Wow Pete that’s a really nice effect I’m really impressed with that! There is some really nice deep colours coming through especially after the clear went on, definitely be interesting what it looks like with a white gloss paint. Cheers.
Hi Steve, Yes, It was really nice to look at, I have since tried it over a white and it's not so good, looks all pink, I've since got a few more colours to experiment with, certainly eye catching, cheers mate 👍
Hi ken, these little tanks are getting a little heavy, I must admit 🤣, they were originally off a Yamaha 125 and are 16 litres, so around 4.3 US gallons, not that small compared to some bike tanks 😉
That's an awesome paint scheme.. gives a purple mirror finish at certain angles. We have a couple of places to buy pearls and metallics from in the US, but I've always figured I'd screw up a paint job trying it. 😅😂
Love this Pete! I have never painted before but planning on starting soon, and would like to paint a car. As a bike guy I enjoy these as well and love all your insight!
Hi mate, Thank you. It's good to hear you enjoy the videos. If you haven't painted before, it can seem a bit daunting, but it will come together in the end. It's best to get an old panel, prep it, and try over and over again to get your confidence with your setup, once your happy with the finish your getting you should be good to go. Don't be put off by mistakes and mishaps. It is all part of learning, cheers buddy, thanks for watching 👍
I used to use Earls Custom Paints, but he sold up and moved to Australia. He's started up over there, but obviously, the postage is higher. Found Perfect Pigments and Pearls , and, as you say, it's good stuff 👌
Hi Pete, a very interesting video again mate and you have upped your game with the Chameleon paint, we have chatted about this before asking you about the process but now I've seen it done it does look quite easy👌 I have seen this used before but his was a ready mixed basecoat all you do is thin it and away you go but from what I can remember it was very expensive. The tank looks amazing Pete and the AZ4 did a great job laying the base and clear, if it was me I would have waited a couple of days then give it a flowcoat which would really make it pop but that's just me😁 it would be interesting to see how it came out over a gloss white🤔 Thanks for sharing Pete👏👏👍
Hi John, Yes, it was quite straightforward once you have the gloss black base. It was one of the most enjoyable things I have done to be honest. It looked better to the eye than on camera, You get more colours to the eye. I will try over a white and I will get some more colours, cheers mate, hope alls well 👍
Sorry for the late reply Pete but good old YT didn't think I deserved a notification about your comment😠🤬 I've got a 5L tin of jet black solvent basecoat so I'm not short of that😁 I recon using the Chameleon base is very rewarding as you get a lot back from it once it's done as it's totally different to the usual colours we use👌 I wonder what this would look like over the Mipa Chrome paint you used a while back🤔 I think it would look really nice💪 I'm all good here mate, just the usual getting old things holding me back👴😅🤣
I have sprayed a cholemion somewhat like it was just over black, not gloss. I would like to see other colors and done over gloss white. I try the tip you gave sometime ago on the supernova I love that gun but don't know if I really noticed the difference. Thank you for sharing .
Hi buddy, I will experiment with different base colours. It would be interesting to see how it goes. The only real difference in the Supernova with that setup is the ability to use full fan. However, some line up better than others, so I think the closer your original setup is to the centre, the less difference it will make, I have seen some where the tip cut outs are 90° to the air horns out the box, appreciate the comments mate, thank you 👍
Hi Mate, I've got what you mean now 😂, only reason I questioned it was it was an old video, so I wasn't sure. Unfortunately, most of my work is quite mundane, trying to keep things standard as that's what most people want done. Occasionally, I get time to have a play and experiment with things that are a little different, just for my own fun, really like this one. The latest is engine turning gold, silver, and copper leaf. Eventually, I'll make a video so you can all see what I'm up to 😉 Cheers, buddy
hi Pete, my AZ4 feels strange on trigger and wasn't put enough fluid, (1.2) when I look further I realized sleeve of the needle 3nn behind than another needle (1.4) anyway, ı thought thats the problem and put 3 washer front of it, which faced the trigger, and problem solved. my question , is there any adjustment on the needle sleeve ? end of the day, better to not care that small washers if possible. And also thanks for AZ3 solution, I was suffering same thing and tighten continuously when spraying.
Hi Goker, No, the only adjustment is the needle packing sleeve which just adjusts the compression on the needle to seal it. So, if I understand correctly, you have 2 needles and the shoulder that the trigger moves on the needle is in a different position on each one?
@@peteshobbies5383 its a quite awkward production defect then. Because I wasn't feeling ok with modifying a gun, but at the end, solves the problem. Thanks to have another needle for judge, After that I put very thin washer on AZ3 just for curiosity, and trigger feels slightly better. It gives me me another adjustment, you can decrease fluid action point on trigger.
So wouldn't be possible to apply to a regular base coat that isn't glossy? Thanks ...I got 1x violet and 1x red bags that I want experiment on my car with😁...with a dark blue colour basecoat.

Do it the same as I did in the video, you need to mix the pigment with the thinners first as it mixes easier, it not so much of a problem with this to be fair but it's certainly good practice
@meguinness1116 Still 190 for automotive metallic, I use 190 for everything except candy paint, I don't use a filter at all if I'm using metal flake as it won't go through

Pete, I just figured out that those are petrol tanks off mini bikes, they're just that size because they have 144 coats of base and clear on them!

It may be the shoulder on the needle is just a friction fit ?, so it's possible to move it

Just my standard one, which is 190 micro, I use 125 micron for candy as you can get some bits in it, doesn't matter with this, so 190 is ok
