Why on earth does your website region block the full episode, so that we in Europe cannot see it?
The second-most brilliant non-answer I’ve ever heard, just behind Jordan Schlansky describing his job duties.
😂 I freaking love Conan picking on Jordan Schlansky.
Now we all know what Macron should do next
😝
But Jordan Schlansky has various duties
But he literally answered the question, all he wants is for there to be stability in the region and to effectively maintain the status quo. Maintaining the status quo has been the goal of this conflict for decades.
Chris Wallace would have told him it was a non-answer and asked him repeatedly until he answered the question or said, 'Mr. President, you still have not answered the question'.
😣 60 Mins needs that kinda gravitas again, MW was like a regular guy who just wanted to get the truth and didn’t take BS. The archives with him are 🔥 Esp that interview where Mike interviewed Jiang Zemin.
"Wallace is way above your guys" Jiang Zemin to HK reporter...
Did he say anything?
Not really, but it sounded nice and sweet for some to feel better, didn't it?
(sarcasm)
I translated what he was trying to say 😂
Nothing😂
NO
Basically he said he wants to avoid mentioning Taiwan when he’s talking to Chinese politicians
Macron said US strategy confrontation with China is not French idea.
EU was able to trade and cooperate with both side but now EU has to pick a side, the US seems to be the clear choice since the US is representing the democracy world, however the US and EU are not aligned in majority of issue in the world politics and economics, a clear example, the US reaching into Europe's pocket using energy crisis as opportunity.
@@andyofzz EU needs to defend itself. Period

Why would France fight in China ?
Most sensible. Why increase tension and confrontation. Fairness and respect. People just want peace and stability.
No confrontation without being naive.
In an ideal world and even today's world, we should always keep talks open, regardless of government we're talking about, but there are limits to that, just look at Russia for instance, the west has shown a lot of weakness towards Russia for over a decade, there were a lot of warning signs that the west needed to put its foot down on Russia, from them taking over Crimea, to Russia playing in western politics and to all the poison and killings that were being done under the government of Putin and yet, the west ignored it and turned a blind eye and only started to change once Putin invaded Ukraine.
We had many warning signs on Russia over the last 10 years but we didn't listen in the west, there are many warning signs with China but I think talks would be better than confrontation and China has far more to lose with the west then Russia does so the diplomatic options whiles being tough is probably the best solution on China, especially when it comes to China and Taiwan and how China is conducting business in Africa and other places around the world which are like predatory practice.
‘Most people just want peace and stability’ FTFY. Gotta exclude dictators like Putin,Xi, Hitler etc.
It's naive to expect no confrontation in that area lol
that strategy worked so well in ukraine
That’s achieved through deterrence. It may feel slightly provocative at times but is manageable and safe.
A matter of concern, a matter of time. Unfortunately.
sick of politicians answering questions without giving answers directly
direct for you is: we want to respect china but at the same time no confrontation. basically stability. he is saying basically "hey china we respect you... but don't do that we have territories and guys here and other countries around..... and we all want stability"
It means if you f up we will come to impose stability and peace.
It's a diplomatic way of saying we will enforce stability if war happen. Because we and other countries in the region have interest in stability and peace.
It’s honestly on the spot type of reply. He may not have been briefed about current events, you never know if you’re falling in a trap. He just fluffed his answer, it’s better than starting a war.
Only children see the world with only right or wrong, France has good relationship with both and no need to pick a side.
Then they wouldn't be politicians now, would they? 😅
Exhibit A for why Europe in general is so weak and uninfluential today
Exhibit B is found in Kraut's video "Trump's Biggest Failure" providing enlightening facts that nearly all of Europe is highly dependent on trade deals with China, and without that they would have way less money.
Western Europe is in life support of the Arabs.
The Arab stability crashes, you can bet the entire world is going to get dragged into this.
Whoever built the system then, didn't expect for the new players to be far more egotistical, and weaker than their predecessors.
A lot of kids grew out of the history before the cold war. They forgot how stress brought on by the barons created a bloody dark event that spread like a wildlife from the west and all the way into the east, the red armies..
Every dam time, we think we're free, but the events of the greedy drags us all down.
With rapid deindustrialization gaining pace soon in Europe, EU is becoming a "paper tiger": look good (democracy, human right stuff, etc.), but can't do anything... France's economic model: tourism: just sit there, waiting for tourist to come eat/drink, then collecting money. That's it.
@@oceanwave4502 I thought "paper tiger" was a description of a military that looked intimidating, but in reality was weak or unorganized for failure.
In another word, I don’t know.

How do you fare in French?
my only following question is does he view Taiwan as a sovereign country?
Why do you need to ask? “One China” is the official policy of France. De Gual and Mao settled it in 1964. Have you been living under a rock?
Nobody does😂
A lot of naysayers in these comments. The anglosaxon militaries might have big guns but perhaps their citizens are so used to gutter level politics and politicians, they forget what intelligence sounds like.
So this is a translation of what he said in direct, concrete terms: France opposes the territotial claims in the South China Sea from China, and supports the territorial integrity of all local partners including Taiwan. It wants a peaceful resolution but is not naive about china's military ambitions.
As a hesd of state dealing with delicate international issues, you have to choose your words carefully, especially in a foreign language.

So many people saying he didn't answer. In reality, his entire speech can be summed up to "I can't answer that publicly", and that is an acceptable answer for such delicate matter.
Tell me Taiwan is not a key consideration without telling me Taiwan is not a key consideration.
Because France is too tied with Chinese trade, I don't expect Macron to have any firm stance against his country's 2nd largest trading partner against invading Taiwan.
The US is the number 1 Chinese trade partner so... and Germany is 7th. Dunno where France is. Still USA Number 1!!! lol
@@clarkl7027 there is an unfinished war because Taiwan's government used to govern all of China at one point. The new government took over the mainland, but never Taiwan. The top priority of all countries in Asia is to keep growing their economies and take care of their people.
Europeans are welcome to trade and engage more with Asians in a constructive way.
I can't say the same thing about the forever war loving Americans who are desperately trying to exaggerate anything that is related to China. Pretty pathetic i have to say.
Looking at French encroachment of Africa you can't say the same with trade, west still has colonial mindset and Asian countries especially those developing at a fast pace, United needs to bury them deep with trade without interventions of domestic matters

@@Grimstool It's not really up to European countries to be interested in other regions, that's the job of those local countries in the given regions, but European countries tend to want more peaceful and stable relations with China and the rest of Asia whereas the US sees China as a threat to it's power around the world.
Opening up on trade, as long as it's balanced, has a lot of benefits for both sides, but it's difficult to open up more on trade when say an EU country has a much higher GDP per capita and workers rights compared to an Asian country does, trade could be opened up but it would be a far bigger advantage to Asian countries because of lower wages and poorer workers rights, hence the balancing act when it comes to trade deals.

However Russia took massive chunks of land from China, yet you don’t hear a peep about it from the CCP.
