    I can see why you two, and so many other consumers like this vehicle. The Telluride has a familiar, but also a distinctive exterior design. I like the way it looks on the road too. I bought a new Telluride over a year ago and it”s excellence has surpassed all my expectations, I’m a single guy, but at a vertically gifted 6ft 7in I really appreciate the roominess and luxury. I was pleasantly surprised by my awd getting better than 24 mpg in city driving. It also has excellent acceleration. In 2020 the Telluride won more automotive awards than any other vehicle ever had in one year. My friends describe my Telluride as limo with suv capabilities!

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 3 года назад

      @ That problem stemmed from KIA dealers' initial reluctance to believe that their traditional "budget constrained" customers would be unwilling to pay $50,000 (US) for a KIA. Thus, they ordered too few upper trims and KIA responded by building fewer top trim models. The issue has eased somewhat but the effect of the pandemic, especially in limiting KIA's suppliers' problems of meeting demand has extended it.

      @@andreaspencer9813 Exactly our family's calculus, Andrea. We're a family of four (Two adults, a teenage driver, and a big dog.) The Sorento is a "Goldilocks" vehicle for us. At 189" long it's about 8" shorter and 3" narrower than the Telluride making it easier to maneuver and park in the jungle of suburban traffic than the Telluride. I'd estimate we use the third row less than 10% of the time. But on those occasions when we need to transport 6/7 passengers on a short journey, the third row is a HUGE convenience compared to using two vehicles.

This build originally started in December 2019, got cancelled because of covid-19 for the 2020 model. New build submitted for the 2021 model August 2020 with a completed due date of November 2020. I was glad I'm getting the 2021 model instead of the 2020 model. Because of the added remote start on the key fob to the nightfall addition package on the 2021 model all nice additions. The only thing is I prefer the 2020 style wheels to the nightfall edition style wheels for the 2021 edition., but those wheels are starting to grow on me.

    Lol, my neighbour also had a white Atlas and had nothing but issues. He now drives a white Telluride :) Loving the new Blacksky Edition. My only wish is that the black wheels were the same as the SX Prestige black wheels offered in the USA. Also for this being the top model, I wonder why there's no nappa leather included. Perhaps they are still having shortage issues with it which is why they began offering a non-nappa limited version for 2020. There doesn't seem to be much of a wait here in Ottawa as I see them sitting on the lot and in the showroom when I take my Telluride in for servicing. By the way, I've been watching Zack for years and years. I really like this new format with the two of you presenting cars together! Great review and lots of positives on the Telluride which it no doubt deserves. The only real knock on the Telluride for potential customers ironically is how successful and popular it is and thus the continuous high demand leading to inflated prices and long waiting times for delivery. Demand is so high many people are paying 5k or more over MSRP and many are happy to do so just to have one before their next door neighbor gets theirs! Great for Kia and their dealers but with an expected price hike for the 2022's across the trim levels the value proposition is getting watered down a bit. I think a fully loaded SX in the USA in 2019 was under 47k before taxes now many SX's are listed in the low 50k's! Overall looks like a great vehicle but it's only going to get more expensive especially in the so popular SX trim in the USA.

    Excellent review, folks. A few observations from south of the (Canadian) border about the Telluride.
    Though the Telluride and Palisade are cousins, perhaps even siblings, their design objectives and competition are quite distinct. The Telluride is built in Georgia and sold almost exclusively in North America (not available even in Korea) while the Palisade is built in Korea and aimed at a wide variety of international markets as well as North America. Thus, the Telluride competes against a whole range of mainstream midsize unibody SUVs (e.g. Explorer, Highlander, Pilot, Ascent, Atlas, Traverse, CX-9 etc) that are rare or even unavailable in Asia and Europe. The Palisade, on the other hand, is mainly up against more expensive premium or luxury brands in Asia and Europe. (e.g. Audi, Mercedes Benz, Volvo, etc.).
    As a result, the Telluride leans toward a "rugged" vibe that North Americans love while the Palisade projects a premium or even a "budget luxury" image in markets where luxury trumps rugged. That's not to say that the North American market is unimportant for Hyundai but the overall emphasis of the Palisade is meant to appeal to markets where the middle class is growing and affordable luxury is a huge selling point. Thus, the Telluride projects a tough, masculine truck-like vibe that lacks the digital cockpit eye candy, the motor driven third row folding seats, and the faux quilted upholstery of the top trim Palisades. Different markets, different emphasis.
    When KIA reached the final stages of development for the Telluride the company believed they had a winner. With that in mind they optimistically planned to produce 50,000 Tellurides in the first calendar year. KIA dealers were also optimistic but they were accustomed to budget constrained customers who hoped to find a bargain in a KIA showroom. So when KIA asked dealers which trim levels they believed would be the most popular, the response was that the volume sellers would be the base and one step up trims. Dealers ordered accordingly and KIA began building what dealers ordered.
    As it turned out both KIA and dealers were spectacularly wrong. Demand was overwhelming and much to dealers' surprise customers were more than happy to spend $50,000 (US) or even more for a KIA. The company rushed to expand production in Georgia but that wasn't like flipping a switch. Hiring and training more workers and setting up new production lines takes time. And like all automakers many of the components in their vehicles came from third party suppliers who found ramping up production to be even more of a challenge than KIA, itself. For a while, in fact, production of the top trim SXL model with the "premium package" was effectively halted because KIA couldn't get enough captain chairs from their suppliers.
    In the end KIA's estimate of selling 50K Tellurides fell short of reality. Almost 60,000 Tellurides were sold in the first year of availability. And even that didn't meet demand. In 2020, the sales went up again to over 75,000 units. For dealers the result meant adding "market adjustment" stickers to the vehicles they received, creating long waiting lists of customers, or both. All of this in the midst of the COVID pandemic that impacted production in Georgia while KIA still struggled to meet demand. Had dealers been able to fill their orders, US sales of Tellurides would probably have reached over 100,000 units in 2020.
    Meanwhile, by the way, Hyundai's production of Palisades in Korea was hardly affected as the country actually controlled the pandemic with only a few hundred casualties compared to half a million deaths in the US. The difference being between a competent and a completely incompetent national government. So while the Telluride outsold the Palisade by a ratio of 2 to 1 in 2019 in the US, Hyundai outsold KIA with over 81,000 US Palisade sales in 2020.
    The good news is that the long wait for would-be Telluride customers has eased somewhat. What was a six month wait for a top trim Telluride in 2019 from my local dealer has shrunk to about half that. Still, much to the displeasure of my dealer, his Hyundai competitor has comparable Palisades sitting on his lot ready for customers.

    Still king!
    Huge hit! And about time, at least for those of us who like a great value. The problem, though, is that the out-the-door price on a loaded model is not the value that many of us were hoping for, as Kia dealerships are selling them above MSRP. Here in the New York metropolitan area, I am seeing used ones listed for more than the MSRP on a new one. In fact, I have seen a used one listed for $55k (yes, US dollars), that’s $6k over the MSRP on a brand new top trim model.
    Zack hit the nail on the head: Why can’t Kia offer the top trim with the bench seat, at least as an option?
    Just like one of your viewers, I would take the Telluride’s exterior with the Palisade’s interior.

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 3 года назад

      Not all KIA dealers indulge in price gouging with "market adjustment" stickers. My KIA dealer has a policy of never exceeding MSRP for any new vehicle. But the downside of that policy is the existence of much longer waiting lists for delivery.
      As for wanting a bench seat option in a top trim, KIA isn't alone in their market research that indicates customers willing to pay top dollar for an SUV overwhelmingly prefer second row captain chairs. It's simply the case that those with more disposable income typically place a lower priority on extra seating and a higher priority on roominess behind the first row.
      Why not offer it as an option? Simple. If you were already selling every single top trim vehicle you can produce with captain chairs why would you divert production to a model with less appeal to your target consumer?

    • @bill7481
      @bill7481 3 года назад

    This may be easily overlooked but what I really like in this "lower end" SUV vs the luxuery German 7 passenger SUVs is that the 2nd row seat folds in an instance for 3rd row entry. WOW, you actually don't have to hold a button for 3 years for that seat to fold AND unfold. 7:24

      Same point holds in regard to the power folding third row seats in the Palisade vs the manual method in the Telluride. The Palisade's power folding system makes watching paint dry an engaging activity compared to raising/lowering the rear seat backs.

But this dipped in Black model needs all the wood replaced with Carbon Fibre and the pewter chrome needs to be blacked out. The TELLURIDE still blows my mind two years after release. I totally agree with Zach on the white color and silver chrome. Glad to know I’m not the only one out there who just can’t get into the blacked out chrome look. I just test drove this exact car, SX in Copper Black with Nightfall package. It was literally the only Telluride available in my area but I just couldn’t get past all the black, not a fan of the blacked out chrome at all. That with the black body color and black interior, it was just WAY too much. I also think the grill and wheels on the nightfall package actually cheapen the look of the vehicle. Needless to say I placed my order for a white one with silver chrome, I can handle the black wheels. 😆 What can I say, I’m old fashioned. The dealership is saying the wait time right now is about three months.

      @@midlifemom5829 I think the MDX overall is more premium. Interior materials are a step up with the new MDX, a more sporty drive and engaging engine. It has a button shifter as you'd know vs traditional stick shifter in the Telluride that some might not care for. I believe the MDX also has a better AWD system. The Telluride info screen is touchscreen vs touchpad in MDX, something definitely to consider as many don't like the touchpad. I'd say you get more features for your money with the Telluride, an MDX with the technology package and SH-AWD is around 55k at this price you're still missing features the Telluride SX offers and you'd have to get the Advance package on the MDX at 60k or so to be comparable in features.
