The whole time during the first episode that it was replayed in the other room repeatedly, Yamazaki was probably in pain. "Every single day since last month"
The light novel makes it a lot clearer, Yamazaki was living as a hikikomori because he couldn't stand the people in his college, that whole month he was isolated.
