I believe your assertion is correct. Personally, I think RUclips is just trying to make it harder to view their content when it's not on their website. I, and many others I'm sure, will be waiting eagerly for a new .lua file to be created to alleviate this frustration, thank you for this update! You're a lifesaver!

For the time being, while we are all waiting on a brainiac to create a new LUA file to make this work again, I have found an alternative that allows you to stream URL’s just like VLC used to. I have made a video on this, and that video will launch this coming Monday, in the morning time. If you are subscribed to me, ensure that notifications are clicked on so you don’t miss it. This video helped remind me of what I needed to do when this issue occurs. I just wished there will be a new updated Lua file soon so I can continue using vlc

The reason I used VLC to play RUclips video is that I can see the codec info, with it I can download the video. This may well be the reason that yt changed its codes.
One can still watch yt videos with any browser, of course.
Agreed, seeign the codec is important to some, in fact over on my video for an alternative to VLC (PotPlayer) video, someone had asked abotu seeing codec, and I do not think you can with PotpLayer. Just wish this VLC issue would get resolved. Thanks for watchign and commenting on my video!!

Hey thanks, yeah I wish I could have brought a fix to everyone, but for now you are right, at least we know what the issue is. cobalt.tools is a good online way to do it. It's also open source, and can download in audio or video format. Just a little alternative to use while we wait for the VLC team to update their .lua

Hey thanks for the comment, in newer versions of VLC they started naming them luac for some reason, never quite understood why, but dont worry, it is normal to see.

Still the same issue. Not sure why all other files in "playlist" folder are .luac and downloaded file is just .lua. Anyway renaming is not doing nothing as well.

is there a luac file for rumble or odysee?
This is the list of LUA's, it does nto look like neither of those are on there unfortunately: code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/-/tree/master/share/lua/playlist
