  • Hello and thank you for watching our latest video. Today we are back to the Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel. For the last few weeks it developed a slight coolant leak, but in the last couple of weeks at has slowly got worse until it started taking about 2 litres of coolant on a couple of miles trip.
    Come and see how we got on.
    Take care, Jeff & Jenny xx

      Hi Philip and thank you. The XF has been a great car, so I was pleased that my Father in law bought it from me, at least I still get to drive it. He has been thinking of selling it due to the London ULEZ, but he doesn't have to go into the zone to often, so I am trying to persuade him otherwise.
      Take care, Jeff

    Wow absolutely fantastic to a very tricky job well done Jeff I've got a leak on my car but there is no trace of a leak anywhere am topping it up every day 👍👍👍👍

      Hi Alan and thank you.
      After I repaired the leaking header tank, I thought that was it, but my Father in law was still topping up a bit.
      Over a couple of months it got so bad that he was putting 2 litres in on a two mile trip, but nothing coming out underneath.
      One day he started the engine and I could see it pouring out of the box I replaced. Thank god its not using any more coolant.
      I hope that you find out where your leak is coming from.
      Take care, Jeff

      I missed my appointment last week with the garage, glad I did, I had a problem with my DPF, I took it off and cleaned it a few times, but after a couple of miles says full again turned out to be an air leak in the throttle body might be worth checking, mine was leaking from the bit that looks like it comes apart, similar to the thermostat housing problem, got a new one and had no problems since, thanks again Kev @@DiecastPowderCoating

      The Jaguar is running great at the moment.
      I took my son's car for MOT today. I wish they had given me a list of what was right with it.
      There are about five major faults and about 10 advisories.
      Mainly suspension and anti roll bars.
      The other things I can get on with throughout the year.
      I have spent so much time with other people's problems, I can't get on with the moped.

      Thanks Benno, we managed to get the actual unit for £18 brand new. Obviously aftermarket, but God knows what that would have been at Jaguar.
      The Jag has been fine and not used any coolant.
      Next problem is my son's car. I took it for an MOT today after spending all day getting the brake lights to work, yesterday.
      That turned out to be the least of my problems.
      6 major faults and ten advisories. I've got parts for the major problems, but should cancel out some of the advisories.

    Thanks for the video it was great to give us the confidence to take the job on myself however, 😬 Could you let people know you snapped the small brittle air pipe off the first bit you took off as a warning to anyone following your video, I did the exact same thing not realising you snapped it at first 😂

      @DiecastPowderCoating  18 дней назад

      Hi Adam and thanks for watching. As I mentioned I am no mechanic, but I love solving problems and tinkering.
      I'm sorry I didn't mention about the little pipe, everything is so brittle. As I think I mentioned it is my father in law's car although in the earlier videos it was mine.
      He tends to drive with the radio full blast and can never hear any problems until it's too late.
      I think he has got a cracked inlet manifold, which would take a couple of days and he has a leaking fuel tank if he fills it up over half. I think the seam has split somehow. I do repairs as a hobby, so along with work and my other videos I just don't have time to do his car.
      Take care, Jeff

    Thanks for this video! In the middle of the same job now on my XFS. Having some trouble removing the egr pipes into the throttle body, worried about breaking the clips. Whats the best way to loosen the clips to release the pipes?

    • @DiecastPowderCoating
      @DiecastPowderCoating  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi Iren, those clips are a lot stronger than they look. I generally use a flat head screwdriver under the middle of them and they will just unclip.
      When you put them back on, line the pipes up and put the clip over the joint. Then use some large pliers and you will see how they clip back over themselves.
      I hope that helps a bit.
      Take care, Jeff

      @DiecastPowderCoating all pipes are secure, however noticed a few bolts not torqued properly, my manifold was replaced in September, and since then been having coolant issues, pipes have not been properly torqued, was easy enough to loosen without much resistance. Just wandering why there's coolant around the oil filter.

      Hi Jeff, finally decided to and finished installing the new housing unit, blow dry the excess coolant around the oil filter, cleaned the butter fly piece that goes into the manifolds, topped up with 1 litre coolant, started the car, waited for a few mins, checked the oil filter area and there was another pool of coolant. Don't know if it was fresh coolant or from old one, but my coolant light came on.

    • @DiecastPowderCoating
      @DiecastPowderCoating  8 месяцев назад

      @reginaldigweike4002 Hi Reg, I wasn't able to dry up all the coolant in the oil filter area, so hopefully it is what was left around that area. I seemed to remember I put several litres of water in to start with and when it had settled I sucked about two litres out and replaced it with concentrate coolant. Hopefully it will stabilise once it ash settled down.
