Every time you changed from 1080p to 4k we couldn't see the difference because you pulled up the menu instantly without giving us a second to see the difference 🤦♂️ 3 2 1 gone
Been following your channel for a while Blaine and your tutorials are always fantastic. Consistently thorough and clear. Gotta ask, what camera do you use when you’re recording on-bench? My Logi webcam ain’t cutting it.
Thank you! So I have two that I use. I have a Sony A6700 for recording me talking to the camera. I have an iPad Pro for recording the bench stuff. It's not that the A6700 wouldn't crush the quality of the iPad Pro; it would. However, I don't have a macro lens that can get those close-up shots, and the iPad Pro nails them. Also easier for these older eyes to frame and record those shots with a 12.9" screen instead of a 3" fiip out screen. :)
I got the 4k Gamer Plus. This thing is strong but I don't know how to capture footage with it. Anything I record, it's still native 1080p and not 4k. I don't know if it's your video or your unit but I really didn't see a real boost in upscaling. This is just my opinion. I got 4k Gamer Plus connected on a PC that's capped at 1080p 60fps. Turn it on, now it's 4k 60fps. I wish I knew how to show the footage but everything gets recorded in 1080p for some reason.
Yeah, RUclips can drop the quality of video footage quite a bit with their compression. The original project files for the entire video were around 100GB. The final output and upload were about 2GB. Things look pretty spiffy in the raw video captures.
You could also get a hdmi converter cable for your retro console, or a setup like I got with a few switches and a Retrotink Pro. My Retrotink outputs a 1080p signal via hdmi cable. Would go into this Morph 4K device perfectly. 😎
There is an analog board upcoming in Q3 for around $100 or so. Will still make the Morph 4K and analog board 1/2 the price of the TINK 4K. Since we're already in Q3, I think the analog add-on will be shipping very soon. Eager to see how it will perform.
The TINK 4k is a glorious device, for sure. It's a great thing to have in your arsenal. Fortunately, the Morph 4K can also do HDR at 4:4:4 color, which is crazy cool.
Seriously, i don’t see any differences except dimming when you switch. If you look at the Retrotink differences, it’s obvious. My guess is that your Morph don’t do 4:4:4 (RGB) chroma sub sampling. It makes a world of a difference. This is my guess.
It was something a buddy of mine used to say just to be funny. Like when people couldn't figure out how to turn something on, he'd tell them to push the O-N-O-F-F button. It just stuck. :)
The results in-person are super nice. RUclips loves to (understandably) introduce compression into videos to save space. Kind of cuts down some on what you'll see in the videos. The raw files were around 100GB and uncompressed. The uploaded file is about 2GB, for comparison.
I don't have a T4K, so can't speak to pixel-for-pixel comparisons and whatnot. However, the one thing I can conclusively speak to is the value proposition. The T4K is $750, and the Morph 4K is $275. Add-on boards will be around $100. So the Morph 4K and an analog board will be 1/2 the price of the T4K. Puts it all in the budget of us normal folk. :)
The value of the RT4K comes from the versatility of analog inputs, and also the masks and advanced scaling you can do. If you only care about newer consoles that take HDMI inputs the value of the Morph 4K is way better.
Eh… wayyy too experimental to trust fully especially with the price tag. It will not fix textures of the game in an upscale just the visual resolution.
Oh, yes. The T4K is $750. The Morph 4K is $275 and the add-ons will be around the $100 or so mark. Makes getting the Morph 4K and analog add-on about 1/2 the price of the T4K.
Funny that you mention it, because it was one of the systems I tested! I have the Pocked GITD and the dock and ran it through the Morph 4K. At least in my testing, it wasn't a major change with the Morph 4K introduced into the HDMI signal chain. The image coming out of the dock is already really sharp and coming from an FPGA device, so it kinda makes sense.
Glad you asked! Oh, the gradios plan I had. I was going to capture my wedding video from 1999 over my VCR that has HDMI output built in. However, the darn thing would not take in that tape or any other. Best laid plans of mice, you know? 🤣

Honestly your better off going with the mclassic + 4k gamer pro combo. I've seen and done comparable with you footage. And the change is more noticeable with mclassic/4k gamer vs morph or retrotink 4k.

@blainlocklair please please do a tutorial on how to convert mp4 videos/movies onto the psp
Every time you changed from 1080p to 4k we couldn't see the difference because you pulled up the menu instantly without giving us a second to see the difference 🤦♂️ 3 2 1 gone
Noted. Thanks for letting me know. Will make that adjustment for future videos.
I totally felt the same way.
Thanks for the shout at 7:43! It was a blast to mod, can't wait to see some Wii gameplay after the AVE-HDMI kit installation.
The difference is so subtle thats its practically unoticeable
Im early today! Love your videos, Keep up the amazing work Blaine!
Thanks so much! Glad to see you here, and I sure will. :)
This video convinces me that I do not need a scaler for Xbox360 and later consoles.
Very informative video btw thank you

Yeah I wonder if you just have to see it in person - i can never see any difference in any of the videos on youtube about any devices
Am I missing something? Where are the analog input connections on the device?
Timestamp 5:25 is your answer

Do you have a link to the same HDMI switcher shown at the end?
TBH I'd be more interested in it if I didn't already have a Retrotink 4K. That thing can add HDR on top of upscaling to 4K.

Just curious, why you say O.N. / O.F.F. instead of on/off?

@@blainelocklair That's cool. Keep saying it😀
Just need some additional binoculars to notice the difference

I went with it since it was that price. I remember when it used to be $400
@@blainelocklairwould be great if you get a t4k and do direct comparison

Is it cheaper with all the add ons than just getting the retrotink 4k
Oh, yes. The T4K is $750. The Morph 4K is $275 and the add-ons will be around the $100 or so mark. Makes getting the Morph 4K and analog add-on about 1/2 the price of the T4K.
Wonder if this works with the analogue pocket and dock.

What's it like with VHS footage?

Is this suppose to make graphics look better on retro consoles?
Yes. It can take in signals up to 1080p and upscale them to 4K 60fps, along with adding in filters like smoothing and scanlines, for example.
I have the morph 4k and when I plug in ps3 it recognizes the signal but I don’t get video just a black screen. Do I need an hdcp stripper?
Yes, you do.
Nice

I have that combo too, where it really shines is OG Xbox One and Standard PS4.
I just got that combo and looking to see if there is a better solution. This does not seem to be better. Ty for the comment.
Retrotink
Dude ups mclassic/4k gamer pro over RetroTINK 4K
😄😆😂🤣🤣
Whatever you’re smoking, I DEFINTELY want some…cuz it seems AMAZING.
