@@SamHayden I meant for both. I just want to be safe from my laptop from getting some kind of virus, or getting in trouble by the law or something for downloading a copyright YT Video. I hope that makes sense.
@@Shadow_2055 I see what you mean, I assure you that there are no viruses, in my video you can see has 35 K views and hundreds of users applying the fix with no issues. The file itself comes right from the VLC website. Also with this fix applied it is just fixing something that is broken in VLC, this is VLC's fix for it. This feature in VLC just allows you to stream a youtube video through VLC, that is it. Any other options and ways of downloading a video I, or this channel, do not support. This ONLY shows you how to stream the video to VLC, nothing further - I hope this helps!

I tried a number of different ways including replacing the youtube.luac file to make VLC Media Player play RUclips videos before reinstalling the program for that to also not work. Then I found your video, followed it and I'm not sure how, but it's working now.

Hey thank you!! So an update, I have been looking into this because too many were commenting that it was not working and some report the error, “"VLC is unable to open the MRL" url stream. Upon looking into this, I pulled logs from VLC and upon digging into them, it seems that the error indicates that while attempting to play a RUclips video via URL, it encounters an error with descrambling RUclips's throttling URL parameter, which prevents the video from playing correctly. This is likely due to changes in RUclips's video delivery mechanisms that the current version of VLC cannot handle.
I am still looking into this and hope to have an answer soon. It may be an issue on RUclips’s end, not sure yet.
Another Update: So, upon hours of research into this, it appears as though this is happening because RUclips may have changed something on their end and the VLC side has not accommodated for this change as of yet. I have a video explaining this in more detail. That video will be released tomorrow at 8AM central time here on my channel. If you have the notifications on for my channel, you should ne notified when it gets published.

For the time being, while we are all waiting on a brainiac to create a new LUA file to make this work again, I have found an alternative that allows you to stream URL’s just like VLC used to. I had the same issue until trying Aix Video Player, which is a fantastic video player and can easily play any films smoothly.

Unfortunately, this did not work for me. Downloaded the lua file as shown in the tutorial/video. Then replaced it down in c;/programfiles/..... Reopened VLC, pasted the url. pushed play button, the slider rushed quickly to the end. Video did not play.

I am trying to play a RUclips short on the VCL player, but this doesnt work for me. Do you know if I can fix it?
Hey, there shouldnt be a different with a short vs a regular YouTuble video. If it did not work for you. I have outlined in another video what to do if this doesnt work. Quick rundown though, I recommend using revo uninstaller to uninstall VLC and reinstall. This video will explain it, I think its around the 4 minute mark, although there are chapters and it is marked. ruclips.net/video/0EOXsaDgXb4/видео.html
If that doesnt work, one of my subscribers told me recently that a Windows reboot fixed his after the fix didnt work. May try that.

Hello, thank you for the comment and watching. So, a LUA / LUAC file is a file that is used by VLC to add additional features to the software. Kind of like a configuration or settings file. And yes, VLC is capable of downloading videos from a network stream. I used to have a video up like that but it was taken down for some reason. But if you do a search, I have seen others on RUclips. Hi Thanks. It didn't work. I downloaded the newest VLC Player, VLC 3.0.18 and I replaced the lua file i downloaded directly from the site yesterday, but it is just doing nothing. I don't even know when it broke as I haven't used it in weeks so i have no idea what the problem is or why the simple fixes won't work.
Edit to Add: I downloaded and deleted it 3 times. I loaded programe directly from the exe file and finallyit worked. Thanks for the direct link to the lua. there seems to be an issue with wether it is named lua or luac.

Unfortunately didn't work for me. Followed the steps, but VLC still gives me an error message saying, "Your input can't be opened:" followed by a super-long URL. Not sure if this video is too old for the most recent updates of YT or VLC, but I need a new fix (or a new way to download from RUclips)... >_>
Hi thanks for commenting. This fix is not to fix the error you are getting, nor is it a fix to allow you to download from RUclips. This fix is to only fix VLC not streaming a video from a URL. There is never an error associated with this issue. It simply just will not play the video form URL. In addition, this fix is still relevant, I did it the other day for someone and it worked fine, plus I have commenters on this video recently cmmenting that it worked.
The error you are seeing is usually caused by different things such as VLC Player is not updated, VLC Preferences have changed or a firewall or antivirus software is blocking the video source.
I would suggest ensuring that your VLC is up to date and maybe reset your VLC preferences.

it still doesn't seem to work right. it still wants to sit and buffer like every 2 seconds at a time
Thanks for commenting. If the video is coming up but buffering, this fix will not fix that. This video is for if VLC dont even read the RUclips video form the URL you put in. If your comes up but bufferes that has nothing to do with this issue. That is a whole separate issue. I have another video that has to do with VLC lagging and skipping. This file worked before, however it's not working today. Maybe the fine people at youtube made some adjustment, causing errors on the VLC when trying to playback vids on youtube. I tried almost everything on the internet. I'm not giving up yet.
Hello there, so an update, I have been looking into this because too many were commenting that it was not working and some report the error, “"VLC is unable to open the MRL" url stream. Upon looking into this, I pulled logs from VLC and upon digging into them, it seems that the error indicates that while attempting to play a RUclips video via URL, it encounters an error with descrambling RUclips's throttling URL parameter, which prevents the video from playing correctly. This is likely due to changes in RUclips's video delivery mechanisms that the current version of VLC cannot handle.
I am still looking into this and hope to have an answer soon. It may be an issue on RUclips’s end, not sure yet.
I addition, if you find a fix let me know and I will be happy to make a new video so we can get this going
Another Update: So, upon hours of research into this, it appears as though this is happening because RUclips may have changed something on their end and the VLC side has not accommodated for this change as of yet. I have a video explaining this in more detail. That video will be released tomorrow at 8AM central time here on my channel. If you have the notifications on for my channel, you should ne notified when it gets published.

For the time being, while we are all waiting on a brainiac to create a new LUA file to make this work again, I have found an alternative that allows you to stream URL’s just like VLC used to. this had worked initially for me, but after a recent update for vlc it wont work
Hey sorry it did not work for you. I have outlined in another video what to do if this doesnt work. Quick rundown though, I recommend using revo uninstaller to uninstall VLC and reinstall. If that doesnt work, one of my subscribers told me recently that a Windows reboot fixed his after the fix didnt work. May try that.

For me videos play but they buffer a lot
I checked internet usage in task manager and it only uses 0,5Mb/s
I followed the tutorial but it's still buffering

@@kamyk3923 Sorry to hear that, about the only other thing I can suggest is use revo uninstaller to uninstall VLC and then reinstall it. Aside form that I am not sure why its doing that

I also tried vlc android on phone
And it's limited to 50kb/s too
So I guess it's RUclips's fault or something with vlc overall
