      I personally agree with change fees. You booked a flight, there should be a penalty for a last minute change. Delays happen, depending on the delay, you already should receive compensation per the current Passenger Bill of Rights.

      Sounds good on face value for sure. What I wonder is if your flight is cancelled, and refunded, then what happens when you have to buy another plane ticket. Maybe it has to be from another airline. If you bought your original ticket months ahead for a good price, now you're having to buy a new ticket the day of with a different airline. They will see it as a new sale, and would cost a lot more.

I used to work for the airline and it covers MOST customer complaints... especially the FEES... people don't realize there are fueling fees, taxes, that are NOT disclosed... we can tell them if they ask, but it primarily changes those fees per location you are traveling too and from...It really seems this is mostly to stop airlines from turning your cancelled fight by the airline... they are "automatically" making it a flight credit and NOT a refund, unless you call in and demand a refund...people don't show up for a flight due to weather... surprised they have a flight credit still 11 months later instead of a refund... most don't realize and just don't use their flight credit, not realizing they received no refund... which i feel is the point of this... next hopefully will be, when you CHANGE your flight, and the airline OWES YOU money because the newer flight is a LOWER cost... there is no requirement for them to even TELL you the new one is lower cost... or that if you ASK, i CAN put the "residual amount" on a new ticket... we are told not to do that... but we physically COULD... Even if your original flight was $580 and the new flight is only $190... I would be told i am not allowed to issue a credit, and it would HAVE to be an "even exchange".

    thank god!! this happened to me when I flew from Memphis to San Diego where my husband's ship was stationed. there was some big city event going on that weekend and EVERYTHING was overbooked - airlines, hotels, etc.... my husband's ship left, and I had no car because my husband had put his in long-term storage. it was a mess. I had spent all my money on the trip and was stuck there in the airport for 2 days. delta had canceled a flight - can't remember why - and had put me on standby until I could get picked up. I only had a roller bag for carry-on. fortunately, the airport USO totally took care of me - food, showers, lodging, otherwise, I would've had to sit in the airport waiting to fly standby on overbooked flights. it was still awful, but the USO made it bearable. I was also military, so I had benefits and options. but what if I wasn't!!! I also had pets and children at my home in Memphis that I was supposed to get back to on that Sunday night. it was very stressful.

My destination from Miami was Peru where I was to join a travel group to tour the country. Anyway, American Airlines and her sister carriers did not have a flight to Miami within the time to catch the Peru flight. I had to purchase a ticket from Delta for $730 to get to Miami and the Peru flight had to be rebooked for the next day (rebooking fee included). The out-of-pocket cost for me was $1700. American refused to refund me the Delta and Latam flights. American only refunded me $8 and it took four weeks to get my checked bag refund. American lost me as a customer!

    If I may just explain to you how I don't agree with this bill is.
    1.It's not about receiving a refund
    2. It's about getting to your destination and getting the next plane to your destination
    3. What he neglected to mention is Travel insurance , travel insurance needs to be a redesigned formula so that it can accommodate transfers/connections of less than 1 hour. It needs to accommodate also those who use points. Read the defined print on your travel Insurance It's basically useless.
    4. Most people try to find the most affordable plane ticket , so getting your money back doesn't get you on the next flight financially. Because most other flights are double the price.
    Basically he needs to be more worried about not having another disaster like southwest and accommodating guests to thier destination.
    No flights should be booked without a back up flight , delays or cancelations should be notified to the ticket holder well in advance.
    Hold the airlines accountable.

    Who do we call if your flight was canceled and they had a deverted flight to another city where you would have to rent a car to get to the city that was your end destination?!

    • @No-nameNo-name
      @No-nameNo-name 23 дня назад

      You can only by regulation get a refund for the untraveled portion of the flight, they are not required to pay you for the car and that is specifically outlined in federal regulation. flight "diversions" are usually considered a major schedule change... but just make sure to get a refund, and not a flight credit... that what these major changes are about. the system is set up to AUTOMATICALLY give you a credit, even though you are ENTITLED to a refund.

    • @ajs11201
      @ajs11201 23 дня назад

      What if this....what if that..... No regulation covers every possible scenario. This, however, is still a great improvement over what we have now--which is not getting so much as a penny's refund. As we used to say-- never let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

    The new rule requires a full automatic refund for delays more than 3 hours for any reason, so if you still need to fly home, don't want to get stuck at your destination, and don't want to rebook last minute at sky-high prices, remember to opt out and waive this or you might be out of luck. Second, This means the risk of poor weather, air traffic controller issues, or airport issues beyond the control of the airline, such as emergency air travel restrictions etc., is assumed by the airlines. Whenever a business assumes the risk for things beyond their control, they need pass that cost along to the consumer because it's essentially an insurance policy. Risk transfer is not free. That's essentially why there is an entire industry called the insurance industry. Part of the reason prices are going up is most policies this admin pursues are risk transfers to business for risks that they have no control in mitigating. And that drives prices higher, because the company has to raise prices to collect, what basically amounts to, an insurance premium. It would be better for accountability and consumers, if this rule was only for issues caused or under the control of the airlines. Instead it's an insurance policy your receiving, and you will pay more for it.

      By the airline, in MOST cases its a change of 2 to 4 hours or greater on any flight segment in any direction... if you START travel you are only entitled to the untraveled flight portions. The RULE, depends on WHICH airline. Delta requires a change of only 2 hours, American airlines policy is 4 hours.

      @@brentbeacham9691 I fly Delta because that gives the best customer experience in my opinion, but flights are usually at least 100-200 dollars more than other airlines. I’m in a position where I can afford to spend more but not everyone can. Even with Delta there was recently a 3 hour delay on a flight and all we got was a hotel voucher for overnight stays with no option to get to our final destinations that same day. So yes even the best airlines have scheduling issues.

    Hey pete. Next task should be cracking down on the trucking industry. The receivers and shippers have no problem charging truck drivers late fees . But if the driver shows up and time and they are delayed by the shipper/ receivers we don't get paid. It's a one way street with them.

  •  23 дня назад

    I sure wish the government would do the same for train travel especially now since it has grown in popularity. Amtrak is the worst with delays or any compensations. One instance traveling on the Northeast corridor from NYC to DC, the train had some issue (unclear). Stopped by Philly and announced train was out of service. Dropped everyone there and said see ya later. There was no help from the staff to re-book nothing. We ended up renting a car to drive rest of the way to DC.

    Thank you! This is exactly what happened to me. American used to give a fair credit when flights were significantly delayed (8+ hours) or cancelled flights. In the last couple years NOTHING. I had a flight I took regularly that was cancelled 3 out of 5 times and I got NOTHING until I complained and then they gave me a measly 5000 miles. Not even 5000 per cancelled flight, but 5000 miles. I am so happy to be retired now and not forced to use them. I am going to use up my miles and then only use them when it will save me hundreds of dollars on a flight which I don’t expect to happen.

    What does a refund do? Then if you still have to fly, you can rebook, but then you are paying a much higher airfare bc you are booking the day or week of. What's a pain with flying is weather. It's always canceled or delayed due to weather. You'd think with updated technology weather issues would become more of a thing in the past. I can drive my car in the rain, but we can't fly in the rain etc.
