I've never believed in the whole defense wins championship thing. I think both sides of the ball have to be well oiled to get to the top just ask the pre John gruden Bucs with dungy
Bengals may be the most well coached teams in the league. The coaches make game changing adjustments and the players execute them very well on both sides of the ball. They’ve gotten this far on total team execution rather than depending solely on the performance of a few players. The defense doesn’t have big names but they definitely have playmakers at each level. Over 3 playoff games this defense has 6 turnovers, all interceptions. 3 by DBs, 2 by LB’s, and 1 by a D Lineman. Whats even more impressive is not one player has more than 1 pick. 6 picks by 6 different players at 3 different levels. Lastly, 5 of 6 interceptions has come in the second half. 3 of which came in the 4th quarter/OT and directly led to a Bengals victory.
The Bengals are well coached on all three phases of the game. Their offensive play caller Brian Callahan works hand in glove with Zac Taylor and they put Joe Burrow in the best situation to get the ball out to the open receiver. The defensive coach in Lou Anarumo is one of the best in game adjustment coaches I have ever seen. Then lastly their Special teams coordinator Darrin Simons is the longest tenured coach on the team, and he gets the most out of his kickers, punt returners and gunners. This Bengals team is very well coached.
Long time Pats fan here. I loved watching the Bengals in the playoffs this year. I want to see them go all the way! They are going to be a force next year as well. Burrow is special.
That's great coaching, on a strategic and tactical level. The fact that the Bengals were able to get pressure on mahomes with a 3 man rush shows good defensive line practicing, and the fact that they were able to make play by play adjustments to a known concept shows great play recognition.
Its not like the Bengals haven't flexed 3 man rushes throughout the season. They have done it against the Titans and Raiders at a much lower rate and more towards zone. As you saw in the video the DC Lou Anarumo was playing around for the ideal look in the first half despite getting burned and then he finally got that one look that beats the one play the Chiefs have been running in the first half. Also compounded was Mahomes visible frustration of settling for the smaller pass plays so he holds the ball longer to try get a chunk play going. Which ultimately plays into the Bengals coverage dropping 8 and letting Hendrickson attack Orland Brown Jr's overrated ass.
@@t4d0W good points. However I must says that the key to that chiefs offensive concept is Kelce. Taking out Kelce, mahomes typical first target, and his unwillingness to search for other targets off the snap, and the tight zone coverages the Bengals eventually ran is what caused mahomes to look like a complete idiot that day. Plus the complete lack of a credible running game. I'm sure the Bengals didn't run 3 rush sets against the Titans a whole lot, with derrick Henry back there. But the chiefs running game is a joke compared to the other playoff teams, and their ability to create the short passing game hides this. Until playoff time
@Timothy Higgins the reason for this was the second half of your statement. Mahomes has shown plenty willingness to go to other receivers. This go back to bad playcalling, the key for the chiefs after the bengals adjustments was to run the damn football, but because Reid can be so stubborn and unwilling to run the football that’s wht led to the collapse. Getting McKinnon more touches would’ve taken pressure off mahomes and forced the bengals to drop someone from the secondary, freeing them up to go back to the pass game.
Its important to note that the Bengals are down a LB that is meant for coverage (ADG), and their other LB (Logan Wilson and Germaine Pratt) are both former safeties. Vonn Bell is also an undersized LB. Noted in the video, Sam Hubbard can do a lot pretty well. The versatility on the Bengals defense is what allowed them to out maneuver the Chiefs. It wasn't that they did anything very very well, its that the Chiefs couldn't keep up with their adjustments.
The safety position doesn't get talked about but can I shout out bates here. His player development came a long way, throughout these playoffs been playing his best football.

Two other points I would add to this: 1. Mahomes relies heavily on raw talent in place of fundamentals and IQ. That has enabled him to make some incredible unorthodox plays, but also led to some bad and costly mistakes, like that last pass directly into double coverage. 2. The Chiefs O-line noticeably faded over the second half and allowed a lot more pressure on Mahomes than in the 1st half.

I don't believe for a second the Chiefs threw this game but they definitely gave it away. Bengals couldn't even slow the Chiefs in the first half, and then the Chiefs stopped running, receivers dropped passes and Mahomes regressed to playground ball in the second half. Bengals made adjustments and the Chiefs did not respond. Chiefs were out coached and it feels like Reid is regressing to the mean...same patterns and outcomes that eventually got him fired in Philly.

@@Chrisd0ntmiss I also watch the Bengals every week. Wilson is not a bad coverage linebacker. It's one of his strengths. I can’t remember what week it was that I became a Lou believer. It may have been the goal line stop vs the Jag on TNF or maybe the Packers game or something else. I just remember seeing him interview with Dave Lapham one week this season and thinking: “Yeah, this is the right guy at DC.”
They didn’t make adjustments mahomes even said he’s just started to play bad
@@Dontcare523 did you even watch the video? He literally showed you the adjustments. Lmao
@@Dontcare523 did you watch the video or just comment?
@@Dontcare523 you definitely came straight to the comment section without taking one look at the video huh? 📹 🤔
Bengals was the smarter team to me
Two other points I would add to this:
Most underrated defense in football. They consistently make the right adjustments and turn the tide of games
Wow! Great breakdown. Magicler!
Thanks!
You becoming my favorite channel this was needed bro yo thank you so much 🧡❤️🧡❤️🖤🧡🖤
Appreciate you brother!
this is like my baseball state tournament this last year. I play for a team in a small town that is only known for their big Oktoberfest celebration. We came in to the tournament and we beat almost every team from the big cities. It was a awesome experience even though we got second
Very possibly a key overlooked factor that gives the Bengals exactly what they need to win! Football doesn’t need superstars IF everybody remains disciplined. Tom Brady has defenses like this that hugely contributed to his success, which is what made him and bill belichick such a great combo!
Excellent breakdown !
Thank you!
This is super high quality
Thank you!
The Cheifs: The Dynasty of 1 Super Bowl 🤣
I’ll take a ring in 4 tries . If you guys take the l it’s back to the drawing board , don’t get cocky you’ve never won anything noteworthy
The Bengals truly have true grit.
(True grit: passion & perseverance)
Yes they do!
The Cheifs offense can get really one dimensional and stalls out alot. Toss in EB not knowing how to use the run game
He sucks. And people wonder how he doesn’t have a job. Matt Nagy 2.0.
Facts
this is a philosophical standpoint plus how they are built andy reid believes in winning with the pass game and the chiefs are built to win thru the pass
@@jameshoops10 You have to take what the defense gives you... that's why the Patriots became a dynasty, it's all about attacking the weakness of the defensive scheme...that means running the ball like they should have
@@3nduranc3 their personnel also shifted as well, the chiefs have dbl down on who they are and i don’t expect that to change
Thank you. Finally someone breaking down the science of football instead of just saying "it's fixed". Bengals figured out how make Mahome ineffective, just like they did the 1st game. They deserve to be in the super bowl. Who dey!
Thanks Vic!
Best INTRO OF ALL TIME
Thank you! That music gets me fired up even though I've listened to it a bazillion times
These playoff have been so good. So many close games, so many upsets, so much defense!
This has felt like a special year overall, the regular season was fantastic
@@AlexRollinsNFL Nah I disagree. Would've been a good year if the Seahawks didn't absolutely suck!
Good vid
Top notch analysis. Subbed
Thank you
Shout outs to Bengals DC "Big" Lou Anarumo. Its good that all the attention has gotten to Joe Brrr but in terms of overall consistency, Lou has got the Bengals D adjusting and making opposing offenses pay for their mistakes throughout the playoffs. There aren't any elite stand out names but as a whole the group executes the adjustments well. From all the drop 8s they have been doing all year to and even their safety play help.
Great job once again Alex
Thank you so much Marc!
Pretty solid break down Alex
This was a masterclass. Outstanding breakdown. Who Dey!!!
Thank you!
As a Lions fan, I'm so happy for you Bengals, I was pulling for you guys in your entire playoff run.
That end of half stand felt like a tide turn to me, I had a feeling the 2nd half would be really good.
Hopefully y’all are next!
Logan Wilson is actually very good in coverage lol
Good stuff!
Thanks!
😭😭😭 I did want to know how this happened but I also did! Thanks Alex!
Sorry Moises! You got the whole crew coming back next year 💯
The adjustments Lou Anarumo made against Kansas City were brilliant. He’s a great defensive coordinator and thankfully he’ll stay in Cincinnati.
You would think the Chiefs would learn. The Bengals did the exact same thing to them in the regular season. 😆
Lol Logan Wilson is amazing in coverage. Check his numbers
Played linebacker in college and if my coach’s would have given us guidance on how to break down plays like this I feel like I could of been even better. Thank you for doing this it is very insightful!
Appreciate that! Where did you play?
@@AlexRollinsNFL Malone university we were so bad they don’t have a football team anymore 😅
ummm, Bengals already beat them once before the title. Anyone walking into half time thinking game was done, has short term memory loss.
From the immortal words of Chris Berman...."That's why they play the game."
as a chiefs fan, we were never a dynasty. we have 1 ring in our 4 straight AFC championship appearances , i’d say we’re a great team but the only dynasty i’ve ever seen with my own eyes were the patriots
Right… kinda like the bills. Made 4 SB appearances consecutively and came up with 0 victories haha
The Cowboys, the defacto 90's dynasty, only won three Super Bowls in four seasons. And has won only one playoff game since.
@@-Hesco andy’s reid eagles
Just makes what the Pats did in NE even more impressive, the most talent QB in the league rn only one it once with 4 chances BACK TO BACK
As much of a “dynasty” as the 2010s Seahawks or Packers
Good analysis!! Any team that can beat the chiefs twice in a one month can beat anyone in the league!
Thanks!

The Bengals did it in the regular season.. why couldn't they do it in the playoffs?
That question answers itself
As a Bengals fan ever since I can remember thank you for this masterpiece
This is a VERY good analysis- that k you!
Thanks Scott!
Moral to the story? Don't sleep on the Bengals. Everyday is a new day. And yesterday is just a memory.
I just noticed how much ground Apple covered on that last play of the half, changed the game..
I was amazed at the way that both qbs scrambled under so much pressure. So many times I thought that they would be sacked but they always got away.
QB play is at an all time high in the league, although in this particular game I think it foreshadowed Mahomes struggling
This is the fall of a king and a rise of a new one.
Great analysis.
Thank you Zach!
Excellent!
Thank you!
Literally sending this video to Leslie Frazier & Sean McDermott 😭😭😭. Bruh I just want ONE b4 I die lol! Another w video. Appreciate the content as always my boy! 💪
Y'all are CLOSE! I still think you're the best team in the AFC. Appreciate you brother!
@@AlexRollinsNFL i felt the same way my whole life before the cheifs won ONE
Thanks for the video, I've been arguing around the internet with folks who after this game feels the NFL is rigged. I just don't see any evidence to support this, a bad second half for this team or that doesn't mean rigging.
We live in the age of conspiracy, it's exhausting. And the simple refutation of almost all of them is simply that it is almost impossible for large groups of people to keep secrets for very long.
The sport is 100 percent controlled by money.I said it when chiefs beat bills with what 13 secs left and I said it again when they lost to Cinci. Vegas gets what Vegas wants look who won the most money in playoff history not the people but Vegas hmmm
play before halftime? RB couldve walked in and/or mahomes couldve walked in. ez point shaving. sleep tight zzzzzzz
Logan Wilson is an exciting coverage linebacker started college as a safety/wr
He has potential, but he's been meh this season
Ok I've unironically had built bars before and they're goated
Que buen análisis Alex. 👌
Gracias por eso complimento, Juan!
Wait you mean strategy and scheming actually matter? I was told that it was 100% Mahomes fault that no one was open and he had no time in the pocket. Crazy
"If Logan Wilson, who's not a very good coverage linebacker...." 3:48
...What? He's got like 5 interceptions this year.
Trevon Diggs had 11, what’s your point
@@Chrisd0ntmiss I also watch the Bengals every week. Wilson is not a bad coverage linebacker. It's one of his strengths. Our pass coverage suffered when he was out and has ramped back up when he came back from injury. I don't have PFF or anything, but in college he had over a 91 PFF grade in coverage as well. I expect he has pretty high PFF grades in pass coverage in the NFL as well, based on what my eyes tell me watching him during the games.
My point is I think Alex either misspoke here and meant to say he is a very good coverage linebacker, or I'd like to hear some analysis about what makes him a not very good coverage linebacker.
@@JoeFromCincinnati he has a 60.3 coverage grade (32/80). I think that's about right. He is v smart, good in short/mid depth, but doesn't cover in space very well, and isn't asked to do it much, either
@@SidelineSteve Okay, so that sounds like an average to slightly above average coverage LB to me. Especially since, in the video, they were talking about him being in a short/mid zone coverage situation.
@@Chrisd0ntmiss Trevon Diggs is a corner you rock bottom pile of rocks i.q. guy.
If you don’t like the “Xs and Os” of football, you won’t like this video. However, if you do enjoy this then you are in for a treat! Nice video man!
Much has been Bates has returned to all pro form in playoffs after so so regular season. He has been a general in the secondary all 3 games.
Thanks for another great video Alex. Your piece earlier this season predicting Stafford for a Super Bowl and MVP is looking better by the week too!

Great break down.. Bengals made great adjustments
Thanks brother!
Cincinnati Bengals simply the best 💙 love from Philippines 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Great video. Theres not enough talk about the great adjustments the DC did against one of the best and fastest offenses in the NFL.
Thank you brother!
As a Broncos fan this made me smile,I don't like how cocky the Queefs and their annoying fans have become nice to see them enjoy some humble pie😆😅🤣😂🤘
Broncos fans have no right to cheer. The chiefs made 4 straight afc champs in the past five years. Yall havent been shit since 2015 how bout yall get an actual QB before you gloat and no Aaron rodgers is not gonna make you SB cotenders
that was not jet chip wasp right? i thought hill would sell the crosser and redirect to near the sideline on that
Andy Reid the type of guy to only use one play in Madden
And never run the ball 😂
Logan wilson is an excellent coverage linebacker… led all linebackers in ints this year
That's not the best indicator of coverage, for example Trevon Diggs led the league in interceptions while being the only corner to allow 1000 yards this year
Coaches that can change their playcallin/scheme mid-game are the best. Some coaches are too stubborn
Just found this channel lmao I been missing out
Glad you like it!
The fact that you said Wilson isn't a very good coverage linebacker shows you haven't watched him much this year.
Look what Burrows and chase did at LSU unstoppable
