- Mother Superior Dawn Marie of the Carmelite Nuns is speaking about the history of why the Carmelite Monastery closed down, and is also giving a statement on the Redemptoris Mater Seminary property in Yona.

I feel very close to the Carmelite order and Santa Teresa d'Avila's teachings are still compelling and alive. I pray for the Carmelites all over the world every day 🙏

This is like harassment of a vulnerable group of people who have prayed and helped the diocese spiritually and financially by the diocese by misappropriation of the property of the nuns for their own macho needs.

I started visiting a Carmel way back in the 1980s and it was lovely and peaceful. I loved the grill in the parlour. ..very Carmelite. Now, in this day and age the Grills have gone and the parlour is turned into a sitting room with a television set - I hate it. Also the nuns have modified their habit. I find it very sad that things have been so modernised to such an extent that I feel so uncomfortable visiting that Carmel.

In a nutshell could it have something to do with Vatican II? It seems that since the second Vatican so many holy orders have gone away and many churches (or parishes) throughout the world have closed. This Carmel would be a good, but sad, example of that. Nuns are very smart and this nun is brilliant....and it's so sad how whoever it was expected this nun to lie.

For example, if your mom said, 'If you come to mass, you can spend the rest of Sunday however you want.' You know by that she means you don't have to visit grandma like the rest of the family, but because of malice you start walking around naked around the house and say, 'But you said ...!' V2 allowed changes, but people made a lot of imprudent changes. By their fruits, you will know them. The fruits of imprudent changes made in the name of V2 are the challenges we are facing now.

After Vatican Council II, religious Congregations, religious cloisters and other forms of consecrated life that had been formerly supported by the Church were now to be dependent on providing for their own "temporal affairs" or become joined to other congregations or dissolved. This is why many congregations and monastic orders are selling honey, cards, fruitcakes, cards, vestments and other items including selling property and buildings in order to stay financial afloat. If there comes a time when a huge financial debt accumulates, the Church steps in and examines the "viability" of the congregation or monastic order and makes recommendations to the Sacred Congregation and the congregation or monastery must act accordingly. Right now, it is a very difficult time for many many congregations coping with hight elderly care and few people bringing in an income.

You're right. This has nothing to do with spirituality. This is about money. The hierarchy of the Church live like kings and if they need money, like, maybe to settle a huge sex abuse law suit, they take it from the convents, the monasteries and the schools. Then they plead poverty and expect the average lay person to contribute money they might not be able to spare.

This makes me so sick 😡! God's will be done on this whole situation.
I want to say that even though the religious community is ignorant to lgbt as being exempt from God's love I do agree in particular with many of the Spiritual beliefs held by the Carmelites.
In particular:
1. God can be heard in the silence.
2. God is love.
3. The Spirit permeates all of Creation and it doesn't have to be 'boring'. It can be wild and 'sexual' in its relations as well as loving and playful.
There are so many who are criticising them wrongly though saying they don't do service to the world.
It reminds me of that quote from a video game (Valkyrie Profile):
"Save? How do you think he might be saved? By being allowed to continue to live or by being chosen by me?"
This is the problem that I see with 'the world' in general. It sees only so little because it fights 'outwardly' and doesn't find anything but unrest. They spread the fear of death like the plague and keep people bound by it.
How can people live without conquering that fear? It's not living.
I won't say I've seen the Light of God but it seems close sometimes.
Anyone can find it, but I am afraid to say it isn't easy.
It's hard to talk about because people think you're trying to act like you're 'special'.
Like are you kidding? You get so much flak and hate and alienation for talking about these things.
Worse? Drugs (sedatives) which shut down the brain that they call 'medicine'. And it's for the reason it goes by the name 'medicine' and is considered 'Science' (there's no proof they work) that they are hailed so proudly as 'useful' and 'necessary treatments'.
They're anything but.
As for the 'gay' thing. I would argue that there were Saints who were but that is a bit of a hot button issue with the religious community.
Celibacy is not something you do for reward in an afterlife. I would argue it is a spiritual practice that is aimed at connecting with the soul and less with the body. That message I feel is lost however.
That particular thing was remarked about in a book about connecting with the Spirit. It is not meant to create fear or distress about sex or other 'sinful' activities.
It is all essentially about state of mind/consciousness. The practice of penitence is about addressing your thoughts which leave you out of alignment with love and ultimately God. (As far as I see it)

I respect the choices of these nuns. I do not understand how the Carmelites function in spreading the word of our Lord Jesus Christ. They pray for priests? Is that it. Sorry. Millions of dollars to live cloistered? The Bible does not sanction this behaviour, go out into the world, pray for and work with those who are so in need, spread the word of our Lord Jesus Christ in hope of redemption and salvation for those in ignorance.
