With visits to Joe’s Pizza, Di Fara Pizza, Koronet, and Scarr’s, Producer (and NYC pizza expert) Spencer Alben sets out to find the absolute best slice of pizza in NYC. Should we tell this girl that's how traditional pizzas in Italy are? They use fresh mozzarella, so they can't use large quantities without making the pizza literally wet when it's finished cooking.
I don't get this thought....you're allowed to put your spin to it. Cuisines go according to the the taste you have developed. For me an Italian pizza tastes boring and frankly there is not enough flavour cause my taste have developed for a number of toppings. So saying Italians does it this way isn't really end all and be all. I am sure italians have there own twist on other cuisines as well.

@@kartik1396 italian's original style use fresh mozzarella which contain high water content, therefore the pizza will get soggy and taste like soggy cum sock, new york style often use the high fat low moisture to make pizza so you can use alot of them, for me the american pizza taste like stale bread, toppings and cheese because theres to much cheese and other stuff made the sauce taste like nothing, italian pizzas like the neapolitan style focus about the flavour and the quality of the ingredient and not like "throw shit from the fridge on to the dough and done" like american styles

I do like different types of pizza, but there is something about classic NYC style pizza that stands out. I think it comes down to the fact that the basic version is just so good. Everything works perfectly together, from the crispy thin dough to the stringy cheese with burnt marks to the tomato sauce that is just instantly recognizable as soon as it touches your taste buds. You know you're having pizza. When it comes to other styles, I find the more extravagant toppings the better. When it comes to NYC pizza, it's honestly best if it's just plain cheese or pepperoni. I'll finish off by saying that while I do enjoy other types of pizza, whenever I see a drawing or representation of pizza the first thing that comes to mind is this. I feel the same way about burgers; even though there are many fancy varieties which are all delicious, the classic cheeseburger with ketchup, mustard, chopped onions and a pickle is still the perfect unit that can't be beat.

Simplicity is best but I personally think Lucalis on Brooklyn has absolutely nailed the perfect pizza and he always keeps things very simple offering only a Margherita pizza and calzone , of course there’s an option to add toppings if you pay extra but the simple Margherita is perfection.

Majority of NYC pizza is pretty trashy and low quality. There are a few standouts but per capita you can do much better.

I agree 100% with Spencer. A few years back I was in NYC for a three day weekend catching up with some collage buddies and we had a pizza binge, hitting every joint we could find. We hit Di Fara on my first day there and as I was nearing the end of my 72 hours it was the clear frontrunner for my favorite place...then we tried Joe's a few hours before I got back on the road to head home--I live in PA so the drive was nothing for me--and the moment I bit into a slice from Joe's it was over and I knew it was the winner. Seeing this makes me want to head back up there and get a REAL pizza fix with a slice from Joe's.

Absolutely great content. Basing it off your facial expressions and words Di Fara's pizza looked like your were in "Real Pizza Love ❤". Any place that has been open for that long had to have been doing something right. I am sold on them, next time i am in NYC i will gladly give them a visit. I Love New York, and while visiting there i usually eat a slice or 2 everyday. Artichoke Basille Pizza on 10th in Manhattan is the best Pizza in NYC to me. From the presentation, crust, sauce, pepperoni, basil etc everything is just mind bending.💯💯💯💯.
By the way.. I know a little about pizza as i grew up on Regina's pizza in Boston, Ma.. Making great pizza pies since 1926.... 95 years in the game.. They have it down packed is an understatement.

i live 5 min away from di fara and from my several experiences, di fara is the best of the best cause they have the BEST INGREDIENTS and it’s always cooked fresh. even though there’s a 40 minute wait time, yk it’s good because they make that slice/pie fresh and they have the best technique. also, how did scarr’s have the best ingredients? di fara’s are literally imported from italy. secondly, the uneven, traditional sauce to cheese ratio is amazing cause those bites w just cheese or just tomato makes someone appreciate the ingredients even more than before, since your eating it alone and getting the true flavor. no hate to the girl but my personal opinion

Joe's is your best basic walk down the street, or out late at night slice. I wouldn't say it's the best overall pizza by a long shot. The pizza at Di Fara, Lucali, Arturo's, Patsy's, and the list goes on, is actually worth going out of your way for.

The best Pizza in NYC is DiFarra, John of Bleecker street and Lucali
I've had the DiFara pizza and it's really great pizza if you're used to eating low quality ingredients. They make the best pizza of all pizza shops that use low quality ingredients. But when you talk quality, you need to consider who's using San Marzando tomato's and the best quality Mozarella cheese.
You're talking about DiFara on Avenue J? They're known for using only the priciest of ingredients, that's why their slice is $5. DeMarco specifically looks at the "top priced" ingredients, imported from Italy.
@@jordanf.4876 Last time I had their pizza (last year) it reminded me of the frozen Celeste cheese pizza ($0.99 cents a box) I used to have when I was a kid. High quality pizza should not be able to do that.
Again, if you never ate pizza from a place that uses only the best ingredients but are used to low quality pizza then yea, Di Fara will be amazing among those because your taste buds haven't been exposed to better things.
Something makes no sense, though... they clearly are using the top ingredients imported from Italy and even Israel for the oregano-they're not swindling. It's considered by pizza critics to be in the top bracket of the best in the world to this day. Perhaps yours was some kind of anomalous pie that day.

For the NY-style coal-oven pizza, I would take John's on Bleecker over Joe's every time. But overall, I like Keste (across from John's on Bleecker). It's typical Neapolitan, brick-oven, wood-burning pizza run by actual Neapolitans... best in NYC! Better than Lucali's!

Thanks for this fine video...as a pizza lover myself, i find that Bleecker St pizza on 7th Ave So and Bleecker St has my favorite slice..especially the Nona. Carmine's Pizza on Nassau St/Fulton St is better than the West Village spot, in my opinion. Next time, head up to the Bronx for Lou and Ernie's.. Keep up your labor of love ...
Koronet wasn't the best slice of pizza, but it's special to me. I was a poor college student and tuition at Columbia made living difficult. Thankfully Koronet was always there for me when I did go out. I met my future wife there during freshman year of college because we heard of the gargantuan pizza slices near campus. I still prefer Joe's and Lucali's in terms of flavor, but the pizza at Koronet was a bargain. My wife and I dine there occasionally even though we live less than 5 minutes away from Lucali's. The pizza never disappoints. Di Fara is also exceptional, but I'd rather spend my money at Lucali's considering the dining experience you get for the same price.
