The benching of Butler was a major factor! The play that maybe turned the Super Bowl, ( that nobody ever talks about): the 3rd and 8 on the Eagles first drive of the 2nd half. The Pats had a long drive resulting in a TD to cut the deficit to 22-19. On the 3rd play , (. 3rd and 8), Foles throws underneath to Nelson Agolar . If that’s Butler on him he’s stopped short and the Eagles go 3 and out! But his replacement, Bademosi, misses the tackle allowing him to get the first down. This results in the Eagles continuing the drive and score a TD to put them back up by 10, rather than giving Brady the ball back down 3, ( in a game the Pats never punted)! Belichicks arrogance cost his team a Super Bowl!

Just scrolled through some of the comments, and I'm already seeing salty Pats/Brady fans peddling the conspiracy theory that Belichick benched Malcolm Butler, whom they claim was their "best corner" that year (what was Stephon Gilmore, chopped liver?), so as to spite Brady and send a message to Kraft. Never mind the fact that NE's defense even with Butler on the field wasn't that great in 2017, never mind the fact that in the previous year's Super Bowl, NE's defense, with Butler on the field, gave up 28 points through the first 3 quarters of the game (and had it not been for the ineptitude of the Falcons coaching staff /Atlanta's defense completely collapsing in the 4th quarter, the Pats would've lost), never mind the fact that they had the epitome of incompetence in Matt Patricia as their D-coordinator that year, never mind the fact that Philly, in addition to having a pretty loaded team that year, also had coaches like Frank Reich and John Defilippo making sure that Wentz, Foles and the entire Eagles offense was running like a well-oiled machine. Never mind ALL of that. I just have a couple of questions: 1) You say that Belichick did it because he was so arrogant as to believe that he was more important than Brady and that he believed that it was Brady that should've been traded, not Jimmy G. If Belichick is really as arrogant as you all claim, is not more likely then that he saw that the Eagles were starting their supposedly unimpressive backup QB in Nick Foles and, in his arrogance, figured that the Patriots didn't need to do much to win? That even without Butler they still could've won because Foles was just that unimpressive of a QB? Is that really such an unrealistic explanation? 2) If Foles is truly as bad as you all claim (and to be clear, I don't necessarily disagree with the claim that Foles is a bad QB), is it really so ridiculous to believe that they could still win without Butler? Hell I'd argue that the Pats honestly should've been able to beat Philly even without Butler on the field, that if they had properly schemed and been able to get more pressure on Foles, they could have come away with a win. If the coaching staff is to be blamed, it has less to do with them purposely throwing the game and more to do with A) the head coach being way too overconfident in his own teams abilities/the opposing teams weaknesses and B) the Defensive coordinator being absolutely terrible at his job. And as for why their "best corner" in Butler didn't play a single snap, there had been reports that he and BB's son Steve had gotten into some kind of altercation the week before the game after Butler broke curfew and was allegedly smoking weed in his hotel room. Yes, Butler isn't the first player to do this, yes smoking weed shouldn't be a punishable offense, and yes the coaching staff completely overreacted and should never have tried to intervene. At the same time, I wouldn't say a coach benching a player for getting into a fight (a fight with their son no-less) the week before a game is something that's so out of the realm of possibility that it shouldn't even be considered. How many coaches do you know that would let a player get away with beating up their kid? Not very many I imagine. Honestly, everything I just laid is much more of a reasonable explanation than "bElIcHiCk WanTeD tO tEaCh kRaFt A lEsSoN!" You'd think a fanbase that constantly has to hear other fans try and delegitimize their team's championships b/c of shit like spygate and deflategate would try to not do the same thing and be a little more empathetic, but no, y'all are just a bunch of salty, entitled Mf'ers.
In 2017 yes Butler was better for the Patriots. Gilmore was adjusting to the scheme and by the end was playing great. Also what made Butlers benching stranger was that NE was already two corners.
I agree. Plus there was some in fighting within the Eagles organization too at this time. If we're playing the "woulda shoulda coulda" game then Schwartz should've benched Darby and play Rasul Douglas. Darby was getting creamed.
@@jrad410 That still doesn't change the fact Gilmore was better than Butler that year. If Belichick was trying to throw the game then why didn't he bench Gilmore?
Not to diminish the Eagles amazing tenacity, and great scheme, but the Pats lost because Bill sabotaged them. Bill’s little cry baby fit over Butler talking back to Patricia, and Bill trying to get Brady out is what killed them
As an Eagles fan, I get why you did this. It was the last great Super Bowl. The last few haven't been close to as entertaining. Even if I wasn't an Eagles fan, the games have been low scoring and not as exciting.

It would just be a 14 minute long video on the NASCAR package (and I’m not talking about cars)!
Eli is a hall of famer whereas Nick Foles played like 4 good games in his career.
@@JahNuhThunDeeTheOneAndOnly Facts bro and it works when you have a defensive end who can slide inside and can beat the guards with speed and technique ( I.e. Justin Tuck or Michael Bennett)
It still pisses me off to this day, but we won a Super Bowl the next year and the Eagles are now in shambles so I’m happy now
Dude Patriots are in shambles too 😂💀
@@M0y861 we at least won another super bowl after that and our worst season is 7-9 while the Eagles went 4-11-1
Bro y’all got 6 Super Bowls let us enjoy this 1 lol
You mean the same dynasty that won in 2018!?
Think about how many defensive players the Patriots were missing.
Hightower, Branch, Butler, Jonathan Jones, C Jones, McClellin, Chung gets hurt in game. Patriots were playing special team guys on heavy snaps.
The Eagles were missing a tone of important guys too.
Did you see the Eagles injury chart? Lol it was just as many if not more
Respect on the “deflating” line
Know this is slightly off-topic, but if The Minny Miracle didn’t happen, do you think the Eagles would’ve beat the Saints in the NFCCG??? Saints Fan here btw.
I think it would’ve been a much closer game but the Eagles roster was pretty stacked that year, dominant Oline and Dline
That Butler clip fucked me up man why you do hawks fans like dat :_(
The dramatic ass caption in the beginning 😹
Not sure it's taking down a dynasty when the Pats won the Super Bowl the very next year.
Lol i remember eagles fans lighting fires and breaking shit afterwards like they lost 😂😂
The celebration was pretty calm compared to a lot of other celebrations I’ve seen
Might want to check the sub-titles. Every line shows up in frame1, instead of line by line with the narration.
Must have been a glitch, I'll check it out!
You mean, how a gripping Billy Belichick, and awful officiating (tipping on the verge of 'fixing') lead to the taking down of an NFL dynasty.
Don't ever believe the Eagles legitimately "beat the brakes" off that New England Patriots team!
Did we ever find out why Butler was benched? It was so weird at the time.
Nope :(
@@AlexRollinsNFL Maybe Belichick's contrition for cheating against the Eagles with Spygate in 2005 at Super Bowl 39. We made a similar mistake like Butler not playing. We let Donavan McNabb play. Terrell Owens should have been Super Bowl MVP.
I still can't quite shake the conspiracy theory about sitting Butler to throw the game. It just makes no sense.
Those are my eagles 🥲
Two time double dyanasty btw Pats won a ring after the loss and Tom won another with the buccs while foles wentz and Doug all left or turned to shit
That SB was more like belichick cheated th out of Brady
You should do a video about the Seahawks murdering Peyton Manning!
One of the greatest, if not greatest, Super Bowl defensive performances ever
Take down a dynasty?!
Didn't the Patriots win another Superbowl AFTER this game?
Yep!
Bring him back to Philly!
Not to diminish the Eagles amazing tenacity, and great scheme, but the Pats lost because Bill sabotaged them. Bill’s little cry baby fit over Butler talking back to Patricia, and Bill trying to get Brady out is what killed them
nick foles is the real goat
“Took Down”, seems a bit strong. Makes it seem like he ended the dynasty. Even though they won the championship the next year.
Honestly reich made Peterson look good when he left wentz and foles struggled and Peterson has gone down
As an Eagles fan, I get why you did this. It was the last great Super Bowl. The last few haven't been close to as entertaining. Even if I wasn't an Eagles fan, the games have been low scoring and not as exciting.
Chiefs vs niners 31-20 🤷♂️
Also just cause there isn’t a lot of offense doesn’t it’s mean a bad sb
@@duskthunder9274 You might need reading comprehension. Point to where I said it was bad. Answer me this, where the past few AS exciting or more than SB 52? If you say yes, you are lying. THAT was my point. Sure, I would have liked more defense, but I don't think any of the most recent SB games are close.
@@duskthunder9274 Wasn't as exciting as SB 52.
Honestly I didn’t enjoy super bowl 52, but that’s probably because I was rooting for the Pats lol.
They beat a dynasty one time. I dont know about taking it down. The Eagles could not keep it together after the SB win and turned into a dumpster fire..That team is long gone and the Pats won another and just kept on rolling...It was a great game though...
What’s up with the subtitles lol
When Jimmy G lost to Nate Sudfield in the Super Bowl. (HINT: they both are now teammates) 🤣🤣🤣
Wrong BB took it down by benching Butler for no reason.
He convinced belichick to sit malcom butler
😥the Falcon's deserved this same joy
As an Eagles fan I understand how you feel. They'll get there some day.
imagine if foles was traded to the saints...
How Belichick threw the SB by benching Malcolm Butler :In depth. There I fixed your title
Am I the only one that uses Mesh in Madden?
It’s clutch for short yard gainage
Imagine the bears if foles played like that
Foles played this way cause of reich the OC same with wentz orders on showed he’s not that great of a player caller he needed reich
Bears have no Line
Let's see this game with Butler playing. BB threw this game.
this is not a dynasty ending game. Mostly bc the pats literally on the NEXT super bowl...
I was expecting a deep dive on why Belichick benched Butler because thats how the Pats lost.
Did you watch it? 😂
@@AlexRollinsNFL I did and you did talk about Butler's absence and why it hurt. The mystery remains: why bench such a critical piece to your defense?!
A deep dive would just be talking conspiracy theories. He broke down the actual game and why the Eagles won including how important the benching of Butler was
Chung and Rowe both eagles Chung and og Pat tho
ref eats shit at 10:01
Oh is that what he did....
How did he take down a dynasty when they literally won the next year?🤣😂
They took Foles out of the equation.
I detect a double meaning with this upload’s title...
Didn't he get traded after this?
He stayed their backup for one season then was traded
Nick Foles,
Carson Wentz Daddy.
Ill say it so you do not have to. BIRDS!
Short answer Bill Benched Butler they don’t win with Butler on the field lucky year for them and look at them now
Imagine how bad Butler had to of f*cked up for Belichick to bench him for the entire Superbowl?
The Eagles torched the best defense in the league the game before, there’s no telling if Butler could’ve made that much of a difference. The Eagles roster was loaded that year
10:26 "BDN Magic."
What does BDN stand for Alex?
Care to explain to the viewers at home?
😂
We'll keep it as it is lol
BYYYY...Belicheck not coaching the superbowl..
Can you do how the Broncos beat the pats in 2015 AFC championship
