    Good vid thanks . On my bucket list to target Cod in my kayak. I wonder if you could put a stinger hook on the bible without it interfering with swim action, perhaps upsize with owner trebles. In saying that they live in the timber so bigger hook size isn't ideal . Tight lines mate wish I knew where that was Goulburn R ?
    So they still eat winter time . Still getting my confidence up on the hobie .
    Nice river plenty of fish!

      Glad you enjoyed! They are a special fish that's for sure. Yeah don't want to make it any more snaggy the advantage the lure had is the way it navigates through the timber. And while it is easy enough to get a snag off in the kayak is easier to not be snagged but still be in the zone. Also the bull shad are very finely tuned so don't want to upset that too much. They certainly eat in winter time you'll get less numbers but better quality, the cold normally thins it the fisherman not the fish. I'm very fortunate to live near this river fish on every snag!

    That was some great fishing mate, being able to fool so many good ones. I wonder if the bib on that bullshad was possibly impacting the hookup on the front treble? The big whopper ploppers have certainly become popular this year for something different.

      It is days like this why we fish everything lined up nicely. Yes this is a possibility but it is this bib that makes is so good in the river. They are a pretty cool lure hopefully I can fool a big girl with it. Thanks for watching

    Learning lots from watching your videos Doug - what spots to look out for, where to cast etc. Thanks mate.
    A request for next time: can you write the names of the lures you use as part of the video description? Just the names would be fine - cause then I can search them up to have a look. Just a thought.
    Thanks again for putting the yards in and explaining what you do. Appreciate it, Steve

      Happy your getting something out of it Steve. Glad to share definitely not hard yards when I'm fishing! Yep I reckon I can do that great suggestion. Two lures that caught fish in this one were Deps evoke 4 and Mike bucca bull shad 4x4. Just sit down when you see the price. Haha

    Im loving the videos keep them up mate, wheres the best place to get the Bullshad im keen to get one how far down do they swim are they sinking or floating lure?

      Thanks mate 👍 I got mine direct from USA. If you google mike bucca bullshad. Got about 50cm deep on a long cast and are a slow float. However ive been adding a chin weight to make it slow sink and get down to about 1m only adding 1/4oz chin weight.
      Just sit down when you see the price 💰💰💰

      Thanks mate. I'm a sook when it comes to cold weather but having good warm gear makes it bearable. Good set of waders and gloves are essential, staying dry is half the trick in the yak. Hot tip is buy some of those hand warmers and stick in the back of your gloves. 👍

    Mate your using a swim bait made for large mouth bass. Get one made for the job, our Murray cod. Hook up rate may improve. Great vid.

      @DougKelly2828  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks glad you enjoyed! It's made for large mouth bass but there is no doubting our Murray Cod love it! I haven't found many other swimbaits I can fish in this style that's so snag resistant. Was strange this session normally it has a very good hook up rate.

    Are you running extra split rings on the front hook?

    • @DougKelly2828
      @DougKelly2828  5 месяцев назад +1

      I'm not. The real advantage of this lure is the way it rides over timber. I feel adding split rings may hang the treble a bit low and lose that advantage 🤷‍♂️ might have to look to doing it though. My first fix is going to be to set the hooks harder which is hard in the yak because with my drag locked when you strike it just pulls you toward the fish.

    • @42fishing69
      @42fishing69 5 месяцев назад +1

      I couple of extra snags in the kayak is easy to un snag. More hook up's on good fish worth the trade off. But that is just me 🤣

    • @DougKelly2828
      @DougKelly2828  5 месяцев назад +1

      @42fishing69 I'd definitely like more hooks ups haha. I haven't had this issue with it before so I'm gunna try setting the hooks harder first then I may have to give the split rings a go. Thanks for the suggestion 👍

    Do you change the hooks out on those bullshad? I know a lot of swim bait guys out here love to run owner st-41 hooks. I don’t run big swim baits, but I do live and breathe owner hooks.

    • @DougKelly2828
      @DougKelly2828  5 месяцев назад +2

      Yes! As with most high end swimbaits built overseas they are definitely not cod strong out of the box. I always do a flex test on the trebles of I can flex them I change them. From memory I was using BKK hooks here.

      It was a 190mm river to sea whopper plopper which is the og for this style of lure. Got it out of America and I'm determined to get a cod on it.
