According to historians, Henrique wasn't probably even a good navagator himself LOL But he certainly encouraged and sponsored navegation at that time. Maybe the only one who to do it so systematically. About Columbus, he firstly tried to convince the Portuguese king to sponsor his voyage to "India" through the Atlantic. But the Portuguese king didn't believe (and rightly so) it was possible to go to India through the Atlantic. Only then did Columbus ask the Spanish king to sponsor him. Also, Columbus studied in Portugal for seven years. Portugal was THE hot spot back then
I believe he was one guy searching an opportunity to be rich. The Portuguese had already the knowledge enough from past travels to know that there was a continent in between, which made it impossible to reach India directly. Columbus failed totally, ending poor and miserable in his last days. Even when he was the ruler of Sto Domingo, he turned to be brutal and dictatorisl, thus failing to gain the respect of his mates and forced to return to Spain.
@@chrisplusmelissa Columbus was married to Filipa de Moniz, the daughter of Isabela Moniz and Bartolomeu Peresstrelo, the first Governor of Porto Santo. (Small island near Madeira) He was married to Filipa in Lisbon in 1479 or 1480. It is said that it was from Madeira island that Columbus got the idea of traveling west to get to India whilst watching some ocean debris floating westward due to the prevailing winds and tides.
Hey there, we were first to watch today's video! So relaxing to see the landscape free of snow cover. Great views of the countryside. Thank you for letting us tag along.
Very timely! We arrived in Lagos today, very glad to see your perspective. Off to the beaches of the Algarve for us. Glad you made it to the end of the world and back again!
15:12 The Portuguese waters are one of the most busy in the entire world given the location, although you generally don't see them since they don't go nowhere near the coast (except on the ports) because strong currents and upwelling.
Here in MA USA we have a park on the seashore called World’s End. It a geography feature called a doldrum. The horizon as you look out on its pan and water you see a curved horizon like you are going to fall off the end of the globe. I am looking in Portugal vs Panama for retirement appreciate your videos!
Thank you for the sensational and “fantasticational” video … it showed us how great is Portugal, specially with your good sense of humor, you two! Thank you for bringing America to Portugal in this beautiful way, we all grow up like this, happy. I always learn something in your videos, those statues near the houses, the blowing ocean underneath, next what will be? Try going to a flea market in Porto, Lisbon, Algarve, maybe this could be fun, what could you find?😂
My goodness, that was fun! Very enjoyable watching you two courageous explorers on your trip to the end of the world. I found myself wondering what the temperature was that day--.it looks perfect!

You're too obsessed about a navigator that did nothing for Portugal and wasn't part of portuguese discoveries' generation. And he might have or might have not sunk on our shores, that's not an undisputable fact.
You both are very friendly! The Algarve is just too beautiful!! Thank you for visiting my country! Regards from Germany!
More Portugal, Love this. We are Arriving in April! 2wks Algarve, Obidos & Lisbon! Can't wait! Looking to see about retirement!

It’s been proven that Columbus is Portuguese. He was born in Cuba, Portugal.

My stunning Algarve. Why do you think there's so many foreign people around here?
Traveling the globe and logged yet another long staircase under your belt....BTW, hiking up hill also counts as staircases..
There are so many staircases around the world -- it's unbelievable! 😅
