    I've owned 6 different mercury outboards from optimax / fourstroke / verado, I now own a Suzuki 250 on a ranger 620....I will never own another Merc unless someting drastic happens, The Suzuki does everything better and it really does hang with the Merc for performance and I think in some cases even out performs the Merc. The fuel mileage isn't even close i sometimes forget to look at the fuel gauge now that in running a Suzuki. I knew nothing about Suzuki's when I bought the boat and after 210hrs I don't think I'll be looking at any other brand. Its a outstanding outboard

    I have a 2019 Suzuki DF250SS on a shallow-v bay boat. I love it. Super quite and a lot of power. I feel it should have more top end speed. I just need to play with some props. I have it propped for getting up quick in shallow water and it does that great. Has tons of thrust. I know it would be a trade off to gain speed.

    I have a 1990 21 foot Swan Point Carolinian that I just recently restored, the original (gas-guzzling) 150 Evinrude on the boat needs to get yanked! I've been kicking tires on what brand of motor to get, and now I'm sold on the Sukuki SS. You sir are very thorough on articulating the Pros and Cons of these motors, I'm just not sure if the 250 will be too much motor for the old boat since the information plate that was once riveted to the boat is gone! Oh, great videos, keep up the good work!

    • @TeamMarineService
      @TeamMarineService  3 года назад +3

      We aren't exactly familiar with that boat and we're not sure if they are around anymore either. If they are you can always call them and ask if a 250 SS would work. We suspect it would be fine but if you want to stay in the 150 hp range check out the Suzuki 150 SS. Solid motor with great performance and reliability. Let us know what you find out!

    Awesome! My Vexus avx1880 has a 115 ss. It has the same screens you show, I guide on a grass lake and have yet to overheat. Weird to see the 250's don't have that mesh screen stock. Only sacrifice is top speed, where same boats with 115 merc got 5-7 mph on me. I'm sure you could figure out the best prop for it. Hole shot is amazing though.

    Another awesome battle... Zuk for the win!! So many of the things you talked about in this battle is what led me to Suzuki. The #1 reason, the reliability that I've seen talked about. I did months of research and decided Zuk... I'm one of like 3 guys I know of that run the SS here in Northern Cali and even though service is only limited to 3 shops all between 1.5 and 5 hours from me, I still went Zuk because of the longevity stories I've seen and heard. LOVE IT and once I get the height right and the juice prop on it, it's gonna be on!!! Keep putting out great content guys ~ these battles are cool as hell!

    I've run Yamaha on every boat except my current boat. 2018 250 pro xs. Mine is a turd. Dealer network; Mercury, Parts pricing; Mercury, Parts availability when it becomes a late model; Mercury. Factory Tech/Warranty Support; Mercury. I own a late model DF115 which I love, if it drops a valve, a head costs almost as much as a short block.

    • @TeamMarineService
      @TeamMarineService  3 года назад +4

      Dealer Network, yes...Part Pricing/ Availability...Nothing wrong with Suzuki's pricing/ availability from what we've seen compared to Merc's...Factory Tech/Warranty Support, Suzuki's network is expanding across the country so just give it time. Now here's the real deal, This is what Merc guys always say and harp on about Suzuki's (not saying you're one, because clearly you aren't) but Parts/Availability, Factory Techs/Warranty Support doesn't matter when your outboard isn't plagued with constant problems! Bring this up to any Mercury guy and watch their heads explode. Enjoy that DF115 and that 6 year warranty!

    • @mrxlh
      @mrxlh 3 года назад

      @@TeamMarineService It’s a 12 model that ran out of warranty late in 18, I have had zero issues with it to date and love the performance, I don’t expect to have any issues with it at all. However I have 2 14 model DF175 in my shop (garage) that dropped valves. Heads are scary stupid in pricing, they really are not worth fixing as you end up about 75-80% of the cost of a new motor without warranty. I have been looking for a 14 model DF90 lower unit and back in August they were on a 6 month back order.....May be better now, but that project is on the back burner. From your videos, they probably are a low issue item, which would explain the availability issue.

I will order a Zodiac Medline 7,5 with probably a merc 300 Pro Xs …..I will use the boat in Italy in a lake….but what engine do you recommend??? Right now I am having a Brig Eagle 645 with an Evinrude E tec . 150 horsepower . I love it but the boat is a 2012 , suddenly the trim did stop to work at 19% . Let’s see …. and the boat is a bit uncomfortable for me. I have some problems on my knees and shoulder and elbow after a very bad car accident ….about 23 surgery’s in 5 years .
    do you think I could take an new Evinrude 300 e etc?? Or will I get problems soon or later in Italy when the motor needs spare parts one day. I know Evinrude went bankrupt ….

I even owned a JUNK one time! I mean a Force... the only outboard I ever blew up..The 1st time I heard about a 4 stroke outboard.... I though... “Worthless as wet toilet paper!”..How can you run a 4stroke anything (short of a Hendricks nascar engine) right on the red line all the time?? Too many moving parts to fail! I know they prolly got it figured out.... but I’ll keep my good ole 2skroke! Same goes for my weed-eaters and chainsaws!

If you ask Bass Cat, Triton, most that have done a TRUE AND FAIR comparison it’s typically 7mph. Maybe things have changed but the SS came out a long time ago, the first SHO and Pro XS in terms of large bore 4strokes that are light and kick ass on Bass Boats. I think it was 16yrs ago

    Mercury dealers are all around me, the nearest suzuki is one hour away which was a factor in my repower. Yes I believe suzuki makes a great engine, however I also believe mercury makes a great engine, so I went with the 300 pro xs, I will say it was a hard decision as I do believe in the suzuki hype but don't believe the mercs are junk as this video shows. If the merc does turn out to be needing attention, I can be at 3 dealers within 10 miles or so, the suzuki is damn near 40 miles,if suzuki was the "chosen one" as this video states then why doesn't more people sell em, hell they have been around long enough to be more accepted with the boat crowd, people look down upon you at the sandbar if you have a suzuki, like its a consolation prize, I've been hearing for years that suzuki will come around to more places yet they never do.

    • @TeamMarineService
      @TeamMarineService  3 года назад +3

      Great comment Nate! In your case with having a couple Merc dealers so close that's a logical decision to go with one. Suzuki has been in the offshore game mostly and over the last couple years has started to make the push into the bass boat market. With that will come an expanded dealer network across the country, it'll just take some time. In the case of people "looking down" on Suzuki's as a consolation prize always remember that their are some people who will argue that Nitro makes the highest quality best boat, Evinrude makes the most reliable outboards and that American isn't number 1! Some people are just flat out crazy! 😂🇺🇸

  • @grumpyoldcoach

    What is this a backyard comparison? Hard to take advice on two products when it's obviously based upon personal choice. The SS Suzuki's are good, I agree, but to call Suzuki a better performer on a pontoon boat is like calling a Cummins diesel a better motor in tug boat. Merc's are made to run, on boats designed to run, Suzuki has water intake problems that result in overheating. I'm sorry, I don't think the Suzuki is a BETTER motor, it just may have better applications on some boats than Mercury. I've been outrun by more Mercs than Suzuki's or Yamaha's on flats boats.
