Y'all can go into the forest I'm going home 🤣

They're coming from behind!

When the chanting starts it's time to go......
Hahahahaha I know it’s been 2 years but… what an great comment sir!
@@yalak_sv thats cool. Im here for it! 🤣

Her voice still brings tears to my eyes, I adore Heilung so, so much
I tear up also, I can feel my ancestors here.

That is breathtakingly beautiful.
Or the same song but with Eivor 😍
Marco C. YES!!!!
that was exactly the song i thought of as well when i saw that Beth did this beautiful review =D
Yaaaaa for sure! Such a gorgeous song and the live version with Aurora is astounding.
Aurora is one of a kind... she sounds good singing anything.
I love the song krigsgaldr, the female singers part was stuck in my head for days it's so beautiful and haunting.
Maria's voice is amazing on krigsgaldr
I think my favourite is Alfadhirhaiti. Such an incredible band.
Hell yeah
I was just gonna recommend that
Beth you absolutely have to listen to Krigsgaldr by Heilung, Maria's voice and the harmonies are incredible.

That's awesome, thank you!
TheMrVengeance I’d love to see the kindergarten class that has this as their ABCs :)
Thank you for that! Even though walking on thin Ice, but different Rune-"Poems" where really important back then, if I remember correctly ^^ was the best Live Show I ever witnessed at Wacken
@@TheMrVengeance the "ABC´s" of the ancient scandinavians were very important not only did eachhavesound stuff as well for example Fehu meaning wealth/money (value/currency?) so each rune actually had meaning, one could say it was not a name for lets say wealth it WAS wealth

oh my god yes!
I agree. I've been following Wardruna for a while now and know basically all of his songs Helvegen being one of my favorites. But aside from that, I love Vållat that Einar Selvik did with Maria Franz and it was a duo I waited on for a while but Einars Snake Pit Poetry is also one of the best in my opinion.
This is what the Forsworn do in Skyrim when you're not watching.
I ship that rothfl
My thought haha xD
XD hahaha so true
I would say... this type of singing is where the idea of the Greybeards came from.
i get this is a joke but heilung is about healing, and the forsworn are about the corruption and defiling of nature
The chanted portion is a recitation of the names of the Runes of the Elder Futhark.
Came here to say this.
I would still be singing the ABCs if it was like this
@Mathew Fairbrother I think I saw you on another video saying the same thing
@@ozarkfive2519 probably, i usually go to the comment section with something i feel like saying and some other bugger beat me to it
@@matthewfairbrother6348 but its more then Abc. back in the days when not everyone could write/read in many cultures written language was something very holy and magical and thats especially the case with nordic runes.
"There's something so relaxing about this." She says, to the war chant.
But you just can't help it. The chanting is super calming even on the more aggressive sounding songs.
Not a war chant. It’s the elder futharc
Heilung is meant to make spiritually calming music, but nothing can be full without a bit of tension.
@@CharlieBrownsApocalypse They are literally calling upon Tyr, the highest god of war before before Odin's time, to aid their armies.
Harigasti Teiwa
Tawol Athodu
Ek Erilaz Owlthuthewaz Niwaremariz Saawilagar Hateka Harja
Come, guest Tyr
For this invocation
I, the Rune Master, servant of Odin, call upon the one of the Sun to aid our army
lyricstranslate.com/en/maidjan-corrupt.html
Because it's not a war chant, it's the Futhark runes in order. It's kinda like singing the ancient ABC's.
It's overtone singing or throat singing.
There's something very primal about this music and the singing, as though your ancestors are speaking to you.
It's something you feel in a very deep way.
I came across this viewing Inuit throat singing, this is great. Lately there's been a grand resurgence and interest in ancestral music asks fusion... check out a tribe called red and alien weaponry
thought so as well, it's got that mongolian vibe to it
It remind me a lot of Innu throat singing ( Arctic native people living north up here in Canada ). Same rythmic and spirit talking vibe.
It's throat singing. Overtone is a part of it but just overtone is different than throat singing
It feels as though your ancestors are speaking to you... because they are! The first time I heard this group I watched their entire Lifa concert and couldn't leave my seat. I was completely entranced!
They're trying to reproduce the music from way before the viking age, when Scandinavia had a lot of different shamanistic traditions. There hardly any knowledge of what pre-Germanic music actually sounded like, because when Christianity invaded the Scandinavian countries the missionaries made sure to kill off many of the people who practiced these old religions and rituals, and also since there wasn't any widespread writing culture yet(runes), very few descriptions of the music survived. This band of artists have tried to recreate it from accounts of old Roman and Celtic texts describing the "growling", rhythmic music of the pagans of the north. That long with findings of the actual instruments made of animal bones and inspiration from other, more known, tribal cultures this is what they came up with. Might be accurate, might not be.
more on the "might not be" side, like everything we dig up the ground and read from biased historicians from way back then
I think you have it reversed, the Nordic people became Christian, and their religions fell away.
Iron Age kinda is viking age
@@Zatsumaster Not at all. Just....go on and read the time period of the viking age.....
I'm not sure you're entirely correct about the missionaries in Scandinavia. In Denmark, for example, the Danish King at around year 1000 (a bit earlier, actually) proclaimed the Danish people to be Christian, as seen on the Jelling Stones. No murders in the name of religion are mentioned, as far as I remember.
If our beautiful Earth had a voice, it would sound like Maria Franz.
Hey man!
Sorry for you having ng to wait for this long, but here is the meaning of the core characters in their performances:
Maria is playing the embodiment of nature, like the forest, water and the wind
The man with the aggressive headwear is the embodiment of conflict/war
The man with its bone-like mask, is of course the embodiment of the creatures within the forest
The guy with some black facepaint is the representation of the people.
@@greentitan0262 now it all make sense, thanks!!!!!
She has an amazing voice, in all honesty she’s what’s kept me interested in this group as a whole. I came for the throat singing, I stayed for the voice of the planet.
Because, please correct me if I’m wrong, it doesn’t seem like she’s trying to sing to be ‘pretty’. She sings to make you/us feel. Using ever tool in the vocal arsenal to achieve the purpose the song(?) needs. This group seems to purposely stay away from recognizable modern popular music techniques. Which is smart so it feels truly primeval, but gives this a distinct personality.
So often I’m exhausted with modern female singers, “oh I gotta to the power ballad to try and top the charts” or “I gotta do the crazy high note song now”. Just, ugh.

Great vid. They're speaking/singing Old Norse. The language of our pagan ancestors. That's why it speaks to your soul.

I'm probably late, but a necromancer, TRADITIONALLY, would mean someone who divinates through means of the dead (either corpses or spirits). But with the centuries, it turned to mean any type of magic practitioner whose magic deals with death and the dead (that means conjuring ghosts, divination through the dead, reanimation of corpses, etc.).
Now that I said it, I continue with the video lol.
Thanks for the detailed explanation.
Beth Roars, it's necrophilia that's the one you thought you should be worried about. Lol.
You are also wrong , its Shamanism . Necromancer is dealing with occult - magician - wizard
@Follow the howl easy .. historians .. religion .. you obviously know nothing about shamanism or seidr or volva
@@mjp5318 "necro" literally means death.
@@ThaGreenGoloco your point ? The word used was necromancer = a person who practices necromancy; a wizard or magician Faust a lead singer is a Shaman who practices Shamanism = is a practice that involves a practitioner reaching altered states of consciousness in order to perceive and interact with what they believe to be a spirit world and channel these transcendental energies into this world. 2 different things. Shamanism was a art in Norse / Viking time and era , there is historical facts , and runes that Norse wrote that explains this ... so again .. wtf is your point ? Corvus is wrong , Paganism is not about "devil and evil" Christianity teaches that about Paganism

I'm very grateful to Heilung. They've helped me start a journey.
I worked at a used bookstore, and one of our regulars is a guy about 65 or so who is a music fanatic. Any style, any era, he will listen to it. He has stories of meeting every band you've ever heard of from the 60s and 70s when they passed though Cleveland. My wife and I love trying new music, and he came in one day and handed her a piece of paper with "Heilung: LIFA" on it. She said she would listen to it later on lunch break. He quickly held up his hand.
"No." You have to watch the video of the whole live performance. Trust me."
Of course, we did. When she went home she brought up the video of the performance, figuring she could try it for a few minutes as the performance began, then she would have dinner.
She said she suddenly noticed that the performance was ending, it had been an hour, and she had not thought of food or anything else. The music had CONSUMED her.
6:10 Some deer species shed their antlers yearly, so that might still be considered veggie friendly if it’s one that was found after it came off.

They mix Nordic, Germanic, Celtic and Mongolian styles together
Nordic is Germanic thoe..
It's actually all just Germanic. There is no Celtic or Mongolian in it. The reason they sing like they do is because of the depiction of the Roman army in Northern Europe. They would sing like howling dogs.
Just because there’s throat singing doesn’t mean it’s Mongolian.
Going off of descriptions from the band my dudes
The main aesthetic and sounds is Roman depictions of barbarian music culture, but they use multiple musical styles to achieve their understanding of the ancient styles.
At 15:10 to 15:20 Maria starts singing like the Sami people in Scandinavia. It´s called jojk. Can be sung with words and just sounds. It´s very beautiful.
Omg yes! I love heilung.
Quarantine Beth makes my heart roar so fine
You are sitting there fascinated by the music. It really impressive.
I can only imagine their tour wagon. I imagine it being decorated with skulls and with fur pelts all over the inside. maximum sexy.
Or it's filled with synthetic pink fur and disco balls
Or it is just a regular modern tour bus. Just because they enjoy performing these shows doesn't mean they eat sleep and breathe this stuff 24/7.
Throat singing is northern European. It has a long history in Finland.
To me this is tribal.. And connects to something deep inside of me. I catch myself keeping time to this by patting anything near me. Just wait until Maria begins!!! Her voice is SO special..... And she plays her bone!!!! BUT in this video she has a drum like thing!!!
This is SO different, great but different!!!!! I think it connects to our souls!!! Take care!!!!
