      @@Mike-pv3hg Lmao no. Jiu Jitsu isn't a good base for wrestling, because 95% of jiujitsu is grappling. In wrestling if you pin someone's back to the mat you win. That's silly considering you can get chocked out even if their back is to the mat. They're both useful and work well together.

      That how catch wrestling came to be. When Japanese juijitsu met ORIGINAL catch wrestling ( most likely no submission). But in 1930s and 1940s double wrist lock/kimura and body scissors/guard were used in amateur wrestling. If you want to say it originally came from Japanese fine with me. But there was a EARLIER style called Lancashire up and down fighting which DID have submission. Although mostly neck crank, strangle, and full nelson.

      @certifiedredditgenius 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@kom452 Not a wrestler but I hope this helps: as a BJJ guy, you no doubt know the importance of hips on the ground. For shrimping, control, etc. its more or less your base once it hits the mat. On the feet, its the same thing but BJJ guys don't really practice takedowns or understand the importance of the hips. If you've ever rolled with a grappler, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, their takedowns are much much better. Even in a clinch, they feel the way you're moving or rotating and can counter it very effectively. That's why its easier to transition from wrestling to BJJ than the other way around, you don't have the muscle memory of how that all works.

Wrestling was the very first primal martial arts that everything else evolved from. One thing to point out, which I think we take for granted in the USA. Our wrestling programs. Think about it. Most wrestling programs are absolutely free and provided as part of school sports or programs in the Boys and Girls Club. In contrast, how much do you think you would have to pay a Jiu-Jitsu academy overtime to be competent in that disciple? Probably thousands. Great job guys👍

      Very well put. From my experience, nothing beats straight wrestling for control or strength/conditioning. That is why wrestling is so damn good in MMA, they can control you from top position and just rain hell. By contrast, BJJ is much much more about rolling for an extended length of time (slow twitch rather than fast twitch), not burning yourself out, and using technique rather than strength. Submissions are mostly from BJJ and that's how you finish fights, not by pinning someone. Both are important but for sheer versatility, wrestling is the best base for MMA.

      Well there is a form of competition that COMBINED amateur wrestling with submission. That catch wrestling. But with MORE submission. Including catch style crossface, face lock, etc. Pin or submission.

    We had to run 5 miles, then do synchronized high rep weight lifting for 30 minutes before we could do warm ups to start practicing.
    I don't know about anyone else's experience, but I feel like that took care of the conditioning aspect of wrestling real quick

    20 years of BJJ and 3 years of freestyle and greco and on my first years of BJJ, I was already asked my bjj instructors to ton it down. I also realize how easy BJJ warm ups are compare to wrestling.
    Just yesterday, our BJJ instructor asked us, one more time, ONE MORE TIME, to tone down the intensity. I'm about to burst into explosion.

      why is that "dirty"? if they agree to submissions to begin with, it's a perfectly legitimate submission. and a very efficient one. hell, even Aikido has wristlocks :) (whether they practice them properly is another story)

    start your kids in wrestling at 5/6 years old, around 12/13 start the BJJ training.... They will have a great base, and the BJJ scrambling they learn will translate to their middle school and high school wrestling careers very well!
