I'm glad you have a good and honest mechanic you can trust!
Have a nice day. 🙂
If it stalls again try a new denso front O2 sensor. I had stalling issues in the past during closed loop operation (idling/ part throttle.) Ran fine during warm up and WOT. Never gave me an O2 code. Graph looked normal from scan gauge and O2 sensor passed FSM resistance checks. I changed it anyway because it appeared to be the original sensor and it completely fixed the stalling. They are cheap on amazon.
i had a random misfire on cylinder 6 on mine and i was worried it was an early sign of head gasket. pulled the distributor and saw that it had signs of arcing on the surface around. after replacing it with a new distributor cap and rotor it has been giving zero issues.
So glad you guys made it out safely.
Really glad to see you back!! I never miss any of your posts!!! Just shows the longevity and reliability of Toyota!!! Glad y’all are doing good and back.
Your unidentified bent object is definitely the arm for the onboard lever-action french press. If you bent it, you probably need to adjust your grind angle. Congrats on the move, that would be awesome!
Hahaha! Copy that!
Good move getting out of the city Michael, hope you guys are happy there!
Glad you are back, I was just thinking yesterday I have not seen anything from you guys in awhile. Congrats on the move and getting your rig back up to a 100%
Thank you! Yeah, kinda feels like life 2.0. Big changes! Loving it.
Great VIDEO!!! Congratulations on the move!!!!! That’s incredible! Top Shop Auto is a wonderful shop! Nice Work!!!!!!
I have to say, that in that previous video, I worried about the dog running loose when y'all were extricating yourselves. Glad all is going well!
That’s why I snowmobile in the winter, way more fun!
Great vid, keep 'em coming.
Huge fan of your truck! Just dropped off my LC80 at Top Shop Auto today. Hopefully, they can get mine running again.
I was surprised to see your rig at the shop, that was a pleasant surprise.
"Guess what the locals say" hahaha I know that feeling of moving somewhere new. CA - OR was an interesting move at first lol
Thanks Mike; we’re headed to Alaska this year and I know now two more spare parts I’ll be carrying with me, that igniter thing and a coil, just in case. Peace out !
Awesome. My next is to buy a dern PCM! Probably not OE because $$$ but after market around $300. Has to be for your exact specification.
HI MICHAEL 👋
GLAD YOU WERE OK & LOOKS LIKE AN EASY FIX ONCE YOU GOT IT TO FRANKS SHOP . CONGRATULATIONS ❗ ON YOUR MOVE , HOPEFULLY LESS PEOPLE, TRAFFIC AROUND YOU .
QUESTION DOES FRANK WORK ON FORDS TOO ? HAVE QUESTION FOR 🤔 HIM . BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! ENJOYED 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 🍨 REALLY GLAD EVERYONE MADE IT SAFELY BACK HOME FROM YOUR ADVENTURE ! GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES 🙏 THANK YOU 🙏 😊 THE SNOW ❄ & RAIN 🌧 HOPEFULLY HELP YOUR AREAS WITH FOREST FIRES 🔥 🙏 & DROUGHTS , FINGERS CROSSED !
Spilled coffee, mate. Was just spilled coffee.😊
OK now, we feel the need. The need for a new OB vid. Have mercy, its the middle of winter and cabin fever is running wild.
Like the haircut. Did that to mine a couple years ago. Got tired of funny looks when we came out of back country and I looked like a crackhead. A little chilly in winter but love it in summer.🤪
fusable link can cause some super weird electrical gremlins
Hey Mikey! A very informative video and I enjoyed it, too. It's great that you returned safely home.
Perhaps a new PCM as a spare part may be a sound idea?? I keep a large amount of spare parts for
the 4Runner. I won't bore you with the list, but it's a $$ sizable investment. Given the logistical issues and
rising prices on parts.. You get the idea. Good luck on your new digs! Cheers, Mate.
Heard a lot of good feedback on Top Shop, might come by for my 100 series.
Another thing you might want to check that I had problems with my 80 and toyota pickup Was the Ignition switch. Replaced a lot of stuff, and that's what it was.
Ooooooooh. Good suggestion.
Awesome info and insight. Im working on a 1989 suburban overland build and was interested in learning more about the battery terminal relocation ideas. How and why? and if it applies to my build, especially since I want to finish my dual battery and red arc isolator set up.
The only problem with those particular adjustable links is the location of the adjustment screw. It seems like one good bounce on a “slick rock” would snap the screw at the threads. The threads might act like an engineered sheer point.
Nice Pics of the North Fork American. You have to visit when it’s raining and those side creeks and river are running high. It was super high New Year’s Day at the confluence. If that is your new location, there are many Landcruiser used and new parts, very experienced mechanics and fab shops near you. WFO, 4x4labs, Stellar Built, Dissent, Valley Hybrids (alittle further but worth it. And a local TLCA chapter. Take care.
Thanks for the tips!
Congrats on the move! Rear lower control arm from a later 80 series Landcruiser.
Love the set design....
Thank you!
Congrats on the move. I bet you have more space for the same or less money.
Igniter, coil, and generally the ignition system old or new is best and highly recommended to go OE. As Michael stated aftermarket ignition modules are terrible and sometimes bad out of the box.
They did the right thing with heat testing and wiggle test, unfortunately not doing it at the shop.. it happens to us all the time.
Congrats on the move out of the bay area. It's getting real ghetto there in some places. Being closer to the mountains must be refreshing, the Sierra's is one of my favorite places to be in. I've seen those OEM ignition control modules for $500 online. Aftermarket ones can be as low as $35 but sounds offly risky
I get my 80 worked on at top shop! Great shop. If you ever see my white 95, OB 29873, give me a holler
Will do! We will likely cross paths!
Happy new year!
Happy New Year!
@@OverlandBound congrats on the move! :)
A bent rear traction bar I do believe
I guess they are trailing arms
I kept having issues with my rig (07 Xterra) with starting. It would get slower and slower over time. Thinking it was a starter so I ordered a new one. Turned out.... the cheap battery terminal kept losing connection. Key advice.... buy a quality battery and terminals. Not the cheap stuff.
Igniter? never heard of one of those over here in the UK
The Aftermath!! Be safe friends!
No more planes flying over?
Hahaha! Not anymore!
I'm looking at adjustable rear control arms for my rig. Which ones did you go with?
Hi! Where is that profile picture filmed of that mountain range with your landcruiser in front of it?
Hi Brother. I see your RUclips Plaque in the background. You dont know how much you inspired me. Help me get a plaque too please. Thank you
Yay!
Dude that's a record!
Hahaha! Just perfect timing.
Man they dont make hood struts like the used to :)
My question is, how on earth did you bend a rear lower control arm in a front on collision?
Watch vid
So the upper control arms on my 21' jeep ecodiesel were more bent than that, in the shape of a banana. Luckily that was the only major thing. Lowers are ok and axle fine. We cannot figure out how it could have bent the way it did when we don't even wheel that much or that hard. Dealer doesn't either and it wasn't warrantied.
Hello.
The hood - I recall seeing a matte black finish on the center section on the Moab videos. Was that a temporary thing, or did I hit my head harder than I thought last week on a low-hanging garage door?
BTW: Sierras - welcome to paradise.
Still matte in the center. Probably too dirty to see :)
I am guessing it has to do with air flow to the engine or exhaust, maybe a leak in the intake manifold or EGR(if there is an EGR), or a bad sensor and it is affected by the temperature.
Oh never mind, I guess something related to the spark makes more sense because the engine is stalling, and an air leak would just cause it to misfire and run poorly probably.
I don’t see the battery terminal in the description.
I call my 1fzj80 Honey Badger... She doesn't give a F***.
Lower control arm
That is hardly bent. You should go wheeling with me. 😉
Hahaha

lithium under the hood is often not the best idea. While lead acid batteries can not handle cold weather, lithiums are the opposite. They can handle cold weather reasonably (they will not charge below a certain temp, but there are batteries that have an internal heater to allow them to be charged in cold weather), but hot weather will kill them. so the heat of the sun beating down on your hood, and especially the heat of the engine compartment are at minimum bad for the longevity of your battery. In a bed box, or inside the vehicle are a better mounting solution for lithiums. Personally I am fond of AGM or Gel under the hood as a starter battery, and lithium for a house battery mounted in the bed of my truck (I have a bed cap, so I could mount them in a battery box attached to the bed, but I prefer a bed drawer system with battery mounts forward of the wheel wells for my truck... well once electrical upgrades are in the budget... a couple projects ahead of that on my list yet.)
But like Mike said... You need to look at your individual vehicle and your power needs.
Ok , throw sensor at the problem. Cam , crank ETC , that’s all I got 😢
We are thinking PCM at this point.
Boss, replace the fuel pump
Thank you! Already done that.
Happen to work with Electronic Arts?
I did!
Rear lower link.
Boom!
Thats a phalangy
OME or Kings?
OME lift, King shocks. So, yes! :)
Hey Michael any chance I can get the investor perks I am owed from investing a year ago. Never got. I have sent lots of emails with a bunch of empty promises.
Hi there! It’s Corrie. That’s my responsibility! Shoot me an email to corrie @ overlandbound dot com and I can see what happened.
Sent an Email Sunday. Looking forward to hearing back on this.
Just downloaded your app and you are missing a lot of sites around me dude.
Dm me if you have the time. I’m Michael in the app. Always looking for ways to increase locations. You have all the layers on including mvum?
Lol I thought you meant a real crash, well played click bait
Might the problem also be a slowly failing fuel sender?
👍🏻🙏🦘
