    I wanna hug you after this one my brother. Most fans don’t realize that defense isn’t just guys standing around waiting for the offense to screw up. Mistakes are forced. I also have to strongly disagree with you on that Bills Chiefs game where both defenses should’ve killed themselves after they collapsed in the 4th and OT. It was hard to watch. The Bengals defensive performance was so refreshing and I couldn’t stop smiling. And they closed the show. Nothing makes me happier than to see QB’s uncomfortable. And Mahomes has surely that in the 2nd half. General fans probably think he just choked or forgot how to play. Or some other lazy insight. When in fact…it was the Bengals defense that made him crazy. However, I realize most fans like offense, the league promotes and makes rules to help the offenses, but I’m old school. I like line play and defense, and QB’s getting their ass kicked. Mahomes and Allen were great, but I think I was more about horrible defense down the stretch. Poor angles, players out of position, poor tackling, blown coverages. Ok, I’m done. Thanks for the chat. Bengals may be the most well coached teams in the league. The coaches make game changing adjustments and the players execute them very well on both sides of the ball. They’ve gotten this far on total team execution rather than depending solely on the performance of a few players.
    The defense doesn’t have big names but they definitely have playmakers at each level. Over 3 playoff games this defense has 6 turnovers, all interceptions. 3 by DBs, 2 by LB’s, and 1 by a D Lineman. Whats even more impressive is not one player has more than 1 pick. 6 picks by 6 different players at 3 different levels.
    Lastly, 5 of 6 interceptions has come in the second half. 3 of which came in the 4th quarter/OT and directly led to a Bengals victory.

      The Bengals are well coached on all three phases of the game. Their offensive play caller Brian Callahan works hand in glove with Zac Taylor and they put Joe Burrow in the best situation to get the ball out to the open receiver. The defensive coach in Lou Anarumo is one of the best in game adjustment coaches I have ever seen. Then lastly their Special teams coordinator Darrin Simons is the longest tenured coach on the team,and he gets the most out of his kickers,punt returners and gunners. This Bengals team is very well coached.

    Its important to note that the Bengals are down a LB that is meant for coverage (ADG), and their other LB (Logan Wilson and Germaine Pratt) are both former safeties. Vonn Bell is also an undersized LB. Noted in the video, Sam Hubbard can do a lot pretty well. The versatility on the Bengals defense is what allowed them to out maneuver the Chiefs. It wasn't that they did anything very very well, its that the Chiefs couldn't keep up with their adjustments.

    That's great coaching, on a strategic and tactical level. The fact that the Bengals were able to get pressure on mahomes with a 3 man rush shows good defensive line practicing, and the fact that they were able to make play by play adjustments to a known concept shows great play recognition.

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W 2 года назад +3

      Its not like the Bengals haven't flexed 3 man rushes throughout the season. They have done it against the Titans and Raiders at a much lower rate and more towards zone. As you saw in the video the DC Lou Anarumo was playing around for the ideal look in the first half despite getting burned and then he finally got that one look that beats the one play the Chiefs have been running in the first half. Also compounded was Mahomes visible frustration of settling for the smaller pass plays so he holds the ball longer to try get a chunk play going. Which ultimately plays into the Bengals coverage dropping 8 and letting Hendrickson attack Orland Brown Jr's overrated ass.

    • @timothyhiggins8934
      @timothyhiggins8934 2 года назад +1

      @@t4d0W good points. However I must says that the key to that chiefs offensive concept is Kelce. Taking out Kelce, mahomes typical first target, and his unwillingness to search for other targets off the snap, and the tight zone coverages the Bengals eventually ran is what caused mahomes to look like a complete idiot that day. Plus the complete lack of a credible running game. I'm sure the Bengals didn't run 3 rush sets against the Titans a whole lot, with derrick Henry back there. But the chiefs running game is a joke compared to the other playoff teams, and their ability to create the short passing game hides this. Until playoff time

    • @akiouchiha8657
      @akiouchiha8657 2 года назад +1

      @Timothy Higgins the reason for this was the second half of your statement. Mahomes has shown plenty willingness to go to other receivers. This go back to bad playcalling, the key for the chiefs after the bengals adjustments was to run the damn football, but because Reid can be so stubborn and unwilling to run the football that’s wht led to the collapse. Getting McKinnon more touches would’ve taken pressure off mahomes and forced the bengals to drop someone from the secondary, freeing them up to go back to the pass game.

      I coached High School and youth football for 19 years. Watched lots of film and trying to stop good opposing offenses was always hard to crack and break their schemes. Usually I started with their O-line and looked for the one or two linemen with crappy techniques like standing up coming out of their three point stances. That’s where my third & short yardage play blitzes would go through. Usually simple stuff like having D-ends play the outside shoulder against teams with speed. But passing coverages were tough and you nailed it on dissecting KC and the Bengals out coached KC.

    Two other points I would add to this:
    1. Mahomes relies heavily on raw talent in place of fundamentals and IQ. That has enabled him to make some incredible unorthodox plays, but also led to some bad and costly mistakes, like that last pass directly into double coverage.

      I don't believe for a second the Chiefs threw this game but they definitely gave it away. Bengals couldn't even slow the Chiefs in the first half, and then the Chiefs stopped running, receivers dropped passes and Mahomes regressed to playground ball in the second half. Bengals made adjustments and the Chiefs did not respond. Chiefs were out coached and it feels like Reid is regressing to the mean...same patterns and outcomes that eventually got him fired in Philly.
