They're trying to reproduce the music from way before the viking age, when Scandinavia had a lot of different shamanistic traditions. There hardly any knowledge of what pre-Germanic music actually sounded like, because when Christianity invaded the Scandinavian countries the missionaries made sure to kill off many of the people who practiced these old religions and rituals, and also since there wasn't any widespread writing culture yet(runes), very few descriptions of the music survived. This band of artists have tried to recreate it from accounts of old Roman and Celtic texts describing the "growling", rhythmic music of the pagans of the north. That long with findings of the actual instruments made of animal bones and inspiration from other, more known, tribal cultures this is what they came up with. Might be accurate, might not be.

In Denmark, for example, the Danish King at around year 1000 (a bit earlier, actually) proclaimed the Danish people to be Christian, as seen on the Jelling Stones. No murders in the name of religion are mentioned, as far as I remember.

She has an amazing voice, in all honesty she’s what’s kept me interested in this group as a whole. I came for the throat singing, I stayed for the voice of the planet.
Because, please correct me if I’m wrong, it doesn’t seem like she’s trying to sing to be ‘pretty’. She sings to make you/us feel. Using ever tool in the vocal arsenal to achieve the purpose the song(?) needs. This group seems to purposely stay away from recognizable modern popular music techniques. Which is smart so it feels truly primeval, but gives this a distinct personality.
So often I’m exhausted with modern female singers, “oh I gotta to the power ballad to try and top the charts” or “I gotta do the crazy high note song now”. Just, ugh.

I'm probably late, but a necromancer, TRADITIONALLY, would mean someone who divinates through means of the dead (either corpses or spirits). But with the centuries, it turned to mean any type of magic practitioner whose magic deals with death and the dead (that means conjuring ghosts, divination through the dead, reanimation of corpses, etc.).
Now that I said it, I continue with the video lol.

He has stories of meeting every band you've ever heard of from the 60s and 70s when they passed though Cleveland. My wife and I love trying new music, and he came in one day and handed her a piece of paper with "Heilung: LIFA" on it. She said she would listen to it later on lunch break. He quickly held up his hand.
"No." You have to watch the video of the whole live performance. Trust me."
Of course, we did. When she went home she brought up the video of the performance, figuring she could try it for a few minutes as the performance began, then she would have dinner.
She said she suddenly noticed that the performance was ending, it had been an hour, and she had not thought of food or anything else. The music had CONSUMED her.

To me this is tribal.. And connects to something deep inside of me. I catch myself keeping time to this by patting anything near me. Just wait until Maria begins!!! Her voice is SO special..... And she plays her bone!!!! BUT in this video she has a drum like thing!!!
This is SO different, great but different!!!!! I think it connects to our souls!!! Take care!!!!

As someone who is nordic and studied the culture a ton. I can tell you with certainty my ancestors and Norsemen had so much respect for animals and have dedicated chants solely for different animals. They have nothing but respect for animals. That’s why they love to show it off as shown in this video with the garb.

Goat noises, also known as hammer vibrato ;)
The title means corruption and is part of the story of the whole album which is about a village being corrupted by war.

I have not seen a single second of this channel before, yet I am urged to do everything I can, to really suport this channel. Not the first time today. Wow youtube. What have you become.

The insane thing about this is I believe this was their first time ever performing live. They didn’t do shows before this.
