  • The Nuns are building a monastery to last a thousand years. Inspired by their Carmelite roots in Spain and the colonial architectural style of their local surroundings in Gettysburg, PA, the Nuns have chosen to use only the most traditional methods of stone laying and timber framing. Their goal is to provide a warm and loving home for our Beloved Lord, a place to honor and serve Him all the days of their lives.
Please consider supporting our dear Nuns and their project. Visit www.fairfieldcarmelites.org to learn more!

7:02 "I kept appealing to the architects that not just the obvious places should be beautiful. I want the janitor's room to be beautiful" is such a knowing and deep comment exemplifying this project.

I was thinking only the other day how I wish more people were building with love, faith and devotion as their guides, rather than money, convenience and greed. How wonderful places would look. Then I found this by chance today. God bless all involved. I would love to visit one day. 🙏🏻

This project has touched my heart! I am a new catholic convert and I say yes to building a catholic structure that will last many lifetimes - Truth goodness and beauty in a building! I am in tears, but of joy, to see something like this being built in a chaotic world! God bless the Carmelite sisters! Santa Teresa de Avila las guía desde el cielo!

Nice to see the horses. I am a lapsed catholic convert, need to get things set right. I live alone in a tiny home and farm and log with draft horses, my Gentle Giants. I do a lot of thinking about things, and this video also gives me much to ponder. If I lived close by I would volunteer my horses and my time to help them with the farming side.
If the sisters could say a little prayer for me I would appreciate it.

The power of whole-hearted, loving dedication to serving Jesus, to be being clear in one's divine purpose, persistent in carrying it out, and the power of architecture and sacred labor, all that and more demonstrated here. The nuns prayerful, loving focus of pray creates the chalice for the Lord to express and reach out far beyond them. Beautiful.

We tend to forget how the sacred spaces change us... that is why many of our catholic spaces have turned utilitarian and ugly and frankly, even disposable. Beauty and authenticity should be everywhere, not just in a chapel. I love this sacred geography!! :)

St. Paul: "I have planted, Apollo watered, but God gave the increase. Therefore, neither he that planteth is any thing, nor he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth, and he that watereth, are one. And every man shall receive his own reward, according to his own labour. For we are God's coadjutors: you are God's husbandry; you are God's building. According to the grace of God that is given to me, as a wise architect, I have laid the foundation; and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation no man can lay, but that which is laid; which is Christ Jesus." (I Cor. 3:6-11).

So, at this moment in history, we have artificial intelligence, quantum computers, CRISPER Gene-Editing, the James Webb Space Telescope, etc...; but we can no longer construct a Monastery building from stone?! 😂 Thank you, blessed Sistets, firstly, for having sacrificed your lives for Christ and His Mystical Body; and secondly, for your steadfast dedication to constructing a true Monastery, made only of stone and wood - to serve as both a sign of, and inspiration toward, that spiritual stability that comes from a life of prayer and work, in the silent, hidden life of the cloister. God Bless You!!!❤

This video expresses well the universal relationship between architecture and the quality of life of the humans who occupy it. Unfortunately, that genius then seems to turn immediately into a Pennsylvania Dutch/Amish way of life. Nice enough, for sure, but does not speak to most of us today. (But I'll bet those Pennsylvania Dutch/Amish nuns have exchanged horses and buggies for modern vehicles.)
