Anybody that gets inside the octagon deserves respect. Most people wouldn't even want to fight a person even if they were guaranteed to win, or if no one else would see it. The mental toughness required to get in there and risk getting knocked out or submitted or embarrassed in any way is huge. People look at fighters like they're just another kind of athlete, but they really aren't. The thrill of victory and the sting of defeat are multiplied by 10 , compared to regular team sports or other individual sports. Losing a fight can be catastrophic for your self esteem and your psyche, especially if you get dominated or lose in a humiliating way. When you talk about MMA or UFC online, you always have to remember that it's easy for unathletic keyboard warriors to talk shit sitting in front of a screen at home. Askren gets a lot of hate online, and his personality makes him unlikable, but the people disparaging him online wouldn't say a word to his face, I guarantee it.
He also came into the ufc with injuries that should have retired him and still beat robbie, one of the baddest dudes on the planet after taking a beating that would have put a diaz out.

He talked a lot of trash he didn't back up, but when hes sitting down relaxing, and you ask him about other fighters, hes pretty respectful and has a lot of good things to say. I think its ok to trash talk, as long as you keep it towards only the person you are fighting at the time, and don't cross the line, talking about family members etc.

Anybody that gets inside the octagon deserves respect. Most people wouldn't even want to fight a person even if they were guaranteed to win, or if no one else would see it. The mental toughness required to get in there and risk getting knocked out or submitted or embarrassed in any way is huge. People look at fighters like they're just another kind of athlete, but they really aren't. The thrill of victory and the sting of defeat are multiplied by 10 , compared to regular team sports or other individual sports. Losing a fight can be catastrophic for your self esteem and your psyche, especially if you get dominated or lose in a humiliating way. When you talk about MMA or UFC online, you always have to remember that it's easy for unathletic keyboard warriors to talk shit sitting in front of a screen at home. Askren gets a lot of hate online, and his personality makes him unlikable, but the people disparaging him online wouldn't say a word to his face, I guarantee it.

He also came into the ufc with injuries that should have retired him and still beat robbie, one of the baddest dudes on the planet after taking a beating that would have put a diaz out.

Paul hasn't actually boxed anyone you would even remotely consider a fighter even if Ben isn't a striker he's only been knocked out once in his life and according to him that was also the only time he's ever been rocked in the first place. And I say all of that to say the only thing we know about Jake Paul is that he's trained hard for the last 3 or so years but you don't learn how good someone is by fighting scrubs. We don't learn how good a NBA basketball player is by playing a middle schooler. The people he fought didn't really train beyond a few weeks for the fight that they were fighting. So the only idea we have that he's good is the videos he puts out of him training but training and having an actual fight against someone who knows what it's like to get punched in the face is different.
