How 5 more minutes can turn into another hour. Very patient Robbie but your patience paid off! I'm still yet to catch a Murray cod but gotta be helpful to live in Melbourne and catch them. I'm all the way up in Canberra
Robbie nice Trout Cod and Murray Cod mate pretty fish. Once again the Queens reign supreme! Gotta love the action of the Queens it starts right at the handle brilliant mate.👍. Keep fishing and posting the videos it's the closest thing i've got to fishing at the moment.☹🤬 And "Fantasea" really lol😄😁
Australia's freshwater fish evolution is a lot smaller than in most other countries. For example the Trout cod and Murray cod are obviously recent divergent evolution products, both originating from the same ancestor not too long ago. Additionally the Golden perch, Silver perch and Macquarie perch all obviously have a common ancestor as well. Because of the great dividing range, no oceanic fish species on Australia's east coast were able to make it to become inland species, there are some brackish water species on the east side of the great dividing range, but generally all native species on the west coast of the great dividing range actually evolved from species that lived in the giant inland sea, when the ocean levels were higher in the past, pretty much the entire south western quarter of the Murray catchment system was a huge inland sea. As the ocean levels dropped over time, it became brackish and then fully freshwater eventually, and species that lived there either evolved into the new conditions, or died. A type of saltwater Cod that lived in that inland sea was essentially the common ancestor to both the Murray Cod and the Trout Cod. And some kind of saltwater perch was the common ancestor to the 3 common freshwater perch species we have. This is also why these species are native to the Murray catchment system, and nowhere else. The Golden perch in my opinion is one of the best fish in the world. As far as introduced fish, the Redfin and Trout are decent additions, but whoever brought in the Carp was an absolute dingbat.
Hey Tyson, we do not have Silver Perch in the river here. There may be an odd one, however I have never caught one here. I suspect they were from really small cod.
Hey Robbie, Just back from fishing Wyangla Dam (NSW) and just watched your new rod video. My Black Queen is 8ft long. It was a Chissy present circa 1967 and cost $13.20 - a small fortune in the day. You have encouraged me to get it out of moth balls and use it again. All the best Brian
Hey Robbie, you ever caught a carp or silver perch on cheese? We catch silvers on the cheese all the time at mcoys bridge in the golbourn river Love going back and watching the old vids that I’ve never watched before Love your content ❤❤
Thanks mate. Im not sure when I will get to go because of covid restrictions. I will miss trout opening, but not sure when I will get to go. At this stage it's mid September depending on how things unfold.
As a kid I used to fish in the King just upstream of there behind the old pioneer cemetery. The Chisholm St pool was also there, and was rebuilt on the old Principal's residence site. The bridge across the King went straight across the site of the old pool.
WOW My memory goes back but not quite that far. LOL I use to catch a lot of redfin in that area too. They're all but disappeared from down here these days, even though I released one back into Lake William Hovell back in 2013. Im still waiting for them to take over and stuff up the river. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey falla, ur a very enthusiastic character, im just turning in to ur channel! Just Watched your freshwater cray vido at the same location. Bridges are great fishing areas from the bird droppings that Nest underneath the bridges. You've earned My subscription. Grate job!
Hey Robbie your cheese seems to stay on your hook do you mind telling me what sort of cheese you use, i use mozzarella cheese it works really good but when I get a bite if I don't hook the fish the bait is always gone it just does not stay on the hook well, and so now I use raw chicken it works well and it stays on the hook a lot better
Hi Dave, it is tasty cheese mate. I find it works so mich easier this time of the year when the water is so cold. In summer the water softens the cheese but that doesn't seem to be a problem in August.
Hey Robbie when using cheese and baits that can easily fall off I tend to use a bait sock. They are like a little net that you push the bait in and tie it off then chuck it on your hook. They are very good for making sure the bait won’t fall off and are perfect for cod and carp fishing
Thanks David. I was using Tasty cheese. Strangely enough I find it much easier to use in the cooler months. In summer it goes soft and falls off the hook. This time of the year I dont have any problems.
Good to see that spot still has fish in there I know it gets heavily fished. Great to you out there still catching fish mate weather is bloody beautiful for it
@@robbiefishing I've fished there a few times back when I was living in Benalla and never got a touch. A old fella said to me you won't get nothing here it's been flogged out. Also told me to go under the bridge to have some luck so I did and it all paid off with carp LOL
Thanks mate. They're listed as endangered and are totally protected and must be released to the water unharmed. There are two lakes in my area that are stocked as a put and take fishery where we are allowed to take 1, however I have not caught one big enough and if I do, I am unsure whether my conscience will kick in and prevent me from killing it anyway, despite being legal. LOL I have often wondered what they taste like though. They are on the way back thanks to mountains of habitat work, fish stocking and research. Hopefully they can be downgraded from endangered to vulnerable some day so that maybe we can keep a feed.
Thanks mate. It really is a tough times, moreso for you guys down there. Have you got people to chat with? Family, friends etc... to try and break the boredom?
I've seen some quick bites on cheese before today. Cheese hadn't even hit the bottom and had a cod on. Pretty sure it hit him on the head as it hit the water...
I'm telling you Robbie cheese paste is the way to go rather than a cube of cheese. It isn't difficult to make, include some "blue cheese" in your mix to increase scent attraction. Slices of really cheap burger cheese rolled into little balls works well too.! 👍
At first sight I thought that was a GWS face mask......and my admiration of you went through the roof. But then my eyes kicked in...Hmmmm You're still alright Robbie.....LOL
Hi mate, I'm not sure where the name came from. They're a cod that typically lives in mid to upland waterways with cooler and clearer water. The old timers use to call them blue-nose. They're endangered and totally protected.
haha It would be the first time if I did fall in. LOL They are apart because of the current. If I kept them close together they would end up tangled. If the water was still and I could cast one left and one right it would be easier to keep them closer together.,

Gday Robbie mate just wondering what cheese you use? Cheers cob
Good one mate 👍👍👍👍👍 enjoyed that one

Grate fish on cheese. What was the weather forecast Robbie - fine with a light Bries???

Robbie. What type/name is your net?.
Hey buddy im nit sure of the name but I got it from Trellys in Shepparton.
robbiefishing Sweet. Thank you.
The trout cod must be making a fair comeback down there. They were fairly endangered a while back werent they?
Sure were mate, there's been a lot of hard work invested I to it, but they're making a great comeback now.

How does trout cod go on the BBQ or is that a no go zone!
They are fully protected you can only catch and release
Hey buddy they're totally protected apart from 2 waterways where they're rarely caught.
