Which is why it was awesome. Making a character that small actually important.
its like irl, we are the main characters in our story, we see a lot of people everyday but we dont care about them, for us they are just someone who we forget about them after some seconds, in joels eyes it doesnt matterr how the doctor looked or who was him, for joel they are just normal people who want to harm him...but for others they were friends/family etc
Not like he has a daughter or anything, nahhhh.
@@megamoviez small? It’s the dude who was gonna reverse engineer a vaccine for the fungus. You’ve been looking for them the whole game. LOL
Love that part where Joel saves Ellie from being infected by the Marlene clicker, kills all the other doctors, and looks down at his empty, smoking 9mm and says "This is the last of us, part one" and then the theme music plays

"And with even better graphics"
@@LucDutra92my thoughts exactly when he said that 😂
Marlene and the fire flies really shit the bed here. They should have let Joel and Ellie see each other, they just traveled across the entire country together. Instead they rush her into surgery asap.
Then how poorly they treat Joel when he wakes up. Dude just did 100% of your job and is rightfully/justifiably upset and he gets “march him out of here/kill him in he tries anything. If they took a more measured approach, things could have turned out less extreme.
Where should Marlene know That Joel like her
also, there is no possible 'vaccine' for a fungus - and the amount of time, resources and talent it takes to even make on is immesurable - they had nowhere near enough resources to produce and distribute one.
furthermore, the immunity in some people is the future of humanity - dicing up their brain instead of allowing them to slowly reproduce so they pass on that immunity and humanity becomes immune is the best course of action. killing ellie just resets that progress
@@lennyundflosgamingchannel1042 right where she realized she lost most of her men in the way but this guy alone went through it all and kept Ellie alive

I'll never understand people think Joel is evil or a hero. He's made to be a very human character at the end. Ellie brought that back to him. He's not a bad person for saving someone he cares about instead of humanity after seeing it crumble and become depraved from the outbreak, doesn't mean its a good choice but its a human choice. Why would anyone sacrifice someone who they care about for the world. Humanity never gave a shit about Joel but Ellie did and he cared about her aswell. So you can't call him bad or good because he's killed so many people for the people he cares about but the point is who wouldn't in his case?
Yeah I most definitely agree with you
Naughty Dog's point with the second game isn't about Joel being bad or good. It's the unforeseen consequences he took by doing what he did.
@@frogizel2998 Yeah a lot of people didn't really get that for some reason
@@frogizel2998 Yeah a lot of people didn't really get that for some reason
this is an awful take and i really hope, in the hopefully unlikely event that we end up in a similar situation, that people recognize the ending for what it is.
joel IS a bad person for allowing the world to continue to go to shit. assuming the vaccine would work (and he has no reason to believe it wouldnt and i have a hard time believing a doctor/anyone with training in science would kill off the host of the only mutated cordyceps phenotype if they didnt run the tests that would make them as confident as possible that it would work), joel traded the lives of everyone that would be turned, everyone that would be killed by those who were turned, everyone killed in the conflicts arising from people being turned, and the slow or prevention of a return to a relatively conflict free society...all of that for ellie.
sure he cared about her & shit...but you know about that because you saw it through his and her eyes. from the eyes of everyone else that just got turbofucked until the next 1/1,000,000 mutation comes around, joel might as well be that p*dophillic cannibal who just couldnt bear to have his next meal not being killed by him. the end result is the same - no vaccine is proliferated. maybe it's a little easier to see how this might be evil. his intentions, good or bad, are overwhelmingly eclipsed by the impact.
being human isn't mutually exclusive with being evil or good...obviously...hate to bring up h*tler but i think we can agree that he was evil and he was also human.
good and evil is contextual - within the context of joel being a father, he sacrificed everything so that ellie could live. within the context of trying to save humanity, though, so that everyone else can stop focusing on whether a clicker will give them a hickey and be able to focus on creating and experiencing the same bonds that he had with ellie, that was an undeniable evil.
ultimately you choose which framework you wish to operate under. i imagine the people that think he's evil prioritize the latter and the people that think he's a hero prioritize the former. these are not mutually exclusive. what i find concerning is your anti humanist sentiment as justification for what he did - that is both antithetical to saving humanity AND creating the close bond he had with ellie. at worst, you are simply masking a desire to watch the world burn with the desire to save ellie. i implore you to take a long look in the mirror and seek help if that does describe you or if the possibility of it exists.
One of the most powerful endings I’ve ever played.

@@ThatGuy-en2nn Abby's dad should've just been Ethan. One, it would've been more appropriate to theme without using that "Only important people have kids" trope we see so often in media. @@silverblade357 That requires Neil care more about the story than being a massive sjw, but I agree.
Ethan, the doctor.... it would be the same. People would still hate Abby because she killed Joel.
As a parent myself, what this game really feels like it’s about (to me personally) is the morality and experience of being a parent. If I had a choice between saving my daughter, for me as well as for her, or maybe saving the rest of humanity, I know it’s the “wrong” decision to kill the people in the hospital and save my daughter, but I would still do it, 100 times out of 100….

@@AlexOrtiz_207 yeah I know it’s the idea, but I wasn’t sure if it would just be an updated animation from part 1 or the actual blend in from the cutscene from part 2.

My wife and I made a pretty cool observation in this new version of part 1....
When we played part 2, we were both wondering how much time had passed between the end of part 1 and the beginning of part 2 (when Joel and Tommy enter Jackson on the horses after Joel explains to Tommy what really happened.)
There's a pretty direct clue at the start of part 2 when Joel knocks on Ellie's door and says "Folks are talking about how impressed they are with you and how well you're helping out."
So it's unlikely this is the day after part 1 because it's unlikely Ellie could've gained such recognition so soon, especially after the insanely brutal journey she'd just had and the drugs still yet to fully wear off (as Joel directly references in the car at the end of part 1.)
It's more likely a few days, possibly weeks later, giving her time to work hard, pull her weight and effectively do her bit for the community.
However, there's now more evidence. In this version of part 1 (which is designed to flow consistently with part 2) the walls of Jackson AREN'T fully constructed, but at the beginning of part 2 when Joel and Tommy enter Jackson on the horses, the walls ARE fully constructed.
So basically, we still don't know exactly how long the gap is between the end of part 1 and the beginning of part 2, but what we do know is it was long enough to finish the construction of the walls.....which may well be what Ellie was helping with.
It also raises another interesting implication.......when Joel and Ellie initially arrived at Jackson, Tommy will definitely have asked what happened. It's logical to assume Joel would've also lied to Tommy at that point, simply to hide the truth from Ellie.
However, if we've established the rough time period, that means Joel not only also lied to Tommy at the start, but continued lying to Tommy throughout that time period.
Telling Tommy the truth was probably something Joel eventually felt he HAD to do. Not for Tommy, for himself.
I fucking love The Last Of Us haha 👌
There’s another detail I picked up on; in Part 1 Tommy tells Joel “I haven’t seen a Firefly in years” while in Part 2; when Ellie and Dina come across Eugene’s hideout, they find an old picture of him with Tommy as Fireflies; meaning that Tommy either lied to Joel as there was a former Firefly living in the community or this was an overlooked detail by Naughtydog.
Great observations! Subtle nuances that give even more life and detail to an already very meticulously crafted story.
Waaaaay too much text. Part 2 is 7 years after they Say it at The begining
@@ricardotejeda8156 I think you mean 4 years. You're talking about when Ellie wakes up and she's clearly older. 4 years, not 7.
Besides, I'm referring to everything we see BEFORE that. I don't think you've read my comment properly. I'm referring to the time difference between the end of part 1 and the very start of part 2.
Also who's it too much text for? Not sure what you mean? Do you mean it's too much text for you? If so I'm sorry I guess....I wasn't aiming the text at a specific individual. It was more aimed at people who have the attention span to read it all properly (I don't mean that in a rude way by the way.)
@@cinezurdo oh shit 🤯👍 Maybe he meant an active Firefly rather than ex Firefly....but surely that'd still have been useful information for Tommy to give Joel 🤔 he could've introduced them at least. I'm playing part 1 again atm so I'll concentrate on exactly what's said in that conversation.

Guys I first went through The Last of Us Part II, and I must say my heart sunk and I was heartbroken. It was so depressive and gut-wrenching. For whatever reason, I didn't grow a fondness for the Last of Us when it was released on PS3 back in 2013. I knew that it was a big, important and critically-acclaimed game, but TLOUII appealed to me more. Now going though the TLOU1 Remake (which is phenomenal and fantastic by the way), I must say my heart sunk again with Ellie and Joel's story. Both games, the story and themes, it's too much to handle. Absolutely gut-wrenching story.
Neil Druckmann said, when they announced the TLOU1 remake back in June 2022, that he was working on a project that it was too early to unveil. What begs the question, is there more room for a Last of Us Part III? Do we need to find out more about Ellie, after what she's gone in TLOU2?
My money is on a new IP. There's still a lot of anit-TLOU2 sentiment and announcing a part 3 would be too much imo.

So to be fair, it has to be said that from an ethical and psychological point of view, the Fireflys handled the situation anything but well. Because if there was anyone who could have prevented Joel from going on his crazy killing spree, it would have been Ellie.
Nice I can''t wait for Part II!
All the debate about selfishness, whether what he did was right or wrong, whether it was justified, whether or not the cure or vaccine was possible:
That's the whole entire point. You have to question it. You have to think what you would do in that situation. He made a human choice. A choice that's cold, maybe even heartless in a way. But it's one that makes sense, one that even if you don't like it, you can see how he got there.
This ending makes us think what's moral, what's just, and what's worth it. That's the real point of a story: a theme. We get close to characters because we empathize with them and eventually associate their story with ours. All this debate and all the points made are important, and correct at least to a degree. We analyze all this to make a conclusion on what we feel the right decision was. And from that, we learn. That's a theme. And let me tell you, even if the theme is technically open ended and up for interpretation (which are arguably the best themes in media) instead of a simple phrase...
No matter your conclusion, it's one hell of a fucking theme. And I for one am eating it up like nothing else.
I want to see this in the show so bad
Man this game truly was a masterpiece beautiful story and plot I really wish it never got a sequel
This ending was so touching and it's totally relatable what people would do irl.
17:40 joe became a bit like a hitman and did a apex legend finisher
It’s a sin to not include the transition to the credits with the song. Best transition to credits I’ve ever seen
Loved the last episode but this scene was a little to fast the way she was talking in the show it’s like damn breathe a little
Trying to picture this game if tess didn't die and she and Joel went to save ellie that would be a true masterpiece
This felt a little soulless, the original has more emotion on this part
I agree
Better than Original for me not because fanboy i only play it once and don't complete platinum and yeah remake better but the price feels shit
bruh
It’s almost exactly the same with better presentation lol
I dont know how, to me this looks even better but ok
RIP that surgeon that in no way will effect the second game AT ALL
IMO the game is still, by far, a much superior watch, and I think this is the best example of it. Joel is presented in a fair light and the tone is kept grey, he's a man that's made a decision and knows what he's about to do, and the fireflies ain't no saints either here, so fair points could be made for either side of the argument.
On top of that the action is by far more spectacular in the game; the infected are a constant threat, so are the raiders.
The lighting, the scenery, the ambiance, the tension... there is just more of everything in the game, and watching Joel and Ellie use an entire armory to plow through it while bonding it's just beautiful.
The show was sadly very lacking on that part as well, and while it's not a "bad" show, from my pov it just doesn't hold a candle to the game :/
True Wonder how there gonna bullshite there way out of lous part 2 the game that killed of fans, lous,Joel, and naughty dog.
I can't wait to watch this tonight.
Can’t wait to finally run this on PC
Me too. Im just waiting for pc version

Not only she ordered to kill him if he tried anything, and she didn't even give him the reward promised ! Where the fuck are the guns ?!
I think this game was made to mitigate some of the damage caused by the sequel in order to progress the franchise properly. The problem with the sequel is that it doesn’t really open up any interesting avenues for the general fan base to commit to. A broken Ellie or the adventures of She hulk and trans Atreus aren’t as compelling as Joel and Ellie, something ND is beginning to realize.
That and to justify the retcons lmao, still did have fun with this game, but tbh the extra gore and details did not justify the extra money plenty of people paid for who most likely still have the original version on ps4, luckily for me, I got this game for cheap from a friend
Trans Atreus? The fuck?
@@ThatFedoraGuyyy
What retcon?
You people have no idea what the term means.
@@Indigo_1001
Retcon
verb
revise (an aspect of a fictional work) retrospectively, typically by introducing a piece of new information that imposes a different interpretation on previously described events.
One such example, when we killed the doctors and that one remaining dude, in order to grab Ellie out of the operating room at the end of the game, he, and his team and operating room have been altered to appear much cleaner and competentin Part 2 and now in this Part 1, whereas the first iteration of the game had them slightly dirtier and in a dingier setting. Clearly done to make people who would go into part 2 resonate with Abby's plights and origin more. Like it or hate it, a retcon is a retcon.
That wording explains it. You don't like Abby and Lev, so therefore ND haven't given YOU any avenues of interest. There's you and then there's the general fan base.
ND aren't "realising" anything. You just don't like what they did, and that's ok.
13:41 bro the music so sadly 💔
13:26 Abby's farther
Okay so if they do indeed make pt 3 the only thing they can do is make Ellie go on a mission to make a cure that's the only plot I can see them doing that would actually work. Which would involve Ellie dying. That or maybe finding another immune person
