffes doing in this place?! Did they escape from a zoo?! If so, How are they still alive?! Are they immune to the infection or something?! What is going on?! And I thought seeing the lions from “I am legend” is weird enough!

    • @LucDutra92
      @LucDutra92 Год назад +2

      Surely escaped from some zoo (or were let out). Since probably there are no natural predators in Salt Lake city to cull their numbers (other than the infected maybe) they were able to thrive. Also, the cordyceps only infects humans.

    • @AloneintheLight96
      @AloneintheLight96 Год назад +6

      Cordyceps didn't infect animals in TLOU world or most of them if I remember correctly. Previously in the game you can see posters on walls promoting a zoo in town which included giraffes. They survived by eating leaves.
