In my opinon, the most emotional part of the scene is right after the tape is done playing. The love Ellie has for Joel is so obvious in her eyes. The way she stares up and smiles at him.
It was a stroke of absolute brilliance to have the tape play with a view of Ellie's imagination as she experienced the launch. Joel didn't just give her a tape, he gave her the chance to be a kid again, something taken from her way too early.
@Dave May irredeemable psycho? Do you not have like actual narrative comprehension lmao? Killing people that shot first and still feeling horrible about it, being unable to reconcile or process her grief and anger because there aren’t therapists in the damn apocalypse, and realizing it’s not going to make her happy so letting Abby go?? How does that equate to irredeemable psycho? If you missed the actual point then say that, because I’d argue Abby was more of a “””psycho””” by torturing someone who saved her life and thinking nothing of it after. The last of us is not a show of good vs evil and you personally not liking something doesn’t mean the writers “ruined” anything, get real .
@Dave May Ellie left everything behind. Her leaving the guitar behind at the house symbolized that she’s left everything in the last back in the past and is moving on
And Ellie also gave Joel a chance to be a father again, something he thought would never happen after Sarahs death :'( I absolutely love their relationship. Them finding each other after the apocalype, a parent who lost a child, and a child who never had one 😢
The way he looks at her, in that moment Ellie became his Sarah. And when he asked “did I do ok?” he was asking that for her. Absolutely fucking amazingly heartbreaking
That is beautiful, the fact that Joel actully looked so hard to find that tape just fir ellie cus he knows she always wanted to be an astronaut This scene made me cry
absolutely mate, since the first one this game has been such a great part of my life, that one of a kind experience, really don’t get the hate it gets sometimes
It’s just the story and the way they killed off Joel. Hell , they didn’t need to kill him off just yet .. he had so much more depth to him... and making you play as Abby & trying to get players to like her ... that was excruciating. Other then that the game is phenomenal
I absolutely cried here This whole scene was what made me fall in love with this game ,and not to mention Gustavo’s music is absolutely incredible here
Everything about this scene is perfect... Joel and Ellie being at ease, cracking jokes with each other, exploring a museum for Ellie's birthday... then this scene, with the tape, the animation like they're actually going to space, the wonder on Ellie's face even with her eyes closed, and the soundtrack to top it off... that part gave me chills up and down my spine. Then the following interaction between Ellie and Joel was the icing on the cake.
Ellies imagination and inner child was kept alive by Riley and Joel. In the Left Behind DLC. Ellie wants to play an arcade machine but it has been long broken. Riley tells her to close her eyes and imagine the game as Ellie "plays" the game and pushes the button and Riley describes everything to her as it :happens". As if Ellie was blind and Riley was describing a movie. Her imagination would let loose and we could hear the characters and their actions. The music. The sounds. The exact same thing happens here with Joel's tape and it just means more after you've played the DLC and know the Ellie can escape her reality through imagination if she's with the one she loves.
I come back here to feel this again. During my original run. It made me teary eyed. This is what I wanted just a bit more in the sequel. But this eased the pain just a bit when I got here. Such an amazing sequence🤧
I was looking for what the song was where the guitar comes in as she’s imagining being in space. Found it from your comment but the full version has another acoustic guitar playing a melody over the top. Can’t find a version exactly as it is in the space scene from the game
@Николай Геннадьевич Асафов the bit you hear in the game when she’s in space is in that song Unbroken. It’s a part of the song Unbroken and not an actual song itself
You should watch Troy baker play Tlou with Nolan and other voice actors. In that scene he explains with a very good explanation that everybody has the giraffe moment and it’s up to them to find it. It was really touching
This is a direct parallel to a scene in the Left Behind DLC, during a flashback of Ellie and her best-friend, Riley. Here, Ellie is imagining going to space: Whilst with Riley, she was imagining playing an arcade game. She wasn’t able to do either of these things in reality, so both Joel and Riley give her the tools to feel like she is living in that moment. My favourite part about these sequences is that they both close in on Ellie’s face the entire time as the light around her shifts as if she’s actually there. I thinks its important to note that she was given that by the most important people in her life, who she later lost in the end.
When I played left behind, that scene with the arcade was so well done and acted, I only wished they could make something like that again. And here, they make it even better and more moving and emotional.
An amazing scene overshadowed by the fact that Ellie turned on Joel so fast upon discovering he didn't let the fireflies murder her in her sleep without anyone's permission.
This scene was absolutely amazing. It was so touching, and it really made me think: who could come up with this? A lovely scene, really touched my heart
I did not expect this at all in a game. It's been years now, but this scene is too special to be forgotten. Joel got to be a father again and gave Ellie the childhood that she never had. This kind of story telling is why I love this game. Same as RDR. They're my favorites 😅
This scene never fails to make me cry. Joel gave her the beautiful chance to live and to love (as cheesy as it may sound). Ellie begins to forgive Joel around the time of their last conversation. What a unique and heart wrenching masterpiece.
It makes me sad asf, and kinda mad how their relationship turned out in TLOU2. Like UGH they didnt talk or look at each other like they use to. But I like the fact they implied Ellie had lots of guilt because of that after Joel died. Like yk that feeling when you don’t care what happened you just want them back. They depicted that well in Ellie. But I’m still kinda mad their relationship was so sad by the end of it
Man this Joel guy is a great character, he and Ellie really are the stars of this franchise, I mean who could be otherwise that now dead surgeon from Part 1 are you kidding me no, these two you want to build a story around... glad that the Naughty Dog writing team agrees and will let them interact with one another forever...
Sarah and Ellie likes dinosaurs. They both have jokes about it (sarah jokes about joel not being a fossil YET ane ellie jokes about joel being old.) They kinda have the same humor (minus the cussing for sarah) And the most obvious, he calls them both "baby girl"
Now ive played this on the remastered, and i gotta say, the ps5 controller is so amazing for this scene. Im glad naughty dog didnt listen to the bigoted haters and actually remastered this masterpiece

1997, Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation 1. Aeris. I cried SO dang hard.

It's incredible. I personally think Ellie became his Sarah in the first game when they were crossing the whole country.
That is beautiful, the fact that Joel actully looked so hard to find that tape just fir ellie cus he knows she always wanted to be an astronaut
This scene made me cry
In the first game, when Joel and Ellie reached the university
Ellie said that she wanted to be an atronaut.
Reference
Ellie also wanted Joel to sing for her, and was interested in dinosaurs
This is the most emotional, and beautifully acted and written scene in video game.
i just love this game so much, the soundtrack, the characters... for me, the best game i've ever played

Neil Druckmann is a master of showing love between two characters. Just feels so authentic and real.
F.uck that guy ,he destroyed the franchise
“Did I do ok?” 😢
Brings me to tears.
Whether you like part 2 or not this is probably the most beautiful, deepest cut scenes of any video game.

easily the best part of the game by a mile.
Moments like these are what makes this game special, despite with others may say
This scene hit me hard. Fuck. Even if this game didn’t go the way we wanted it, it’s more accurate to real life than and that’s what makes it tough.
This scene was the first time I just choked up out of nowhere in any form of media. That little hiccup, it means it was important.

At least part 2 have this scene, it's the best scene of the entire franchise.
Edit: I changed my mind, I really like this game.
This scene was absolutely amazing. It was so touching, and it really made me think: who could come up with this? A lovely scene, really touched my heart
had to come back to this after episode 6
I really need that guitar tab
It's just a Dm and a C in the 5th and 8th fret👍
*The song is Unbroken, you can search for the tab
It’s not a guitar though, it’s a Ronroco, still it could sound so beautiful on a Spanish guitar
I don't think a line in gaming will ever hit me as hard as Joel's "Did I do okay?"
The fact that this doesn't have over a million views baffles me.
They could probably use those suits for some great zombie protection
I'm gonna cry AF if they adapt this scene on the TV series
They will, remember the scene when they were camping and she said she wanted to go to the moon
@@Slipspace-ruptureif they redo this scene exactly how it is with the music it’ll go down as one of the most emotional scenes in tv history
They probably will although it’s not going to hit on the same level as Ashley Johnson’s and Troy Baker’s phenomenal and emotional VA.

Joel: I do okay?
we as players of TLOU 2: are you fucking kidding her?
This scene had me smiling the whole time
I just realized they did some swimming before this the cassette would of got damaged
