41:45 I've always interpreted this as the point... The Imperium may be flawed in its own right, but Chaos is a path to ruin all it's own. For as brilliant as Horus's opening gambit was, for as capable as he was at preventing the loyalist legions from rallying back, ultimately there is no honor among traitors. For as much as Horus was loved by all just 15 years prior, he faced the Emporer alone. A Primarch abandoned by all those who turned with him. Each of the remaining traitors leaving the Heresy of their own volition to pursue their own wants.

This is very impressive, Ian! I'm a huge fan of Perturabo, and I've come to the conclusion that both The Emperor and Horus believed too much in the whole "Lord of Iron" persona. They thought he was indestructible and infinitely stoic. In reality, he was quite sensitive emotionally. They underestimated what their rigorous assignments were doing to him. And in the end, neither could control him anymore. Once Horus learned the truth about him, he ordered Perturabo and his legion to make cannon fodder of themselves during the siege. Perturabo refused, and now the Iron Warriors are fiercely loyal to their Primarch because he kept them from being sacrificed by their masters. Thanks for the video! 😅
Huh, I didn’t really think of that last bit, that they’re loyalty to him is from him seeming protective of his legion, even after the decimation. I do wonder if the Fists, Iron Hands or Dark Angels would of suited that attritional role without growing dissatisfied better

This is a well done summary. I read about half the Horus Heresy books so I was curious as to where the story went. The pacing and chronology of the narrative in the books is why I dropped them. The Horus Heresy is such a sprawling story that you couldn't do it in another medium, the first 5 minutes of this video would 10+ 60 minute episodes of a TV series.

Amazing video, this is a perfect guide to the HH and made me remember so much of the books that i loved reading the first time.
I have found my preferred Warhammer YT Channel!
You cover a range of relevant material with no pretentiousness and your delivery is succinct & expedient.
Thank you!
Great Vid, just finished Painting my first Horus Heresy mini and this popped up. Fingers crossed for some decent Horus Heresy reveals at Warhammer Fest this weekend.
This video was crucial for me to further enjoy the End and the Death trilogy. Thank you for this massive work.
Didn't even laugh when he talked about Uranus, a true professional.
I’ve yet to start painting my pile so this was super helpful, many thanks 🙏
The Horus Heresy in 40 minutes? I'm impressed! You've really outdone yourself this time
You absolute madman! You did it!! Just earned my subscription! Will binge watch your content!
This was awesome! Thank you Ian. To have the whole heresy explained like that is brilliant! Bravo!
The long-awaited sequel to your very first video. Bravo. Very well done.
Thanks Ian, this filled in a lot of story gaps as I dip in and out book wise. There's just so many! Currently reading Saturnine - the Siege of Terra books are really enjoyable so far.
i'm not a book reader but i love warhammer lore. this is such a blessing
This video, the Dune: Part 2 first look and the Armored Core 6 new trailer already made my day!
Amazing video. Concise, entertaining and informative. Thank you for having the map it put so many things into perspective and helped me under stand more. Thank you for respecting your audiences time. Definitely going to watch this a few times. Keep up the good work.
Funny how Horus brought on his fears to reality by betraying his father
Oh yeah, it's all coming together.
Fantastic summary, thank you. Slowly working my way through the books myself, just finished Mechanicum. I've always been intruiged by the HH, ever since 2nd edition, so it's great to read it in its minutia.
16:38 correction:
They were sieging the Gordian Leagues on the Planet Gordia IV, not on Diamat. The Lion would lead a small strike force of some 200 Dark Angels Legion Veterans, a Dreadnought, the Gloriana Class BattleShip *Invincible Reason*, some damaged Dark Angels Legion Warships and some Non-damaged Dark Angels Legion Warships to the Tanagra System to hold the ForgeWorld Diamat and prevent Horus' Forces from looting it's Supplies, Resources&Military Assets to use in the fortification of Istvaan V.
Aside from that though, you got it all spot on. Very nicely written and masterfully paced Video!
Phenomenal content, man. Keep up the good work - never goes unappreciated
This was so awesome. Thanks so much for doing this.
These lore videos are always well-researched, well-presented, and very digestible. Great stuff, as usual, Ian!
Great video. I'd love to see one that covers the main events of the 10k years between the end of the Horus Heresy, and Guilliman's return!
Woah... this was AWESOME! Probably the best HH recap out there (and in just 40 mins, you say?!). Well done Ian, you're doing the God Emperor's work very, very nicely indeed.
Superb breakdown, thanks for posting
Baby, wake up, there's a new Arbitor Ian video
Awesome coverage! I am almost halfway through the main story, and will need to watch this 100x as I read each book! So much going on in each book I forget what's going on, this really helps to put it in a simple perspective. All readers of the series need to see this. Thank you for creating this awesome video!
Truly magnificent! Thanks for putting this together.
Those maps were fantastic. Such a great summary! A+ video
Awesome job. Great summary!
1:55 It is real in my mind, only its events still haven't come to pass we are in year 2023 out of 40.000
Tremendous effort friend
Great video, I'm new and this 1 thought me more than all others combined.
Subbed
Amazing work Ian
This is a well done summary. I read about half the Horus Heresy books so I was curious as to where the story went. The pacing and chronology of the narrative in the books is why I dropped them. The Horus Heresy is such a sprawling story that you couldn't do it in another medium, the first 5 minutes of this video would 10+ 60 minute episodes of a TV series.
Listened to this twice and still get a bit lost, its almost like its a galaxy at war!! Cheers for doing this...I think itll be a multiple re-listen
Yes. This is exactly what everyone should do!
Genuinely enjoyed this video. Thanks as always. You can tell how much effort you must have put into this one. I’m only on book 17 so quite a bit of story left to go for me!
Have you done the Age of Apostasy or Nova Terra Interregnum yet Ian, that would be a great couple of videos
Started my journey into The Horus Heresy and 40K novels with "No Know Fear" and man am I thankful for that spur of the moment choice to get into such an expansive and interesting universe.
One of the best Warhammer novels! Like a disaster movie that turns into a war movie… All the ones Ian and Mira have done for their book clubs are excellent too :)
@@HistoritorJimaldus Best part is I didn't know who were the Traitor Legions at first and when I looked up the WB and saw Traitor I mentally whispered "oh nooooooo..."
This was brilliant! Thanks! Exactly what I needed to get caught up on the history!
Appreciate you not turning away from this period like a lot of 40k story channels who only mention events as they are relevant to stories they like more.
A very well done video. Entertaining and informative!
