Mike, the metal tube you picked up after the shovel handle is the ferrule that goes over the handle, down at the business end, to support and protect it. The shoe cleats are ice crampons and the pointed pick ends go on the base of an ice axe handle.
Same here in Northern Finland. The forests are littered with stuff. Found a live 1936 mauser bullet the other day. We have over 30 camps nearby in one area alone. Buckets dated 1940, tin cans, parts of vans, engines, oil lamps…….the list goes on.
That stuff should probably be mapped by pros...even though much of it is simply rubbish. It's still insights into the past. Much like Napoleonic era encampments. Someday it will be gone.
I happened to be recommended your video by RUclips. It was very awesome to see those artifacts. I can’t believe their still there after all this time. Neat!
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC,MIKE! Thanks so much for taking us along. The amount of equipment left there is mind-blowing for us lovers of WW2 militaria, especially the pack frames!!! YOU DA MAN! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
It's crazy that all of this is just laying on the ground. If this were my woods when I was a kid, that would be picked clean. We did find a lot of arrowheads but I never had a metal detector to look for anything underground. Luckily for my grandparents generation but unfortunately for me, there are no WWII artifacts in our New England woods.
As a Canadian watching your videos it makes me so jealous. I can’t find ww2 things like this anywhere around me. I’d love some of that stuff to add to my history collection.
You're lucky WW2 didn't land upon Canadian shores, leaving its debris behind, and I say that with absolute respect for your fellows who fought in Europe.
Looks like they cached and burned everything upon surrender or withdrawal from the area. I started skiing eith nearly identical ski bindings; Silveretta Bindings!
Probably because others have been there before but weren't conscientious about replacing the dirt and soil back into the holes that were dug. As the old saying goes it only takes one or a few bad apples to spoil things for everyone else.
Like WWII Trash or just everyday Trash? Because I would be shocked - having never been to Norway, my expectation would be everything orderly and neat as a pin.
I was looking for packrafting in that area an found your channel 😂. But thanks, very interesting. My grandpa's brother was there as a soldier of Gebirgsdivision "Nord". He got a finish medal for rescuing a (finish) officer, Nahkampfspange (close combat medal) etc. He got shot in the lungs. However, he survived. He may have been in that field hospital. My grandpa said his brother was quite "famous" within his unit for several actions / "good shooting". My grandpa himself was also soldier of the "Nord" (12. Rgt.), but was fighting in southern Germany at the end of the war (he was 18). Their three brothers didn't survive the war, the youngest turned 16 in Dec. 1944. My grandpa died last year, his surviving brother several years ago (I knew him). My grandpa was heavily traumatized and always told me to run away if there is a war starting...
I lived in Norway in the 90s. Even then there were many with a strong dislike for the Germans. One of my friends told me of places with concrete bunkers and 8mm ammunition laying about.
Steigeisen, Schneeschuhe, Eispickel und so weiter....all sorted and on top....seems like the soldiers had to leave after all because they lost the area and got to jail....maybe....
Man wat een gekkenhuis zo veel relics als ik daar mocht rapen zou me auto me krakende veren terug naar huis gaan 😂 Maar serius er ligt daar een fortuin aan relics 😮
I'm envious that yall can walk into the woods and find this stuff. There's a lot of bring backs in the U.S. but they cost a pretty penny for us collectors
Mike, im sure its a front-post, where soldiers stayed before going to the frontline, and where the got back for suplies or got ot from. Also the canisters (for plains) show, where the packed it for the troops. Great video, but still think some of it, migth be better at a museum :-)
Those metal attachments that the mountain troops wore on the bottom of their boots are cleats. I'm guessing the owner has had other people who used metal detectors and dug up the land in places but they didn't replace the soil as they found it. That's a big no-no here in the U.S. where some of the guys who are searching for long buried artifacts on their RUclips sites are very meticulous in making sure that they replace the soil back in the ground so as to not leave unsightly holes. Maybe you could show the owner what you do when you seach the ground and how you restore the ground back to the way it was before being dug up.
Yeah that is probably what happened. People do make a mess of things and screwing it up for others. But metal detecting there was probably useless anyway. Would have loved to have dug out that gasmask canister spot. I'll bet there are some decent ones underneath the toplayer
he probably knows that there is things that can still go boom just below the muskeg, and not to mention the fallen soldiers in unmarked graves, battlefield grave robbing for certain German artifacts is a lucrative business, hes doing his part to keep shovels out of hallowed ground.
I dont see why there would be a problem to put a coil to the soil at a dump like this , problem is i would believe it would be hard to dig with all that iron
The owner simply didn't want it. It was fun checking out all those relics nonetheless. And not sure it would have been any use swinging a detector there with so much big metal chunks in the ground.
2 Geb div. Depo for the tropps fighting on litza. The owner of the land don't want a lot of people in the garden. I have permission and trying to show this to you. We probably haven't showed you the best objekts in Finnmark. Mike is welcome back anytime for more video 😊

be thankful. it would be very bad indeed if the germans made it to canada!
You're lucky WW2 didn't land upon Canadian shores, leaving its debris behind, and I say that with absolute respect for your fellows who fought in Europe.
Holy shit! It’s literally a gold mine. I’d rather explore this than visit any museum.
Yeah me too!

Good thing you had a guide, could get very lost walking around in that forest. Lots of very cool finds. Especially those gas mask canisters.
Watching this on Christmas day and its utterly amazing. Thanks for a great year of videos Mike and Happy Christmas !
Mike, why didnt the owner want anyone to metal detect on the property? There is probably a lot of cool things preserved under the surface.
Probably because others have been there before but weren't conscientious about replacing the dirt and soil back into the holes that were dug. As the old saying goes it only takes one or a few bad apples to spoil things for everyone else.
I don't know and didn't ask. Usually it is what @noahellis3672 says. Probably a few bad experiences with other explorers or something.
Maybe dead bodies he haves buried who knows?
its probably like detecting a beach.
where someone threw 10,000 BBs.
cant move without getting a signal.
Probably scared of someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing finding something explosive..
The chimney was probably for a boiler. The drop containers were there probably to pack with First Aid materials to drop to the troops.
Thanks John!
Bro, it was great to see you and Digger Dawn hanging out! Another great video. Hope the universe is smiling on you and yours
It was big fun seeing Dawn again at the Kooistra rally last month!
Thanks for coming by and great to read you enjoyed the video
Your first find is called „Steigeisen“, which fitted to boots helping men to move on icy paths.
What a massive amount of stuff. A scrap haulers money 💰 pit. Thanks for showing and taking the time.

Reminds me of my holidays in Norway, trash everywhere in the woods, not what i was expecting..

I'm amazed thet the locals didn't 'liberate' all that skiing and mountaineering stuff after the war. It would have been very useful to them.
Truly amazing Mike!! 💪🏻 great video!

Excellent exploration Mike!

Wow excellent fines and location

That chimney stack would have been at one end of a nissen type hut. Wasn't that artefact you picked up close to an early microphone remnant?
Why are these things not being preserved. It’s truly a shame.
unbelievable finds , super interesting video 👍

I'd love to come from Canada to metal detect.
You only live once!
These look like burn pits/piles. Everything just dumped and set alight before they clear off.
You could be right about that! Thanks for watching!
Awesome!
Glad you think so!
Mike jammer man dat je niet mocht zoeken maar wel mooie vondste groetjes van de Veluwe
geen probleem, het was leuk om er een kijkje te nemen

Wow. So many stuff
:-) bedankt Annemiek!
My god. Imagine if there was a pile of old helmets like the pile of gas mask canisters?
Mike, what brand of mosquito repellant are you using? I seriously need some like that man...
I took a DEET bath right before we went out! Musquitos and flies were a big problem there as you could tell looking at the outro.
It’s too bad that guy won’t let people dig out stuff because it’s all gonna be ruined & lost forever
Yeah I agree but it was fun seeing that all nonetheless

Did you collected any of those or just leave it?
We took some small items that fitted my pocket. The rest we just had to leave.
We’re you allowed to take any souvenirs?
The amount of stuff just lying about is flabbergasting!!
Is there any chance the authorities clean these trash sites?
That had the chance to do so the last 78 years and didn't. So they probably will never do it.
wow stock facility. Nearly too much...or?

According to our guide Ken the Germans left everything fleeing for the advancing Red army
