    My father-in-law just fell for a scam like this. He actually mailed $20,000 cash to an address in California and swears it wasn't his money to begin with. Luckily, the lady at the UPS store was suspicious and called the police. He has the money back, but still insists it's not his money as he watched the scammer put it into his bank account and he's just returning it. Really sad.

    I remember back in May stopping into a CVS for a snack while on vacation. I ended up intervening at the checkout counter to prevent a senior from falling for one of these scams he had inadvertently picked up while trying to buy some books (something about needing an eBay gift card to complete some transactions and the values involved made no sense). Nice fellow and he almost wanted to adopt me to look out for him for these sorts of things.
    Education really is the only way to combat this. Thank you.

      I had something similar happen at a Target. Oldster in the line ahead of me had a stack of gift cards... like 10 of them. The instant he asked for 500 (the max limit) on one I started laughing... HARD. The cashier and the oldster started looking at me so I asked, between gales of laughter, why he wanted five hundred on ten cards. He said it was to pay a bill to get his accounts in order after MS f*cked his banking up.
      That's when the cashier clicked in and halted the purchase. We explained that it was a scam and the man should go to his bank and make sure his accounts were in order, just in case, and send the scammers a bag of feces instead of cards.

      why can't stores be mandated to call a hotline for scams at the gift card section? Stores just don't care except to make money if they don't do this. I did see Target make a sign saying they're not giving out gift cards freely anymore, so that's a start. It just can't be one business though - it needs to be written in law!

    • @fullmoonshadow6967
      @fullmoonshadow6967 10 месяцев назад

      @@shaney02007 I wouldn't say they count. They're US only, and people world-wide get scammed daily. The FBI/CIA do not have rights or power to operate within another country without explicit permission from that country's government. A third-party group run by people like Pierogi is probably closer to what they mean. They're not government-run or funded, and are less likely to be seen as potential spies for another government, and because they're not run by said government, they can put however much of their own money into this as they please. If you've ever read r/scams, you'll likely know that the FBI will only take actions for scams exceeding losses of 1M or more. Another factor is anonymity. These people can have team members or colleagues that don't show up on public files for scammers to send PIs to track down, harass, and potentially frame for some crime to get them shut down. Being anonymous also means they can actually *do* the hacking of a scammer's PC. A government organisation trying to do this would likely spark war between two countries if information is butchered, or communications go sour over the actions made by the government-run organisation.

    As I recall you're in Texas. I had a call from supposedly a Sheriff Dept claiming I had missed my jury summons 4 months ago. In fact I did, which really concerned me, but as we went through the citation numbers and the difference between criminal and civil processes, we got to the posting of a Surety Bond, $3000 total. To post it would be via Paypal, and it was an individual account, not a business. This set me off. When I asked for badge ID and that I would call the local PD office, confirm and call him back, he got squirley. Supposedly then his Chief called me to verify him but this call came from VT, I'm in Dallas, TX. When I ask what country he was a Sherrif of, he said CHITVEN (capped for a reason) and when I pinned him down where is that, it's VT. I then asked why he would be serving any kind of legal summons or process in a different state, he hung up on me. Then the first office called me back claiming I hung up on him and oh how mad he was. Point is I didn't pay, but the fact that they have my phone number and I did miss Jury Duty concerns me there are crooks in the local court system. You should do a video on this one.

      Wow. 3 replies but nothing shows. Sanctions do not work, and if they do, it is the little people who suffer. Why Washington is not doing anything could be for 2 reasons. India is not hip to fix it because 50 billion dollars from the US yearly helps their economy. I will not mention bribes. Tangent; Russian oil is being refined and sold over there, so "global" is not important to some higherups

    For those wondering scammers got the idea of remote connections from legitimate companies. Here in the UK many years ago, I was a Virgin Media broadband customer. I had technical issues with my recently installed broadband. I called the number on the welcome letter. I was connected straight to their Indian call centre. The technician in India had to gain access to my computer to diagnose the fault. To cut the long story short, he found a fault with the wiring outside and had to call the installers to come and fix it. Mind you this was years ago and probably other big companies were doing this and scammers sensing an opportunity to make money, used this to their advantage. I don't know if any legitimate company is still using this method to diagnose issues 🤔

      The problem of scammers from India was fuelled by the big banks themselves, they had a small tick box on applications, allowing your data to be outsourced, to be processed abroad.
      Choosing India was a big mistake, culturally, historically, the massive disparity with income, hatred over generations for the British Empire.
      The banks are partly responsible, they need to admit that and reimburse the victims.
      Strange why they target America, that's sort of English :)
      There are a lot of English voiced scams in the UK, it's NOT always India.

I did a search on Google Maps and saw a picture of the same building on Gould Street that's shown in your video. I advised my niece not to respond. I investigated this company because I had never heard of them, and the office address they gave me was a mom and pop shop shipping store in LA. After digging 3 layers down, they came back to a registered agent in that building. Much of the "sales" process was the same tactics scammers use. They were also spoofing their number, and had Indian accents.

    Wyoming is known to business owners as to be one of the easiest states to create virtual businesses. When I started my business even I considered opening my LLC in Wyoming for anonymity purposes, to then open a business in California managed by my mother business registered in Wyoming. It’s super easy to slip through the cracks if you really wanted to do bad things. But for the most part that system is used to have branches of other businesses attached to one big managing business. For legit business owners it’s a way of protection from lawsuits so you don’t potentially lose everything at once, protection from scams/unwanted soliciting, etc.
    I regret not doing it that way cus now I get calls all the time and mail for credit cards, stuff sent to my business address that I don’t care about, etc.
