Great vid mate
Thanks 👍
Sick season well done! As i would say "they were going off" love the low water myself
Certainly helps fish structure more thoroughly when in the kayak and while it can slow the fish down a bit it also narrows down the spots they can hide.
@DougKelly2828 yes absolutely it concentrates the fish into the deeper holes
awesome video, just a question what is that yellow and pink lure called?
Thanks Archie. It's a kuttafurra mudhoney 100mm. Great quality Aussie made lure. 👌 perfect for banging against the timber. And added bonus it's timber. 👍
Hey mate i am guessing you wouldnt like your stops known, but that very much looked like the Macquarie river near Wellington, i could be wrong but it matches up because ponto falls is close to there and it looks like it
Looks can be deceiving! 👍
@@DougKelly2828 oh fair just looks realllyyy similar. Great sessions tho
I fish that system regularly but not in that area. This gem, however, is not that river. Thanks for watching👍 I do my best not to give away location as I don't want them flogged out for myself but mainly as it may be someone elses honey hole. The point of the content is to share my knowledge and experiences, not my location.
@@DougKelly2828 💪🙌
That is a great session well done
Was good to get on the water. Things have been slow in the river so it's nice to get on foot and chase some smaller cod
Im loving the videos keep them up mate, wheres the best place to get the Bullshad im keen to get one how far down do they swim are they sinking or floating lure?
Thanks mate 👍 I got mine direct from USA. If you google mike bucca bullshad. Got about 50cm deep on a long cast and are a slow float. However ive been adding a chin weight to make it slow sink and get down to about 1m only adding 1/4oz chin weight. Just sit down when you see the price 💰💰💰
Nice video mate. It is my first season of COD fishing ! I enjoy watching your videos. Little question about your GoPro. You are currently recording but you pressing the recording button again when you catch a fish. What kind of settings is that ? Thanks mate
Thanks mate glad you enjoy. Be careful Cod fishing is very addictive haha. The feature is called hindsight. Probably best to google it as I'll butcher the explanation. Pretty much Gopro is always recording but when I press the button it only takes the previous 30 seconds and forward. Save a heap of room on the memory card. I've noticed I lose a lot of fish as I'm pressing the button 🤔 not sure if it's coincidence or that I might lose some pressure on the fish🤷♂️
@@DougKelly2828 thank you so much for your answer mate. I’ll have a look
All good. Are you using a Gopro?
@@DougKelly2828And yeah I from Switzerland and fishing over there it’s quite different. But fell in love with COD fishing. I’m from Wangaratta so I fishing in the Ovens river.
@@DougKelly2828 yeah I got the GoPro 10. So still try to figure it out what are the best settings for fishing
Good stuff man! Managed to still pull a couple fish in tough conditions. Good vid man!
They can't all be good days or everybody would do it. Glad you enjoyed!
Not what you were hoping for, but some nice fish nonetheless. Nice lure too. And thanks for including the bird nest at the end! Makes me feel a little better about the mess I’ve been making lately with my distracted casting :)
Thanks for watching! I was a bit negative in the video had the flu coming on hard, considering its winter and size of the lures it's probably an average day. Haha we all do them I was just glad the lure floated would have been an expensive cast 😅
❤😂😂🎉
Enjoyed this video Doug - as you said, less fish but bigger ones. Getting close to that metre mark. And the 78cm cod was pretty chunky! Some really cool fish there. Steve
Glad you enjoyed 👍 just gotta keep casting the big one will come. Fish are in great condition at the moment
The only recommendation I'd give is slow down your retrieve it's way to fast
Thanks I'll give it a go. Although the fish didn't seem to mind 😂
@@DougKelly2828 yea I've found that with yellowbelly and cod I slowed my retrieve down and I actually started catching heaps more fish and bigger fish to
Massive!
Good vid thanks . On my bucket list to target Cod in my kayak. I wonder if you could put a stinger hook on the bible without it interfering with swim action, perhaps upsize with owner trebles. In saying that they live in the timber so bigger hook size isn't ideal . Tight lines mate wish I knew where that was Goulburn R ? So they still eat winter time . Still getting my confidence up on the hobie . Nice river plenty of fish!
Glad you enjoyed! They are a special fish that's for sure. Yeah don't want to make it any more snaggy the advantage the lure had is the way it navigates through the timber. And while it is easy enough to get a snag off in the kayak is easier to not be snagged but still be in the zone. Also the bull shad are very finely tuned so don't want to upset that too much. They certainly eat in winter time you'll get less numbers but better quality, the cold normally thins it the fisherman not the fish. I'm very fortunate to live near this river fish on every snag!
Great vid mate , shame a few got away from you . What river is that ?
Thanks. That's fishing you can't catch them all
@DougKelly2828 absolutely. Can you please tell me what river that is or is it a secret ?
@gato8695 happy to share the content but I won't share the location. Anyone else is welcome to though👍
Nice vid mate. Did you manage to snag that bull shad in Australia?
Thanks mate👍 no ordered direct from bull shad website usa.
What was the white swim bait lure called
Bull shad 4x4👍
Are you running extra split rings on the front hook?
I'm not. The real advantage of this lure is the way it rides over timber. I feel adding split rings may hang the treble a bit low and lose that advantage 🤷♂️ might have to look to doing it though. My first fix is going to be to set the hooks harder which is hard in the yak because with my drag locked when you strike it just pulls you toward the fish.
I couple of extra snags in the kayak is easy to un snag. More hook up's on good fish worth the trade off. But that is just me 🤣
@42fishing69 I'd definitely like more hooks ups haha. I haven't had this issue with it before so I'm gunna try setting the hooks harder first then I may have to give the split rings a go. Thanks for the suggestion 👍
Not a problem
That was some great fishing mate, being able to fool so many good ones. I wonder if the bib on that bullshad was possibly impacting the hookup on the front treble? The big whopper ploppers have certainly become popular this year for something different.
It is days like this why we fish everything lined up nicely. Yes this is a possibility but it is this bib that makes is so good in the river. They are a pretty cool lure hopefully I can fool a big girl with it. Thanks for watching
Learning lots from watching your videos Doug - what spots to look out for, where to cast etc. Thanks mate. A request for next time: can you write the names of the lures you use as part of the video description? Just the names would be fine - cause then I can search them up to have a look. Just a thought. Thanks again for putting the yards in and explaining what you do. Appreciate it, Steve
Happy your getting something out of it Steve. Glad to share definitely not hard yards when I'm fishing! Yep I reckon I can do that great suggestion. Two lures that caught fish in this one were Deps evoke 4 and Mike bucca bull shad 4x4. Just sit down when you see the price. Haha
Was that surface a chase bait drunken mullet
It was a 190mm river to sea whopper plopper which is the og for this style of lure. Got it out of America and I'm determined to get a cod on it.
I thought this was going to be the metery. They sure had some good condition on them.
Still waiting! I thought it was 120cm when it hit the lure 😳
Mate your using a swim bait made for large mouth bass. Get one made for the job, our Murray cod. Hook up rate may improve. Great vid.
Thanks glad you enjoyed! It's made for large mouth bass but there is no doubting our Murray Cod love it! I haven't found many other swimbaits I can fish in this style that's so snag resistant. Was strange this session normally it has a very good hook up rate.
Do you change the hooks out on those bullshad? I know a lot of swim bait guys out here love to run owner st-41 hooks. I don’t run big swim baits, but I do live and breathe owner hooks.
Yes! As with most high end swimbaits built overseas they are definitely not cod strong out of the box. I always do a flex test on the trebles of I can flex them I change them. From memory I was using BKK hooks here.
@@DougKelly2828 really enjoying this completely new to me fishing haha. Like hardcore bass. Awesome! Keep posting videos and I’ll keep watching for sure!! Also from a yak makes it even better!
@codycutshall2721 thanks man!
Well done mate bloody cold though what river you in all the best 👍 😊😊
Thanks mate. I'm a sook when it comes to cold weather but having good warm gear makes it bearable. Good set of waders and gloves are essential, staying dry is half the trick in the yak. Hot tip is buy some of those hand warmers and stick in the back of your gloves. 👍
Another great video mate. I do all my fishing walking the bank, so I might go and grab some of those Bait junkies. They look the goods for hits and strikes. Thanks for the tip! Steve
Thanks Steve! I wasn't enjoying it at first the other day, battling through the scrub. However it's such an effective way to fish that first couple of metres of the bank in a way you can't from a kayak. Big tick for the bait junkies just can be very frustrating on the weedless with hook ups. Lock drag, strike hard! 👍
That’s what you call a nice day at the office 😂😂👍👍👍
Haha and the best part it was a Wednesday! Had big rain on the farm and had been going for a few weeks straight so took the chance to go recharge the batteries.
Hook the treble into the bottom section… that’s how I’m fishing with something similar
Thanks I'll give it a go👍 I reckon they get a lot more bites mainly because I'm not scared to let it go deep into the structure however missing the bites is very frustrating. The few good fish I've caught on them never miss though so I'm probably just missing the rats.
Some brilliant fishing there. Loved the 83cm beauty! Steve
Thanks Steve👍 glad you enjoyed. Can't quite see it on the footage but as I cranked the lure I could see her head appear from under the log and come barrelling toward the lure. Thats when I knew I was in strife. 😂
@DougKelly2828 that's gold! That would've been pretty spectacular
That has to be intense fun ..You make it look easy.
This is why you do it. Days like this are special, just lucky to be at the right place at the right time doing the right thing.
Very cool fishing spot, friends, Thank you for the video, it is very useful for sharing your experience,
Glad you enjoyed 👍
Wow those things have got some striking power....when they surprise you with a hit like that next to the yak it must be a real kick haha great vid
You'd hate to be whatever they are having for dinner! When they want it they get it. Built like a farm tractor low geared and powerful! Thanks for the comment👍
So cool to see. Great video mate. Steve
Thanks 👍
This is one of the better compilations i have seen of visual Murray Cod hits, boofs, and swipes. It's like a drug that keeps you coming back. I find when I am unable to fish or just thinking about fishing at home, watching these kind of vids or my own is enough to get me motivated to get back out there. It is also very interesting to review their behaviour around the lure.
Thanks Michael! Two of the reasons I wear the GoPro. Re watching and sharing with my kids and seeing the way they take a lure. Can you imagine being a little duckling 🐥 💥 proper scary stuff.
He was at least 24" and bout ,mmmmm 15 maybe 16 pounds ,😂
🤣🤣 whatever all that means. I'll have to go ask my grandfather
No idea what any of that means 😂😂
Hectic session brother well done!!
Thanks man, sessions like these make the tough ones worth it.
That is an awesome session I wish my rivers were like that. Well done and l would be gone surface earlier
This river is in top condition and a lot of people doing the right things helps. Hard to beat that surface strike ey!
Doesn't really matter
No truer words spoken 👏
Great session out, enjoyed this vid. My type of fishing
I enjoyed making it. Fish were switched on and so many visual eats. Glad you enjoyed 👍
Great video. Love the accurate casting, and seeing so many Cod. What a brilliant session! Steve
Thanks Steve! Was a session to remember so cool getting those visual bites. The non accurate casts don't make the final edit 😉😂 thanks for the comment!
Haha, yep, but there's enough right on target casts to make me realise I've got a bit of work to do. Looking forward to your next video.
@user-fh4ji6tn6h after the amount of casts I have done I hope to be able to land them where I'm aiming 👍 certainly is a part of the recipe to getting more fish.
Buggar 😢
Almost the word I used 😂
80+
It's these fish doing these things that haunt you. 😳 She pretty much had her nose sitting on the back treble.
What were this birds making all those noises, I’m from Canada so I have no idea but they sound a lot cooler then the birds we have here haha
Cockatoos and kookaburras mainly
If you get a flock of cockatoos sitting above you while you drift it can be deafening and drive you mad! Hard to beat the sights and sounds of the river.
Did you know your paddle was upside down and good vid
I'll be damned. I could feel it was paddling funny didn't know it had a left and right. I very rarely need to use it normally 😅 thanks for the comment plenty of talk in this one as the fishing was steady.
Good video mate…me young fella went down same spot Saturday morning and got 3 in the low 60’s👍
Lol if you are not sure have the written the right way around.
@corywilliams7125 yes it'll be my last trip there for awhile great spot but getting a little too popular for my liking.
WOW What awesome footage. 👍👍
Moments like these are why I wear the GoPro
What's your rod and reel combo mate ?? And good footage man love that feeling of getting a cod of any size 👍
Glad you enjoyed. I use 2 miller cod freaks and diawa tatula 200 and shimano curado 200. 50lb braid 60lb leader. Can't beat that feeling such a cool fish!
Makes you wonder about why and how the Cod ate the can... Hope it lives. You would think that digested food could still slip past the can edges in the belly and get to the intestine, where nutrients will be absorbed...
All I can think is she must have been in some mood when she ate it. Would love to know what flavour it was haha. Hopefully she can regurgitate it, the fact that she still ate my lure tells me she isn't feeling too bad. I'd can't imagine they digest turtle shells so they must have the ability to spit it back up.
Yes the appetite for you lure is a good sign@@DougKelly2828
A couple of questions, what river, or area are you fishing? What is your kayak?
Hey mate. Central West NSW. I'll let you work out the river. Kayak is a Hobie outback.
New here, you should do a tackle segment cslled "the casting couch"
🤣🤣
Excellent video, I really enjoyed this. So much action and some lovely fish. I wonder if that cods stomach acids will break down that can? I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Its illegal to sell the fish we catch, but if that was in the slot size limit you could have got 10c for it at the recycling centre. Haha 🤣👍👍
Thanks Robbie! Not too sure hopefully she can find a way to regurgitate it. Must have been in some mood when she ate it, surprised she didn't crush it then.
@@DougKelly2828 As you said "grubs". It's not hard to take your rubbish home hey!
