It’s Rivers’ ego and desire to grow as an artist. Problem is, it rarely works. I’m trying to think of just 1 band that it’s worked for. Even Radiohead lost a lot of people after Kid A. Rivers has to stick to his influences that helped him create Blue, Pinkerton and Green. I do like Okay Human. If that were a guitar based album I think it would be hailed as their best since Pinkerton. Just my opinion. 😉
If you listen to Cockroach (the demo which became TBOTE), its bridge is much better than the one that ended up on TBOTE, which yes, is the chorus of Volunteers. I don't think I'm alone in thinking that when shit gets swapped around, the result is actually worse. This Volunteers chorus is a good chorus and this is where it should've stayed. Likewise, I connect way more to the lyric "I am a cockroach" than "My head is spinning"... it's just more fun to sing for a start. Like someone else said here, managers/producers (apart from Rick O, RIP) watering down the good stuff.

It’s just great power pop with that bridge and I think the cockroach line is way less catchy to sing than “My head is spinning” but different strokes for different folks. also the line is “rock and roll cockroach rather than “I am a cockroach”
Weezer listens to their managers way too much. The suits are never the creative ones so as artists we should trust ourselves and our creative visions better. So many great Weezer tracks never end up on their albums and when a new just ok album comes out Rivers always seems to mention it was our managers idea.

This is how the band should sound for the most part today. These producers (not Ric Ocasek, R.I.P.) and record company executives really ruin Weezer's final product. However, I can't help but think that Rivers himself happily goes along with whatever ridiculous current trends and pop music dance beats that are out there. It blows my friggin' mind, when you have Patrick Wilson, one of the most solid rock drummers in the business of the last 25+ years, in your band, why the hell would you want to screw your music up with slick production and cheesy sounding drum machines or whatever the hell they end up using for the final product. Damn, it irks me to no end. Weezer need a _true_ hard rock producer. And listen to the fans like the ones I'm finding in this comment section.

hi yuh! so i got all the songs off of one of rivers cuomo’s demo packs on his website and just edited them together back to back using premiere pro (but you could use any old editing software out there, there’s even some good free ones if you look into it). i forget if i made the cover with photoshop or gimp lol. it’s been so long and i use to use photoshop before my adobe ran out and i switched to gimp (which is completely free and can do basically all the same stuff). in any case all that was involved in making the cover was finding an image i liked, and found fitting for the album, off of google images and placing text over it in the weezer font (which you can easily find for free on the internet if you just look up “weezer font”)
The best thing about Weezer still is, that at some point in time they put the big tough guy dudes in their place by the power of music. Nobody cares about Jack the football dude. But Weezer still stands and will stand for as long as there is music.
rivers cuomo has them available for sale on his website riverscuomo.com they’re very cheap for what you get. i used his ewbaite pack to make this fan album but he has a bunch of other collections with really great tracks too!

I’ve began listening to this a lot and OH MY LORD, this sounds like a second Blue Album.

Ric Ocasek was an artistic genius no debating that. The Cars will always be my favorite musical group. Ric’s solo albums rock out as well.
